Despite knowing these scientific facts, we continue to act as if we are not fully awake to the reality of the threat to all life on earth. In this piece of literary criticism, I will look at some of Jori Graham's poetry to explore how poetic transformation of the facts about the climate crisis could contribute to our awakening to what is at stake and how her work could facilitate conversation between us about the psychological impacts that we experience. I will also refer briefly to Denise Levertov's writing on the concept of irremediable damage to the earth.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45341301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four international students studying in a university in London participated in five interactive bibliotherapy sessions. Each participant underwent an interview after the sessions, and the contents were transcribed and analysed through a thematic analysis. A total of 4 main themes and 11 subthemes were extracted. It was shown that international students, who were having difficulty in accessing psychological aid, joined the interactive bibliotherapy sessions with relative ease. Sessions provided them a space where they could lay aside their normal routine, and freely express themselves. It was also a space whereby participants were able to become aware of their stress, and had the opportunity to do some retrospection on their selves, all the while gaining flexibility. Lastly, the current research presented a model of interactive bibliotherapy for international students.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43624665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the developmental and transition phase of growing up, young students can face a lot of issues and problems related to the self and their surroundings. The participants of this research were post-graduate management students who suffered from a lack of self-management skills. A reading course/intervention based on Shrodes (1950) model of bibliotherapy was developed. Using developmental and didactic bibliotherapy based on CBT a short reading course was conducted with 138 students. Reflective writing and discussion activities were conducted along with group reading. The impact of the reading course/intervention was analyzed using descriptive research methods (paired sample t-test) and qualitative reading of the reflective writing. The intervention has been successful in bringing positive habit formation and attitude change in the students.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42249268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psychotic people generally have difficulty organizing their thoughts and expressing their internal worlds. Moreover, the therapists needed a different and creative way to create relationships and to have insights about the participants. We created a theme group that used the verbal-affective metaphoric instrument of literature. The use of literature leads to the dissipation of fear and suspicion and gradual familiarity in the relationship, and also to a strong therapeutic process and to the creation of a change. Additionally, the therapists were able to understand in a different perspective, the participants and their experience, but at the same time to be an observer from the side. The use of this instrument in therapy facilitated, the creation of a relationship, the ability to share insights and the beginning of a recovery process in a better and customized way.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48121691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current study, based on the earlier literature and public perception, assumed an increase in the sexually assertive content in the trending songs because of modernization. The study analyzed the content of 150 popular songs of English, Urdu, and Punjabi from 1970 to 2019 and revealed that the aforesaid assumption was quite valid until 2009. The study found a gradual increase in the frequency of sexually assertive content in English, Urdu, and Punjabi songs from 1970 to 2009. A strange shift in this trend was however observed from 2010 to 2019 whereby the frequency of sexually assertive content decreased. As the existing literature is silent in this regard, the current study opened a new gate of curiosity by sensitizing the researchers to explore the reasons of this decrease further.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44787434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Poetry can be used as a motivational tool for adult students, and as a means of understanding and expressing complex emotions and experiences. Despite a plethora of research on the effects of poetry on adults in treatment and rehabilitation centers, little research has been conducted in educational settings. This article reviews the literature on poetry and adults with histories of addiction or trauma and offers classroom considerations and writing exercises for the poetry workshop.","PeriodicalId":16967,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Poetry Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48318713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
