They are usually located in popliteal area. Bicipital cyst is uncommon and has been described in systemic onset of JIA during an inflammatory attack. We describe the presentation and clinical course of bicipital synovial cyst occurring in patient with polyarticular subtype of JIA. In our knowledge, it’s the first case reported. Case presentation: Our patient had an active disease with high level of biological inflammation. After ruling out the infectious origin of the cyst, the diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasonography revealing a liquid nature of the formation and magnetic resonance imaging showing the continuity between the shoulder’s joint effusion and the cyst. A complete resolution was obtained 4 weeks after control inflammation using high dose of anti inflammatory drugs (prednisone 1mg/kg/d, indomethacin 3 mg/kg/d). Conclusion: Bicipital cyst is an unusual condition of JIA, extremely rare in polyarticular form. His etiology remains poorly understood. Our Patient had a high level of biological inflammation as in systemic subtype. The diagnosis is confirmed by ultrasonography. Magnetic resonance imaging may be helpful in case of doubt. The treatment is no specific and based on the control of the disease activity. Even though bicipital cyst is rare manifestation of JIA, it should be considered as a complication of active disease related to inflammatory phenomena. *Correspondence to: Bouayed Kenza, Department of Pediatric Rheumatology, A. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine a possible correlation between the intraoperative blood loss and the duration of the intensive care unit treatment, and the overall hospital stay. Patients and Methods: This study presents a retrospective analysis of 253 patients treated in our spine surgical ward in 2018. To analyse a possible correlation the tests of Pearson’s, Spearman rho’s and Kendall-Tau-b’s were used. Results: The intraoperative blood loss showed a significant correlation towards the duration on the intensive care unit (ICU) in both Spearman’s rho and Kendall Tau-b’s. Analysis of the correlation between intraoperative blood loss and overall length of hospital stay using Pearson’s showed a direct correlation with a correlation coefficient of 0.155. Lewis, Choudhury Kn, Sadiq Bu","doi":"10.15761/ROM.1000162","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15761/ROM.1000162","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is the most common chronic degenerative joint diseases affecting the quality of life of patients. Pain and loss of function are the main clinical features that lead to treatment. For middle-aged and older patients with earlier stages of OA, conservative nonsurgical interventions have been proposed to treat the painful joint. More recently, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a biological therapy, has become a treatment option to improve the status of the joint for patients with OA. The present study evaluated the clinical outcome of photoactivated platelet–rich plasma (PA-PRP) in patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis. Methods: A total of 232 patients with knee osteoarthritis, aged between 40-70 years were enrolled and treated in the present study and intervention for twelve months. The patients fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria for knee OA. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities OA index (WOMAC) Questionnaires were used for outcome measurement. Results were evaluated after 12 months of intervention. Results: Female and male patients were 66.8% and 33.2% respectively. Mean age and SD of the patients were 55.69 (± 9.09) and 56.19 (± 9.09) respectively. The mean (SD) score of pain, stiffness and physical function during the 1st visit before treatment were 6.74 (± 3.00), 2.16 (± 1.85) and 22.30 (± 9.17) and after showed 2.44(± 1.66), 0.60 (± 0.74) and 8.84 (± 4.20) respectively. The total mean WOMAC scores during the first visit and after treatment were 31.21 (± 12.19) and 11.82 (± 5.65) respectively. The total score of reduction was statistically significant after treatment (p=0.00). The principal findings of the study were that the mean WOMAC score reduced and there was improved pain, stiffness and functional capacity of patients with knee OA. Conclusion: In conclusion, treatment with PA-PRP for patients with knee osteoarthritis produced beneficial effects in terms of clinical outcomes. These results suggested that PA-PRP might be a valuable therapeutic agent for knee osteoarthritis in Bangladesh. *Correspondence to: Choudhury KN, National Centre for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Disease, Bangladesh, Tel: 8801711359459; E-mail: c.kamrun2014@gmail.com","PeriodicalId":165718,"journal":{"name":"Rheumatology and Orthopedic Medicine","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131132886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: We retrospectively revised the medical record of a cohort of BD patients admitted to the first affiliated university hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 2005 and March 2017. Demographic information, gastrointestinal symptoms and extra-intestinal manifestations, laboratory findings, disease activity index (DAIBD), imaging characteristics and managements were documented. Results: Records of 1648 Behcet’s disease cases were reviewed, of which, 187 cases were diagnosed of intestinal BD. Intestinal BD was more commonly found in male (73.3%) and male showed a significantly higher rate of gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Higher frequency of eye involvements and musculoskeletal involvements, less skin lesions were noted in the intestinal BD group. Abdominal pain and abdominal distension were the most common symptoms observed. Ileal/Ileocecal region was the most commonly affected under endoscopy. Mesenteric vessel lesions were not frequently detected but associated with poor prognosis. Most intestinal BD cases could be controlled with corticosteroid and immunosuppressors. CTX showed longer recurrence duration than AZA or MTX as maintenance therapy. Conclusion: Intestinal Behcet’s diseases could be difficult to diagnosis and associated with severe complications. Male is more commonly involved and had higher rate of severe complications. Mesenteric vessel lesions were not frequently detected but associated with poor prognosis. Corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and TNF blockers were effective for most patients. As maintenance therapy, CTX was more effective than AZA or MTX. *Correspondence to: Fan Lian, Department of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China, Tel: 008613922263595; E-mail: lianfan_l@hotmail.com","PeriodicalId":165718,"journal":{"name":"Rheumatology and Orthopedic Medicine","volume":"139 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131746634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
