Literature has shown a systolic dysfunction of about 12.7% among the Framingham Offspring cohort. Using clinical and echocardiographic data, we aimed to compare the characteristics of left ventricular dysfunction and associated risk factors of HF in Black patients with and without gout. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of electronic medical record data of gout patients was compared to age, sex, and race matched cohort of the non-gout patients. Clinical parameters and 2D echocardiograms were reviewed for the patients with gout and heart failure. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular wall motion and size abnormalities, and diastolic dysfunction was evaluated. HF patients with gout were further categorized based on LVEF % into three groups: <40%, 41–55% and >55%. Descriptive statistics using SPSS version 29 was applied; a logistic regression model was used to assess the strength of association between HF and cardiovascular risk factors. Results: The gout population of 471 patients with a mean age of 63.7 ± 0.53 years, 89% being Black, and 63% men were compared to an age, sex, race matched non-gout cohort. From 29 August to 2 September 2022, the Materials Research Society of Serbia (MRSSerbia) and the International Institute for the Science of Sintering organized the two conferences jointly, in the town in which they had been inaugurally held: Herceg-Novi, Montenegro. The joint conference attracted around 200 participants, 20 of which were plenary speakers, while the rest were assigned regular oral or poster presentations. The participants came from 25 different countries of the world, the most represented among which were Serbia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Poland, and the United States. Outside of the four plenary sessions at YUCOMAT and two at the WRTCS, the conference was divided to five symposia: (i) advanced methods in synthesis and processing of materials; (ii) advanced materials for high-technology applications; (iii) nanostructured materials; (iv) eco-materials and eco-technologies; and (v) biomaterials. Here, one of this year’s plenary lecturers at YUCOMAT and a member of the International Advisory Board for the MRS-Serbia gives a formally solicited and unbiased view of the conference, discussing its successful aspects and aspects worth revisiting, alongside providing a few historical remarks.","PeriodicalId":166036,"journal":{"name":"Stand Alone Papers 2022","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115412358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the farming of animals for food raises complex questions regarding livestock diseases and their potential impacts on both human health and national and international export trade markets. Early disease detection in livestock allows for targeted treatments, decreasing the antibiotics use, and for advancements in precision veterinary medicine. MicroRNA (miRNA)-driven signaling cascades play a crucial role in the context of farm animal disease diagnostics and prediction, and their proper understanding remains a challenge. Many studies have shown a link between circulating miRNAs and diseases in livestock, including paratuberculosis, foot and mouth disease, and various metabolic diseases. Important information regarding the stage, pathogenesis, and prognosis of a disease may therefore be acquired through the detection and analysis of a small number of miRNAs. Currently, there are no on-farm sensing tools available to detect miRNAs from the bodily fluids of livestock. This review is aimed at demonstrating that circulating miRNAs are powerful biomarkers of disease in livestock and at describing the potential of sensor technologies for their rapid detection. I provide an overview of the recent developments of miRNA sensing and the current bottlenecks in the realization of the sensors for detecting miRNAs as the target analytes for the identification of various livestock diseases. Due to the nascent stages of this research, the exploitation of miRNA as a biomarker opens up ways to move from reactive to predictive possibilities in disease detection via sensor platforms in modern digital livestock farming.","PeriodicalId":166036,"journal":{"name":"Stand Alone Papers 2022","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132775389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its effects on health and legal restrictions, BPA is increasingly replaced by other bisphenols such as Bisphenol S (BPS). In this study, BPA and 4 alternatives including BPS, Bisphenol F (BPF), Bisphenol B (BPB), and Bisphenol AF (BPAF) were analyzed in thermal paper cash receipts using a sensitive LC-MS/MS method. The cash receipts contained almost only BPA and BPS, whereas BPA was found in 67.5% of the samples at a concentration ranging from 0.83% to 1.71%. BPS was detected at lower concentrations than BPA, found in 25% of samples at a concentration ranging from 0.61% to 0.96%. Both of the substances exceeded the EU limit in the thermal receipt paper of 0.02% per weight. No other analogues were detected from any of the samples analyzed here. As the levels identified are higher than the legal limits of the EU regulations, we should develop regulatory rules and restrictions on the use of bisphenols in cash receipts in Bangladesh.","PeriodicalId":166036,"journal":{"name":"Stand Alone Papers 2022","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132431227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract: The First Sustainable Globe Conference 2021 was held virtually from 8 to 10 September 2021. The partner organizers were Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg from Germany, RootsGoods Private Limited from India, and the Vriksha Foundation from Nepal. The theme of the conference was sustainability for climate action. The focus topics of the theme were education, agriculture (nutrition), urban and rural development, and natural and cultural resources management. Abstracts were submitted from 20 universities in 13 countries. In total, 69 registrants attended the conference, and 29 papers were presented, of which 4 were poster presentations along with 10 invited and keynote speakers. The presentations were either in English or Spanish (with English subtitles and/or live translation). The conference was divided into two plenary sessions—first, education; and second, natural and cultural resources, urban and rural development, and agriculture. In the education session, most of the discussion was related to environmental education to improve environmental literacy in all age groups. The project-based education, along with formal and informal teaching and educational methodologies, was discussed. For the second plenary session, the discussion was mixed with protecting natural and cultural resources by promoting scientific applications and public participation in citizen science. However, the final remark was guided by one of the keynote speakers, who highlighted the importance of spirituality in sustainability, and how the discussion of spirituality is lacking in the public discourse on sustainability. Therefore, the conference aimed to develop future themes regarding sustainability by not missing the critical aspect of spirituality. The context of spirituality here was defined as approaching problems as not being separate from our existence but, rather, a part of our existence and, thus, in addition to applying scientific, technical, didactics, and engineering solutions, also applying attitudes, values, and beliefs toward the problem matter. To elaborate on these remarks, this issue presents the abstracts of the presented papers in the conference, while the keynotes and entire session can be revisited on the YouTube channel of RootsGoods Private Limited. distinc-tion in the orientation of education for sustainable development between an understanding of education for sustainable behavior (ESD I), or education for a reflected awareness of the value of sustainability (ESD II). Teachers are of central importance in the implementation of education for sustainable development. In particular, their understanding of education and sustainability is essential for their pedagogical practice. With regard to the implementation of ESD, one can ask how teachers deal with the normativity of sustainability or with the pedagogical antinomies that are implemented in the conce","PeriodicalId":166036,"journal":{"name":"Stand Alone Papers 2022","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121614805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
