Mateus Patrício, Dr. Everton Cavalcante, Dr. Valdeci Mestre","doi":"10.29327/256539.1.1-2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29327/256539.1.1-2","url":null,"abstract":"In the present work, a proposal for teaching about energy transformations is briefly presented, dealing with the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy using simple, low-cost and easy-to-purchase materials. The main objective is to demonstrate the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy using easily acquired materials for the implementation of experiment in high school. Therefore, we propose activities and techniques using high-brightness light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that emit blue and red light. When exposed to sunlight, they absorb this energy converting it into electrical energy that can be used to make some electronic devices work. These diodes have characteristics similar to photovoltaic cells, being formed by semiconductors and p-n junctions.
