The main challenges in the design of such systems are the limited resources (like transmission power, scarce frequency bandwidth and limited implementation complexity) and the impairments of the wireless channels which includes noise, interference, and fading effects. Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems is one of the most promising wireless technologies that can achieve above requirements. Inter-symbol interference (ISI) is still a major concern even in MIMO systems. It degrades the system performance significantly in frequency selective channels. To mitigate ISI, equalization techniques are employed on receiver side. In this paper, Bit error rate (BER) performance improvements of MIMO systems using various equalization techniques like Zero-forcing (ZF), Minimum mean square error (MMSE), ZF-Successive interference cancellation (ZF-SIC), MMSE-SIC, Maximum likelihood (ML) and Sphere decoder (SD) are shown and compared. BER analysis is done under Rayleigh frequency flat and selective as well as under Rician frequency flat channels.","PeriodicalId":166718,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132274067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the inadequacies of conventional forest fire monitoring on real time detection, the wireless sensor network technique for forest fire detection was introduced. In this paper, we have proposed a framework for forest fire detection and monitoring as an application area of wireless sensor networks. Our systems gather temperature from every points of forest and transmit it to control center speedily. Our framework includes proposals for the wireless sensor network architecture and communication protocols to detect the fire threats quickly. It also conceives the consumption of energy by the sensor nodes and the physical conditions that may hinder the activity of the network. When it consumes energy from nature then it provides fast reaction to forest fires. This framework can provide fast reaction to forest fires together with efficient energy consumption. In this paper we have presented an algorithm for controlling forest fire and a sleep-awake cycle to increase lifetime of sensor network.","PeriodicalId":166718,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134203423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This hole is of great concern when WSN is used in surveillance applications as Quality-of-Service (QoS) parameters may not be satisfied in some parts of the network. Detection and repair of these holes through redeployment of nodes is an important research challenge in WSN. In this paper, two types of node failures, namely self and intentional, are modeled with the help of random and Gaussian distribution respectively. The QoS parameters coverage and connectivity are computed using iso-sensing technique and neighbor node information respectively. Based on these parameters we perform redeployment within the budget constraints. The redeployment site is selected based on the maximum gain and a tour is planned using Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) approach. The sensor redeployment scheme is integrated with network monitoring which results in an efficient network. Simulation results obtained with different network configurations validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":166718,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133061241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This would lead to development of new methods and tools for the performance evaluation of the system to meet the offerings and requirements. However, due to many factors, such as the heterogeneity of such systems, solving efficiently such a problem is becoming a challenging task. In this paper, we address the problem of scheduling directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) on heterogeneous platforms composed of a set of processors grouped in a cluster of clusters (Multi-Clusters). Our main objective here is to develop a new DAG scheduling algorithm taking into account several characteristics of the target platform, including the heterogeneity of both computing powers of processors and communication links. Simulation results, based on both randomly generated graphs and platforms and real configuration based generated platforms, show that the proposed algorithm provides interesting performances and performs better than some well-known existing scheduling algorithms.","PeriodicalId":166718,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127408842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These issues can result in bottleneck and restrict the behavior of parallel program in attaining an aforesaid speedup as suggested by Amdahl Gene. The most problematic issue that crops up is the distribution of workload in both the categories of parallel system viz. homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. This situation demands an effective load balancing strategy to be in place in order to ensure a uniform distribution of load across the board. The scheduling `m' jobs to `n' resources with the objective to optimize the QoS parameters while balancing the load has been proven to be NP-hard problem. Therefore, a heuristic approach can be used to design an effective load balancing strategy. In this paper, a centralized dynamic load balancing strategy using adaptive thresholds has been proposed for a parallel system consisting of multiprocessors. The scheduler continuously monitors the load on the system and takes corrective measures as the load changes. The threshold values considered are adaptive in nature and are readjusted to suite the changing load on the system. Therefore, the scheduler always ensures a uniform distribution of the load on the processing elements with dynamic load environment.","PeriodicalId":166718,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127711392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
