The channel problem arises when CDMA signals are subject to frequency selective fading. Blind channel estimation is desired when training data is unavailable. Blind channel estimation techniques in the literature often rely on subspace decomposition of received signals. Blind channel estimation can also be coupled with a multiuser receiver design in the context of a minimum output energy (MOE) criterion. While subspace decomposition is avoided, the inverse of the data covariance matrix of the received signals is needed (Xu, Z. et al., Proc. IEEE Asilomar Conf. Signals, Syst. Comput., p.689-93, 2002). Previously (Ozdemir, O. and Torlak, M., Proc. IEEE Int. Conf. on Commun., vol.5, p.2621-5, 2004), we proposed a blind channel estimation method using simple covariance matrix transformations. We now use analytical and simulation results to show that the channel estimates converge to the eigendecomposition based channel estimates at medium to high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).","PeriodicalId":162046,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2004. We propose a new medium access control scheme, TDM-based coordination function (TCF), which can be used when all the stations are within the radio transmission range. TCF uses information on the number of active stations explicitly to eliminate the contention period in the DCF (distributed coordination function) of IEEE 802.11. TCF can improve overall throughput and provide fair sharing of resources among active stations. Also, TCF is simple and can be implemented distributively. This framework can be applied to adaptive resource allocation over correlated fading channels. It is shown that the optimal rate and power control can be obtained by solving the appropriately formulated Markov decision processes using linear programming techniques. In the case of adaptive MQAM systems, the optimal rate allocation policy is dependent on the current buffer occupancy and the channel state. For hybrid ARQ systems the power control law can be formulated as being dependent on the current buffer occupancy and the history record of channel and action observations. From the broad spectrum of sources we surveyed, including logging data from real networks, it appears that DM is surprisingly common and very severe. We show how DM introduces degenerative traffic anomalies capable of drastically reducing flow throughput. We, then, propose a novel detection algorithm based on end-to-end active probing. Our investigation is complemented by the implementation of a SW prototype. Extensive experimental evaluation is conducted in a real-world production LAN. The achieved results are encouraging and show that our prototype can be a very useful tool. Our evaluation attained a high success rate of misconfiguration detection: 99.72%. False positive and false negative rates are extremely contained: 0.00% and 0.28%, respectively. The paper presents a blind channel estimation method for MIMO-OFDM systems with and without a cyclic prefix (CP) by using the presence of virtual carriers. The proposed method is based on the noise subspace method. In addition, we establish a sufficient condition for channels to be identifiable. The proposed algorithm can be applied to MIMO-OFDM systems with insufficient CP or no CP, thereby potentially increasing channel utilization. Furthermore, by using reduced CP or no CP, the proposed method can achieve lower computational complexity. The objective is to minimize the overall processing and transmission energy consumption with the expected end-to-end QoS guarantee, which is achieved by jointly adjusting the source coding schemes, channel coding rates, and transmitter power levels in an optimal way. The advantages of the proposed system lie in three aspects: adaptivity, optimality, and low complexity. The CPLD scheduler considers the condition of the physical channel and the length of packets at the same time, and optimally allocates the subcarriers in a frame. With this scheduler the system can achieve better system BER performance, and correspondingly superior PER performance. The system throughput is improved, at the same time the required bandwidth is guaranteed, and long term fairness for all the traffic in the system is provided. In order to reduce the algorithm complexity, a simplified CPLD is proposed, which maintains the system throughput as in the original scheduler, and guarantees the system performance with properly set system parameters.
