Prakash","doi":"10.18231/j.ijoas.2022.009","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18231/j.ijoas.2022.009","url":null,"abstract":"The pathophysiology of Chronic Rhino-Sinusitis with Nasal Polyposis (CRSwNP) showed distinct ethnic and geographic differences whereas the Western Caucasian population revealed Th2 eosinophilic inflammation in contrary to the Asian Mongolian population with Th1-Th17 non-eosinophilic inflammatory pattern. Prospective Observational study was undertaken from December 2019 to December 2021 on 50 patients who were diagnosed to have sinonasal polyposis. The collected polyp tissue was sent to the histopathological department for further microscopic evaluation. The types of inflammatory cell infiltrate studied in the tissue specimens obtained during surgery included lymphocytes, eosinophils, neutrophils, mast cells, and plasma cells. The age of patients ranged from 11 to 70 years with a mean age of 31.80±17.69 years. The male to female ratio was 1.3:1. The 62% of patients showed the predominance of eosinophil which was of grade III and grade IV category, Lymphocyte infiltrate of grades III and IV was present in 46% of cases, Mast cell was 30% and 10% of grade III and Grade IV respectively, and the Neutrophils were found only in 22% and 105 of cases of grade III & Grade IV, respectively which was the least of all inflammatory cells found in polyp tissue. Sharma","doi":"10.18231/j.ijoas.2022.010","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18231/j.ijoas.2022.010","url":null,"abstract":"Fibrous dysplasia is a benign tumor of bone, uncommonly affecting the maxilla, congenital, recurrent character and etiology unknown, caused by a bone modeling disorder in which normal bone is replaced by immature fibrous tissue. The lesion may involve one or more bones being the maxilla the facial bone more affected. We report a case of monostotic variety fibrous dysplasia in a male patient complaining of progressive swelling in rt maxilla that compress the inferior orbital bone and finally produce significant loss of vision. In this case, Computed Tomography (CT) was the main radiographic examination to demonstrate the extension and radiodensity that the lesion assumes in the craniofacial bones, being therefore of fundamental importance in the surgical planning and in the longitudinal follow-up of the operated patient. The diagnosis was confirmed by anatopathology and the treatment of choice was removal of the tumor [total maxillectomy in this case followed by reconstruction of palate and defect. This condition is characterized by cutaneous manifestation mainly hyperkeratosis of skin and mucosae and hypertrophy of nails. In this condition, almost 50% of the patients will have oral leukokeratosis. The case report here is of a 15 years old girl, presented with dystrophic, thickened fingernails and toenails with subungual hyperkeratosis, palmoplantar keratoderma, hyperkeratotic plaques in buccal mucosae. Histological examination shows acanthosis, parakeratosis and ballooning of epithelial cells, these features were consistent leukokeratosis, and has been diagnosed as Pachyonychia Congenita type 1. The progressive accumulation of keratin debris can lead to the gentle erosion and widening of the canal eventually. Whereas, Cholesteatoma also known as active squamosal chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a benign keratinizing epithelialized cystic structure found in the middle ear and mastoid. It can cause destruction of the local structures – ossicular chain and otic capsule, thereby leading to complications such as hearing loss, vestibular dysfunction, facial paralysis and intracranial disease or infection. Both these entities may present with severe otalgia and conductive hearing loss with radiological evidence of bony erosions. The similarity in clinical presentation can cause confusion between these two conditions. We present a case of keratosis obturans that was misdiagnosed as active squamosal CSOM. This programmed has complete battery of training and testing on pure tones from 125 Hz to 10,000 Hz and environmental sounds numbering 79. The present study aimed to see the efficacy of cochlear habilitator in cochlear implant children. A total 10 cochlear implant children under which 4-female and, 6-male participants with in the age range of 3-7 years participated in this study with normal IQ and no history of any health problems. The cochlear habilitator (software) was installed in a laptop connected with two loudspeakers, which are configured with the cochlear habilitator (software) with azimuth angle of 180 degree. The 10 cochlear implant participants were selected based on the subject selection criteria, from the speech and hearing clinic and auditory training was provided for 28 days/sessions. The data was analyzed using SPSS software (version 17.0). T test values shows there is a significant difference in all tasks individually and on overall performance. The mean scores of Post therapy test is higher than the pre-therapy test.
