While not being a particularly young field, it has recently attracted a lot of attention by several major discoveries and unprecedented observation campaigns covering the entity of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as observations of cosmic rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves. The exploration of synergies is in full steam and requires close cooperation between different instruments. Here I give an overview over the subject of multi-messenger astronomy and its virtues compared to classical \"single messenger\" observations, present the recent break throughs of the field, and discuss some of its organisational and technical challenges.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121853771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The muon trigger in the ATLAS experiment consists of a hardware-based first level trigger, and a succeeding software-based trigger. In order to handle the high luminosity in Run-2, several upgrades have been implemented to reduce trigger rate, while keeping a high efficiency. These improvements have been done by coincidence of hits in the muon spectrometer and the calorimeter, optimisation of muon isolation, and better determination of transverse momentum. An overview of the muon trigger in ATLAS with the recent improvements is presented. Also performance of the muon trigger in Run-2 and an outlook for upgrades planned for Run-3 are presented.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131358269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, a new timing layer with hermetic coverage up to a pseudo-rapidity of |$eta$|$=$3 will measure minimum ionizing particles with a time resolution of 30 ps. This MIP Timing Detector will consist of a central barrel region based on LYSO:Ce crystals read out with SiPMs and two end-caps instrumented with radiation-tolerant Low Gain Avalanche Detectors. The precision time information from the MTD will reduce the effects of the high levels of pile-up expected at the HL-LHC and will bring new and unique capabilities to the CMS detector. The time information assigned to each track will enable the use of 4D reconstruction algorithms and will further discriminate interaction vertices within the same bunch crossing to recover the track purity of vertices in current LHC conditions. For instance, in the analysis of di-Higgs boson production, a timing resolution of 30-40 ps is expected to improve the effective luminosity by about 25% through gains in b-tagging and isolation efficiency. We present motivations for precision timing at the HL-LHC and overview the MTD design, while also highlighting specific physics studies benefiting from the improved timing information.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125450427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter, with granularity 2 to 3 orders of magnitude above existing devices, have been developed during the last 15 years by the CALICE collaboration and are now approaching maturity. The state-of-the-art and the remaining challenges will be presented for all the investigated readouts: silicon diodes and scintillator for a tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter, gaseous with semi-digital readout and scintillator with SiPM readout for a hadronic one. We will describe the commissioning, including beam tests, of large scale technological prototypes of a silicon tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter and hadron calorimeters featuring either a gaseous medium or scintillator with SiPM as an active material. Where applicable, raw performances of calorimeter such as energy resolution and linearity will be presented but also studies exploiting the distinct features of granular calorimeters regarding pattern recognition. Beyond these prototypes, the design of experiments addressing the requirements and potential of imaging calorimetry will be commented on.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125015610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first one cite{bhattacharyya_freezing-dark_2018}, we extend the standard model (SM) of particle physics by an extra $U(1)$ gauge group under which all the SM particles are neutral. We then consider DM candidates interacting only with the new spin-1 gauge boson, a heavy $Z^prime$. We assume the presence of heavy beyond the SM fermions charged under both extra $U(1)$ and SM $SU(3)_c$, allowing for a feeble connection between DM and gluons. In the second scenario cite{bernal_spin-2_2018}, we assume that the interaction between DM and SM particles are only mediated by gravitons and massive spin-2 fields, being therefore suppressed by the Planck and some intermediate scales, respectively. In both models, we show that the SM particles are able to produce the right amount of DM candidates via freeze-in at most in the early stages of the radiation era, for DM mass in the range $10^{-3}-10^{14}$ GeV. We have shown that if heavy mediators were produced on-shell within a period of entropy production in the early universe, as in the post-inflationary reheating, the DM relic density may be enhanced by many orders of magnitude relative to the usual instantaneous reheating approximation.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123207628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The detector measures the ¯ ν -spectrum by the IBD method from an industrial nuclear reactor (3.1 GW th , KNNP, Rusia) at distances 10.7-12.7 m from the core using a mobile platform. The search for sterile neutrino oscillations is carried out through the analysis of the bin-per-bin ratios of the positron energy spectra collected at different distances from the reactor. This relative method is free from systematic errors associated with the calculation of the reactor antineutrino spectra and detector efficiency. The new results of the DANSS experiment are presented here based on more than 2.1 million events collected in 2016-2019 (2.4-fold increase over published data [ 1]). With the current full data set we do not have a statistically significant sign of the sterile neutrino oscillations excluding further the large and interesting portion of the 3 ν + 1 ν model phase space. The DANSS’s abilities to measure nuclear fuel composition and to monitor reactor power at high precision (with 1.5/0.5% statistical/systematical uncertainties reached in 2 days of exposure) in long-term scale (during 17 months) have been also undoubtedly demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":163721,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of XXIX International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies — PoS(LeptonPhoton2019)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128846667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
