This property also makes it highly reactive and therefore degradation is unavoidable in the presence of reactive species. Polymers have been used for encapsulation purposes as micelles vesicles or gels.11–19 A water-soluble polymer, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been investigated as one of the polymeric materials for encapsulation. In cosmetic formulations, PVA is used as emulsion stabilizer, forming protective films, viscosity increasing agent, or a binder. This study used PVA to encapsulate Vitamin C in an attempt to slow down the rate of degradation and therefore preserve the bioactivity of Vitamin C. PVA of varying molecular weights and concentrations were used and the PVA-Vitamin C solutions were subjected to different temperature over seven days. UV and NMR analyses were performed to support the study. Abrasion resistance and slake durability are the important characteristics of marbles. The prediction of these marbles properties will be useful from indirect methods especially for preliminary studies. In this study, the predictability of the Bohme abrasion resistance (BA) and the slake durability (SDI) of marbles were investigated from the indirect methods such as point load index (IS50), Shore hardness index (SHI), impact strength index (ISI), and ultrasonic velocity (Vp). The evaluation of the test results showed that the SDI were correlated well to the Vp, and moderately correlated to the IS50. But, the SDI was correlated weakly to both the ISI and SHI values. On the other hand, all indirect tests values were strongly or very strongly correlated to the BA values. Some multiple regression equations were also derived for the estimation of the SDI and the BA. It can be concluded that the SDI of the tested and similar marbles can be predicted from the Vp, and IS50 values. The correlations between the SDI and both SHI and ISI values should be further investigated. Positron annihilation γ-ray spectroscopy coupled with a positron beam was utilized to examine the depth profiles of the two membranes. The photocatalytic activities of the membranes were evaluated by the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) aqueous solution under the irradiation of Xe lamp. UV-Vis spectroscopy was applied to study the UV transmission through the polysulfone layer. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to detect the photo-generated charges by the covered membrane during the irradiation.
