One classical soliition consists in tising,/or prediction the 5 ollowed reference frames in order to find the best possihle matching macroblock. However, even with the hest match. the variation of lriminunce which reflects noise still e.rists in the residue to code. Moreover, from an implementation point of view, there would be additional processing delaw and higher memow reqiiirements. To solve this problem, we propose to embed in the H.264/A VC encoder, a technique of motion detection hased on Markov Random Fields which relies on robrrst moving pi.rel segmentation and reduces the variation of the honinance thot more ojien results,from noise rather t hmf rom an actiial motion occurring between matching macrohlocks. This algorithm needs onlv 3 reference frames to detect real niotion beween matching marroblocks and it enables decreasing the bit rate while maintaining the quality of compressed sequence. These are due to material related problems, design problems, or due to process related damage. Testing strategies should be built around these possible causes and should be targeted at reducing overall costs of producing products. Current test strategies were appropriate when introduced. Changes brought about by automation, improvements in design automation, quality control and reliability should result in test strategies being rethought to help reduce overall manufacturing costs. 11. HISTORIC TEST PRINCIPLES When printed circuit boards were manually assembled, quality systems were designed lo inspect quality into products rather than ensure that quality was built inio products. The scenario was that products had components and materials inspected at goods inwards, and in an attempt to minimize repair costs testing was conducted at strategic places in the production process. This test philosophy, which is still in used today, is to test quality into products, rather than to verify functionality and to help align and calibrate products. Manut:dcturers of autometic test equipment (ATE) justify the expenditure of complex and expensive test syslems with early fault detection (i.e. tesling quality into a product). The wellknown logarithmic rule is used, where the cost of repairs increases by a factor often for every step in the manufacturing process during which the problem is not identified. It is accepted as a way of life that production yield will be less than perfect. Increased product complexity and the associated complex testing problems is the other reason that justifies the huge investments in test systems. When the manufacturing process was largely manual such lest strategies were appropriate. With the highly automated processes that are high repeatable, do test strategies devised for a predominantly manual production process still apply? 111. Embedded compiled C-code subroutines include modulation protocols, error correction and MPEG layer-2 perceptual audio coding. Rapid assessment of critical design related factors could be performed that include channel interference, multi-path reflection and a range of modulation-parameters. Software is PC compatible with both DAB system and transmission channel configurable using a bespoke graphical user interface, which facilitates changing on the fly modulation and transmission-path related parameters. Overall audio quality can also be assessed 1 . Index Terms — DAB, Matlab, Modulation, Simulation. I. I NTRODUCTION TO DAB IGITAL audio broadcasting (DAB) was developed in the early 1990’s by the European consortium Eureka 147 [1], mainly to replace the widely used analogue frequency modulation (FM) broadcasting system. The VHF band is a scarce resource in many parts of the world, so there was a need for a spectrally more efficient modulation method than FM. In DAB, this is achieved by multiplexing several programmes into a so-called ensemble with a bandwidth of 1.536 MHz, where the number of programmes per ensemble is flexible and depends on individual programme bandwidth requirements. Further, conventional analogue techniques do not provide satisfactory performance in a mobile environment, because they are highly affected by multi-path propagation and thus fading. In DAB, orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) has been chosen to overcome the effects of multi-path propagation, enabling the system to operate in so-called single-frequency networks (SFN). The modeling and processing of a DAB system is well suited for Simulink and Matlab. In particular, a segmentation algorithm that uses both motion and edge information is proposed. It applies the edge-linking approach to determine accurately the boundaries of objects and bidirectional motion estimation to track robustly the motion of objects and changes in shape. The design of the algorithm considers computational complexity. Since composition using segmented objects is further considered. A method of enlarging or shrinking objects for such a purpose is described and evaluated.
