These new technologies require new communication systems, such as delay tolerant networks (DTN). However, establishing communications is not enough. Networks must allow data to be exchanged and these data must be understood by the entities that receive them. Although a lot of DTN routing protocol has been proposed for DTN networks, but with the emergence of new technological applications such as drones, the Internet of Things, etc., the DTN routing protocol is still in use. It is desirable to develop a feasible, reliable and robust protocol for this new range of applications. In this work, we will present a DTN protocol for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121179919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Point of generation (IoT sensors), 2. Point of storage, 3. Point of usage (IoT actuators). Point 2 can be adequately addressed by Blockchain that offers remarkable immutability by storing data securely and transparently in a distributed setting, making it tamper-proof while in storage. However, blockchain alone cannot root out all the data security impediments in an IoT network as Points 1 and 3 still needs to be resolved. In this paper, we propose a novel Secure Element and Blockchain based stratagem called SEBS to effectively secure all 3 Points at once, thereby realizing light, holistic, efficient IoT data security in true sense. Further, we elaborate on SEBS implementation in a generic IoT network scenario and show how it improves the performance of critical security operations by as much as 31 times. Next, we address a niche problem by proposing a novel SEOVA or SE based offline verification algorithm to verify if the data received through intermediary really belongs to the blockchain.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"256 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134390282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LoRaWAN, SigFox, and NB-IoT are the three competing LPWAN technologies. On the other hand, Smart Water Grid (SWG) is an emerging paradigm that promises to over come issues such as pipes leaks encountered by current water infrastructure by deploying smart devices into the water infrastructure for monitoring purposes. This paper firstly explores the physical and communication features of the above LPWAN technologies and provides a comprehensive comparison between them as well as their suitability for the Smart Water Grid (SWG) use case. The important aspect of SWG is to connect devices such as smart water meters and other tiny devices like sensors installed into the water pipelines for the system monitoring purpose. We consider Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) also called Smart Water Metering when dealing with the water grid, which is the main application of SWG and we study the scalability of LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, and SigFox in such application. Under NS3, the simulation results show that NB-IoT provides the best scalability compared to LoRaWAN and SigFox and thus is able to support a huge number of devices with a low packet error rate.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"191 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134311669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional mechanisms for falsification detection generally use encryption with a completely secure key. Therefore, they cannot effectively be applied in such a situation in which the key is not secure and the reliability of the data is completely lost. To protect the reliability of wireless sensor networks without depending a secure key, we propose a mechanism that detects malicious nodes through the cooperation of legitimate (hereafter, proper) nodes and logically isolates the detected malicious nodes through inter-node vote from wireless sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115949848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voting-based consensus is adequate to networks where all nodes are known, although it requires a high amount of exchanged messages, proportional to the number of participant nodes. In this paper, we propose a strategy for applying Quality of Service (QoS) techniques to ensure the reliable operation of voting-based consensus mechanisms. The proposed strategy is based on Software Defined Networking (SDN) and aims at reducing the time for the termination of the consensus protocols. The proposal evaluation leans on an emulated environment, using Mininet, where we run the Raft and BFT-SMaRt consensus mechanisms. Results show that the proposal ensures the termination of the protocols in a reduced time and the reduction of the control load for the election of leaders since we assure a minimum quality of service on the throughput rate for the consensus network flows. The proposed strategy enhances up to 100% of the consensus terminations on Raft and, for BFT-SMaRt, ensured the operation even in contention scenarios where the consensus was previously unfeasible. Results also show 80% reduction in the exchanged messages for achieving consensus.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123297581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, we emphasis on the deployment of the LEO satellite for IoT and on the correlation between LoRaWAN and LEO satellites networks. We first propose an IoT architecture based heterogeneous space and terrestrial integrated network. Then a novel architecture for LEO satellites remote monitoring based on the use of LoRaWAN modules for data plane and Software-Defined Networking for the control plane was suggested. Finally, some challenging open issues related to the use of SDN controllers in space are revealed.","PeriodicalId":165839,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121094040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
