To increase the number of available bursts for TOA estimation (and therefore increase the accuracy), the mobile can use bursts from all time slots. However, this requires that the TOA estimation algorithm is able to handle GMSK and 8PSK bursts without a-priori knowledge about the modulation scheme. In this paper, the mutual effect of different modulation formats on the TOA estimation performance for E-OTD location is investigated. A TOA estimation algorithm is described, which does not require a blind detection of the modulation scheme.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133227673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, we specialize a general approach originally introduced for detection and classification of noise contaminated patterns to the case of digitally modulated signals such as M-ary PSK and QAM. We consider two different classifiers: one that provides only satisfactory performance for high signal-to-noise ratio, and one that performs also well in the low SNR regime. The former has the additional advantage of being invariant to both unknown phase angle (rotation) and signal amplitude, and can be used for all QAM signal constellations (including M-ary PSK), whereas the latter is only used for discrimination of M-ary PSK signals. Using simulation, we analyze the performance of the proposed classifier for transmission over the additive white Gaussian noise channel and both coherent and non-coherent reception. Moreover, the robustness of the classifier against mismatched noise modeling is discussed.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127638665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the performances are damaged compared to the situation with an ideal channel, more especially as the number of users increases. In this paper, we first use the cross-spectral matrix of the aliased coded channels to recall linear multi-user detector (ZF and MMSE) and express a degradation factor of interference and noise to signal ratio due to a non-ideal channel, with or without fading. The degradation and bit error probability are then computed in the concrete situation of indoor and pedestrian channel environments in order to show the great benefit of one or two supplementary sensors at the reception system.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"525 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117224061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solutions of the positioning problem requiring time and angle of arrival measurements have been proposed. The problem of estimating the time of arrival (TOA) of the line of sight (LOS) component of narrowband digital signals in a multipath environment is addressed. A TOA estimation algorithm designed to operate under low SNR is proposed. The algorithm combats multipath propagation by exploiting the fading statistics of the mobile channel. Performance of the algorithm obtained through simulations using COST propagation models for GSM and IS-136 signals is shown and is promising.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124597206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rate control algorithm can be further divided into Common Rate Control (CRC) and Dedicated Rate Control (DRC). In CRC, each mobile station (MS) independently determines its reverse link rate using the system interference level information broadcasted by a base station (BSs) and rate control mechanism at the MS side. While in DRC, the BS sends each MS a rate movement command. On the other hand, centralized scheduling directly assigns reverse link rates to a subset of MSs. In this paper, the Token Bucket based Common Rate Control (TB- CRC) mechanism is discussed and compared with the centralize scheduling. Performances have been evaluated through system level simulation. It is shown that the token bucket based rate control philosophy outperforms the centralized scheduling from the aspect of throughput, fairness, system stability, signaling overhead and transmission delay.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114816417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Along with that, there is a limitation that the timing error can not be revised in the absence of pilot symbols. In this paper we investigate the impact of timing error on the receiver's BER performance of TDD pre-equalized OFDM systems. We obtain the analytic BPSK BER expressions of ideally and nonideally pre-equalized OFDM systems in multipath Rayleigh fading environment. The corresponding simulations verify the analytic expressions. Compared with the theoretical system performance bound, the performance of ideal and nonideal pre-equalization entail loss of 1db and 3db respectively when the normalized timing error is 1/8. When it is 1/4, both of the two systems' performances degrade severely. At the same time, the gap between them diminishes. In that case, timing error becomes dominant among those elements which would affect system performance.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121713503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A certain number of data relaying stations (DRS), which can relay packets from one cell to another in a manner similar to the ad-hoc multi-hop relaying mechanism, are placed in the cellular system to balance traffic load between neighboring cells. The placement of DRS is carefully studied to provide a full relaying coverage of the cell area with the minimum number of DRS. According to a distributed delay-sensitive relaying control strategy, mobile stations (MS) can locally decide whether to divert their traffic to neighboring cells without any central control. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly improve the system throughput and resource utilization and reduce the average packet delay.","PeriodicalId":161972,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"317 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115833316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
