Sexual harassment experienced by male employees has been easily overlooked by the public. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the effects of sexual harassment perceived by male hotel employees and its effects on their individual mental, emotional, and work outcomes. Methods : In this study, a qualitative survey was administered to male hotel employees over 20 years old regarding their experiences with sexual harassment. The reliability and validity of variables were verified through regression, and confirmatory factor analyses on the derived attributes and variables verified in previous studies. Results : The male hotel staff in this study reported negative effects of verbal, physical, visual, and psychological sexual harassment on their self-rated mental health (SRMH), whereas high SRMH positively affected the organization by increasing organizational citizenship behavior and self-efficacy and lowering turnover intention. The negative emotional experience of sexual harassment at work increased emotional violation, decreased organizational citizenship behavior and self-efficacy, and increased turnover intention. Conclusions : The seriousness of sexual harassment against men in the workplace has easily been overlooked, however, the findings here confirm that it is a severe crime for both male and female victims and has serious adverse effects on both individuals and workplaces. Consequently, hotel owners, leaders, managers, and other stakeholders are urged to acknowledge rather than overlook male sexual harassment in the workplace and take appropriate measures to eliminate such emotional boundary violations as harassment.","PeriodicalId":16360,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men's Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42426432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Factors such as the type of terrain and the technical difficulty of the course affect the load in orienteering. In order to plan sports training regimes and recreational activities, it is crucial to know about the internal and external loads of the actions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the sex differences in internal loads (heart rate) and external loads (distance covered at specific speeds) of the activities in orienteering. Methods : This study included 9 women with a mean age of 16.00 ± 0.83 years and 11 men with a mean age of 15.91 ± 1.22 years, who were all enrolled in a high school and who participated in school orienteering as a sports activity. The volunteer adolescents participated in the orienteering activity on a large, campus-like terrain that had a topographic map. The orienteering-specific goals were placed in this course at certain distances between them. Team Pro Polar was utilized to determine the participants’ internal and external loads. The ‘Mann-Whitney U’ test was utilized for the comparison of the data obtained from the participants in terms of their sexes. Results : The orienteering activity was found to cause a high-level internal load in adolescents, but no statistically significant differences were found between the sexes ( p > 0.05). Female course runners were found to cover distance mostly by walking and low-speed running. Men were found to cover longer distances than the women in moderate, high and maximum-speed running. Conclusions : The findings of this study show that orienteering is a physically challenging activity for both male and female adolescents. While the sexes were similar in terms of internal load, men were found to be exposed to a higher load in terms of their external load.","PeriodicalId":16360,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men's Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48648055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several studies about their efficacy but there is not much evidence about their impact on the recovery of kayak sprint male athletes. Methods : Ten elite male sprint kayakers completed an exercise protocol on a kayak ergometer on two separate days. They were randomized to wear a cold vest during a 15 min active rest on one of these days. Following the pre designed protocol, all sessions were performed in a climate chamber with controlled temperature and humidity conditions. At both moments, the blood lactate concentration was determined, as well as urine temperature. Skin temperature in the latissimus dorsi muscle area was assessed several times along the protocol, using infrared thermography. Borg’s rating of perceived exertion (RPE Scale) was applied to the protocol after each exercise bout and the perceived recovery scale was applied before the last moment of the protocol (500 m test). Results : The subjective perception of recovery was significantly higher during the cooling vest condition ( p < 0.01). There were no significant differences on performance in the 500 m maximal test when comparing both days. On the other hand, after the active recovery with cold vest, the skin temperature ( p < 0.01), urine temperature ( p < 0.05) and blood lactate concentration were all significantly lower ( p < 0.05). Discussion : Results revealed that the cooling vest is a suitable instrument to induce a decrease in skin and core temperature while paddling and also to reduce more quickly the blood lactate concentration. The vest should be tested under on-water conditions in order to consider other factors such as wind and solar radiation. Conclusions : Wearing a cooling vest during active rest after a training session or a competition seems to improve the recovery of male kayakers.","PeriodicalId":16360,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men's Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43200948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These changes created by the COVID-19 pandemic have had a direct negative impact on cancer screening and new cancer diagnosis. Methods: We aimed to compare prostate specific antigen (PSA) requested, TRUS guided biopsy (TRUS-Bx) and new prostate cancer (PCa) diagnoses from 1 January 2019 to the end of 31 December 2021 both on an annual basis and as a monthly change, and evaluate the percentage change. Patients' age, prostate volume, PSA values, pathology results of biopsies were analyzed as basic demographic information. Results: From January 2019 through December 2021, there were 18618 PSA testing and 141 TRUS-Bx results from men in the hospital database. When we look at the distribution of PSA test requests by years, we see that 8473 in 2019, 4763 with a decrease of 44% in 2020 and a 12% increase in 2021 compared to 2020, but still 36.5% less in 2019. When we look at the number of TRUS-Bx, we see that we performed a total of 141 TRUS-Bx between January 2019 and December 2021. While we performed 65 TRUS-Bx in 2019 before the pandemic, this figure decreased to 40 with a 38.5% decrease in 2020, while we observed that the similar situation continued with 36 cases in 2021. Conclusions: As a result, our findings show that a significant number of PCa screening opportunities and cancer diagnoses are missed. Delays in cancer diagnosis will cause adverse clinical outcomes in the coming years. Considering that PCa does not pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it may cause patients to progress to more advanced disease stage at the time of diagnosis, require more aggressive treatment and even succumb to cancer due to the delays that occur. Further work is required to analyze the assessment of the clinical prognostic impact of cancer diagnosis delays.","PeriodicalId":16360,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men's Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49611682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PSSD is commonly associated with sexual problems with marked distress and poor quality of life. To date, however, no effective treatment is available. The study describes the clinical experience with a newly introduced systems sexology approach involving bio-psycho-social interventions. Methods : In this study we retrospectively analyzed (from July 2019 to July 2020) twelve PSSD male patients (mean age 31.3 ± 6.21 years old) treated according to a recently introduced approach involving system sexology and bio-psycho-social interventions. The protocol was based on a combination of lifestyle changes, nutritional supplementation, pharmacological and behavioral interventions. Results : 12 patients with high probability of PSSD were selected. Patients reported a significant improvement in all International Index of Erectile Function-15 (IIEF) domains and Orgasmometer scores from the baseline at 6 months of follow-up. Conclusions : This study described for the first time a feasible and handy treatment procedure for PSSD, framework to improve patients complains, sexual function and satisfaction, and quality of life. Future randomized, placebo-controlled clinical studies with bigger cohorts will be needed in order to better assess this efficacy and confirm our results.","PeriodicalId":16360,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men's Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45765516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
