Pigs are moderately resistant to the infection; however, succumb to infection upon ingestion of heavily contaminated feed stuffs with Bacillus anthracis. In India, anthrax outbreaks occurring in domestic as well as wild animals have been reported from several states especially in Southern and Eastern regions. Globally as well as nationally, reports on anthrax incidences in pig rearing regions are limited. Nevertheless, with the advent of intensified integrated livestock farming practices at rural and peri-urban areas, there is a threat of zoonotic disease transmission to humans from animals in the lapse of bio-security measures at farm level. The bacterial biofilm-based oral vaccine development is an innovative technique. Biofilm-based vaccines have very good gastrointestinal stability in comparison with vaccines from conventional free cells (whole bacterial cell) of bacteria. Biofilms are produced by growing bacteria in a nutrient depleted condition providing a substrate for its attachment. The biofilm thus produced, inactivated and delivered orally to various fish species have demonstrated good humoral and protective response than with free cell-based vaccines. The studies have been reported from herbivore carps, omnivore catfish, and carnivore murrel. The nucleotide and phylogenetic analysis were done to understand the genetic relationship of DPV Tamil Nadu isolates and Ranipet vaccine strain of plague virus with other DPV strains prevalent in the world. The local field isolates and vaccine strain showed 98% and 96% nucleotide homology with other DPV strains available in the GenBank. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that both field isolates and vaccine were close to China and Germany strains. The virulence is associated with attaching and effacing lesions encoded by eaeA gene which is considered as marker for EPEC and EHEC. Diagnosis of EPEC and/or EHEC is traditionally done by conventional PCR assay, which sometimes provide false-negative result and also costly as well as difficult to perform at field level. A novel isothermal polymerase spiral reaction (PSR) is developed for detection of eaeA gene in E. coli isolated from diarrhoeic pig, cattle, sheep and goat. Samples were collected from diarrhoeic animals for isolation and identification of the E. coli. eaeA gene was detected by conventional PCR and PSR assays. A total of 39 isolates were recorded positive for eaeA gene by conventional PCR, whereas 52 isolates were recorded positive for eaeA gene by PSR assay. PSR technique was 100 times more sensitive than conventional PCR. PSR techniques was found to be more sensitive, specific, cost effective, user friendly and reliable technique over conventional PCR. A total of 92 clinical samples (milk, nasal swab, wound swab) from cattle (n = 36), goat (n = 29) and dog (n = 27) of West Bengal, India were examined by conventional and molecular methods for S. aureus. Screening for methicillin resistance was determined phenotypically by cefoxitin disc diffusion and genotypically by mecA PCR. A total of 41 isolates of S. aureus from cattle (n = 20), goat (n = 13) and dog (n = 8) were confirmed by S. aureusspecific thermonuclease (nuc) gene polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Out of 41, two (4.88%) isolates, one each of cattle and goat, were found to be methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Antimicrobial susceptibility of all the 41 isolates of S. aureus was determined in Bauer-Kirby disc diffusion tests. They were found to be highly sensitive to amikacin (95.12%), linezolid (100%), vancomycin (100%) and highly resistant to ampicillin (39.02%) followed by tetracycline (24.39%), azithromycin (17.07%), ciprofloxacin (17.07%) and sparfloxacin (17.07%). The study was conducted at the clinical services complex of SKUAST Kashmir from 1998–2002.Highest incidence was observed in the year 2000 (10.3%) and lowest incidence in the year 2002 (5.98%). The incidence was higher in cows followed by goat and sheep. Most of the cases were observed in the months of July, August and September with less no of cases in October, November and December. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from clinical samples of different animal species. Of the 43 samples tested, four revealed presence of P. aeruginosa with an overall prevalence of 9.30% with 3.03% in bovines and 22.22% in canines clinical cases. In antimicrobial susceptibility testing, isolates exhibited the highest resistance against third generation cephalosporins with 100% resistance to ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime and ceftazidime-tazobactam while half of the isolates showed resistance for polymixin B and 75% were resistant to peperacillin.
