Reid","doi":"10.2307/j.ctv13pk8rv.21","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2307/j.ctv13pk8rv.21","url":null,"abstract":"In May 1966, Dr. McHugh and Bill’s defense attorney, Gurbachan Singh, travel to Maswa, visit the scene of Peppy’s death, and, based on their survey of the area, prepare a detailed analysis of how Peppy’s injuries would likely have occurred. McHugh first notes the “omnipresent” wind in the area, which he had experienced on previous visits to Maswa. He thinks the wind’s noise level might have been loud enough to keep Bill from hearing Peppy’s fall. With Singh standing in Peppy’s place, behind Bill and to the right (according to Byron Georgiadis, there was insufficient room on the rock for them to stand side by side), and McHugh in the place where Bill stood, as described by Bill, McHugh assesses whether Bill would see Peppy fall. The documents produced from this research will become vital as the defense prepares its case.","PeriodicalId":167172,"journal":{"name":"Every Hill a Burial Place","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115044239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their time at Syracuse is discussed, especially the content of the training program. Bill was scheduled for a post in Malawi, so he needed a transfer to allow the marriage and joint posting in Tanzania. Peppy’s mother opposed the marriage at first; she was appalled at the quick decision to wed. She relented and pulled everything together for a wedding, and they were married a few days before leaving for Africa. Peppy’s sister and Peppy’s friends describe their reaction on their first and only meeting with Bill before the couple left for Africa: “We hardly knew him.”","PeriodicalId":167172,"journal":{"name":"Every Hill a Burial Place","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129701793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
