The algorithm does not require ranging devices. It uses node connectivity to estimate the location of unknown (location unaware) nodes based on two or more anchor (location aware) nodes. The algorithm works in two steps. In the first step, the True Intersection Points (TIPs) that constitute the vertices of the smallest communication overlap polygon (SCOP) of the anchor nodes' communication ranges are found. The second step estimates the location of the unknown node at the center of the SCOP which is formed from these TIPs. The performance is evaluated through MatLab simulation and compares favorably to state-of-the-art algorithms: Centroid, improved version of CPE and Mid-perpendicular localization algorithms. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms in location accuracy which is a serious drawback of range-free localization methods when compared to range-based.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"23 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116694670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It delivers best estimates of the directions of the system users, an information of the utmost importance to the so-called smart base stations. Closed-form expressions are provided that determine the shape of the optimum antenna array. In the worst case scenario, when the system user may arise at any direction, his location is estimated with a precision 32% higher than using the commonly used circular array. Furthermore, if more is known, in advance, about the user location, the accuracy dramatically increases to up to 85%. With such an increased localization capability, the base station is able to more efficiently focus its beam-pattern into the direction(s) of the targeted user(s), while, at the same time, reduces the amount of interference caused to neighboring base stations.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124978612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on algorithms that learn manifolds of increasing but low dimensionality for representative data. As opposed to Manifold Sensing, the new foveated version senses only the most salient areas of a scene. This leads to an efficient sensing strategy that requires only a small number of sensing actions. The method is adaptive because during the sensing process, every new sensing action depends on the previously acquired sensing values. Finally, we propose a hybrid sensing scheme that starts with Manifold Sensing and proceeds with Foveated Manifold Sensing. This sensing scheme needs even less sensing actions for the considered recognition tasks. We apply the proposed algorithms to object recognition on the UMIST and ALOI datasets. We show that, for both databases, we reach a 100% recognition rate with only 10 sensing values.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125155787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For many classes of phase manipulated (PM) signals it is possible to transform their periodic ACFs (PACFs) in ideal PACFs by the so-named side-lobe suppression filters (SLSFs). Due to this reason in the paper two necessary conditions for synthesis of energy-efficient SLSFs are proved. On this base it is demonstrated that for the wireless communication system the PM signals with flat or nearly flat energy spectrum could be as useful as the PM signals with ideal PACF.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122111052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also analyzes the performance of the classical relay-based distributed Alamouti scheme with single-antenna devices and, as baseline, by the non-cooperative Alamouti scheme which uses an antenna array at the source. We present the theoretical derivations of the BLER provided by the three schemes vs. the SNRs of the employed channels, using an approximation of the BLER ensured by the channel code used on each constituent link and validate them by computer simulation, both for the downlink and uplink transmissions of a generic cellular network, over Rayleigh block-faded channels, for various positions of the user terminal vs. the base station and relays.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129130407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From time to time, dynamically changing channel characteristics cause queue overflows, packet drops and, finally, video quality degradation. To eliminate it, the well known I-Frame delay algorithm drops the least important packets when the queue overflows. However, this algorithm starts working only when the queue overflows. Inspired by many works on video bitrate and channel quality prediction, we study how I-Frame Delay would benefit if it knew about future queue overflows and filtered packets in advance. We show that even with the ideal prediction the improvement is negligible.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121407414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SEI is very significant for improving the security of wireless networks. A novel SEI method which treats the emitter as a nonlinear dynamical system is proposed in this paper. The method works based on the signal's nonlinear characteristics which result from the unintentional and unavoidable physical-layer imperfections. The reconstructed phase space (RPS) is used as the tool for analyzing the nonlinearity. The entire characteristics of RPS and state changes characteristics of points in RPS are extracted to form RFF. To evaluate the availability of the RFF, the signals from four wireless network cards are collected by a signal acquisition system. The proposed RFF's discrimination capabilities are visually analyzed using the boxplot. The results of visual analysis and classification demonstrate that this method is effective.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124573613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple post-detection integration at the secondary user receiver using the FB output signals is employed for signal demodulation of differential phase-shift keying symbols transmitted on a set of subcarriers. A constrained optimization design for the FB prototype filter coefficients is proposed which combines time-frequency (TF) concentration properties for spectrum sensing with system specifications in terms of the maximum allowed bit-error rate (BER) for the fading channel characteristics and models the primary user signal as a Gaussian distributed process. The FB TF resolution properties as well as the BER performance are investigated for transmission with a raw bit rate of 30Mbit/s in an indoor scenario.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114725864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To successfully help the senior citizens, usually a monitoring system is needed that can gather and process data from various sensors about the healthcare condition of the user and environment parameters (noise level, light, humidity and temperature). In this paper we describe a cloud-based approach for monitoring the healthcare condition of senior citizens and the fusion of big data from heterogeneous information flows coming from the sensors. Furthermore, because context understanding is not easily done with a single source of metadata, we analyze metadata available from various online sources, aiming to understand the context of its users, in order to offer them personalized eHealth services.","PeriodicalId":162582,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117208482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
