Google Earth Engine (GEE) is a platform designed for the processing of multispectral satellite databases used for the temporary observation of terrestrial phenomena. This tool was selected to model the chlorophyll-a concentration of the Sierpe River, which is located within the Térraba Sierpe National Wetland (HNTS), Costa Rica. For the adjustment, a linear correlation function where the independent variable is the division of the red edge by the blue spectral band from Sentinel-2 level 2A images, was used. Appropriate filters for tropical conditions were applied. The modeling results were validated with laboratory data and 43 images of the river were generated showing a complete correspondence with the trend of the contents in the different seasons of the year, and the reported data of growth of aquatic plants that increase after fertilization.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121469121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Differential expression of genes such as ALPL, FGF7, PDRM1, and NR4A2 are involved in the exposure to tension or compression forces by contributing to bone remodeling. In this study, a systems biology approach is used in order to identify a modulator of gene expression when mechanical loadings are applied in periodontal ligament cells. We developed a mathematical model of the interaction network of ALPL and FGF7 with several miRNAs and the transcription factor modulators in BioNetUCR, Cytoscape and COPASI software. We found that miR129-2 has a negative control in ALPL, FGF7, NR4A2 and PRDM1 genes, while miRNA192 has a negative control in ALPL and FGF7 genes in compression and tension side. Both miRNAs are proposed for future experimental validation.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"631 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129076311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known that labeling a dataset is a costly task in time, money, and resource-wise. Consequently, Semi-supervised Learning Model (SSLM) approach comes into the picture as it uses labeled and unlabeled datasets to train a model, practice that is useful in improving the overall performance of the models. The unlabeled datasets may include out-of-distribution data or inside-of-distribution data points, which may affect the model’s accuracy and future predictions. This investigation proposes a metric that can be useful to determine how much the unlabeled dataset can or cannot affect the accuracy of the SSLM. It also aims to demonstrate that the data quality metrics is a topic that needs further research, especially, when considering that the future of Deep learning models targets real-world applications such as healthcare. Concepts such as data quality metrics has been normally applied in structured data, however, it can also be applied in unstructured data (datasets used to train deep learning models). The method employed in this research takes the Mahalanobis distance as a base to generate a trend and then a metric. The approach follows what is demonstrated and proposed in [1], but uses the covariance matrices to compare the labeled and unlabeled datasets. The experimentation shows that the Mahalanobis distance generates results that are accordant to the proposed method, achieving a processing time lower by 99%. Using the Pierson’s correlation method the result was a hard negative correlation with the MixMatch results reported in [1].","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130937017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, many of the biological and molecular mechanisms regarding the development of this disease remain unclear. To contribute to the understanding of PD, we developed a bioinformatic pipeline to identify differentially expressed genes (DEG) in public transcriptomic data from gingival tissue in patients with or without the disease, with subsequent analyses to characterize gene interactions and biological functions. After gene expression analysis, a total of 221 genes showed significant expression differences in gingival tissue from patients with periodontal condition compared to unaffected cases. In the annotation of the biological processes associated with these genes, a diversity of signal transduction and metabolic pathways were evidenced, highlighting those associated with immune response and extracellular matrix metabolism. In the interactome model with all the 221 differentially expressed genes, 17 were recognized as hub or central genes. Biological functions for hub genes resulted in line with the annotations for the whole network. Thus, these molecules are predicted to be useful as possible biomarkers for the periodontal condition. Further analyses are required to validate the possible role of these candidate genes as possible markers for diagnosis, prognosis, or therapeutic targets.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126778534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impact is a deterioration of ecosystems and water quality. In this research, the concentration of nitrate ions in the surface waters of a territory was modeled under the same land use model, Costa Rica, with 88.2% accuracy. Free access physicochemical data and geographic information were used in the modeling, processed with the Random Forest learning algorithm of the R program. Climatic, soil and terrain topography data that affect mobilization were included. Finally, a Geographic Information System (GIS) was developed with the vector layers obtained and the modeled points were classified into concentration categories related to anthropogenic activity. The results show alert values in the wetlands of the North Caribbean and South Pacific. The relationship between the factors that mobilize the nitrate ion, and the modeled nitrate ion concentration is consistent.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126325473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This device was inspired by the conventional sensory analysis process with trained panelists, emulating some of the senses used for evaluating a product. This solution was proposed to guarantee the repeatability and reproducibility of this type of process, reducing the time incurred in the training of panelists and the number of samples to be prepared for the characterization and standardization of various food matrices. The device was evaluated in an experiment involving hundred (100) panelists. Concurrently, the results were compared with the sensory analysis done. The data obtained showed a high similarity between the information obtained from the panelists and the analysis carried out in the software. It is expected to continue testing with panelists to finish adjusting the prototype and transfer technology to the food industry in the near future.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116243704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of them, proline, can be found in high concentrations in collagen, being this protein the most supportive for the skin, tendons, bones, and connective tissue, promoting their health and recovery. Here, we compute the lipophilicity of 25 non-coded proline analogs using the quantum mechanics implicit solvation model SMD. Comparison with the experimental data provided for partition coefficients yielded a root-mean square error (rmse) of 0.72 (log P units). Overall, the results support the appropriateness of SMD solvation model for computing the n-octanol/water partition coefficient in proline analogs, which can be used to tune the hydrophobic properties of bioinspired synthetic peptides.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122771053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advanced age is the main risk factor, with a median age at diagnosis between 70 and 84 years, with women 3 to 4 times less at risk than men. This is traditionally attributed to exposure and lifestyle, the use of carcinogens such as tobacco smoke, and exposure to carcinogenic aromatic amines is the second most important risk factor, representing (dyes, rubbers, textiles, paints and leathers) the second highest risk factor. Micro-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) requires patients to undergo long-term invasive surveillance with diagnostic and therapeutic cystoscopy. The treatment of MIBC is undergoing rapid changes, as immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies and antibody conjugates have become possible therapeutic options, and the identification of potential therapeutic targets with miRNAs is of increasing research interest.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124028607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In birds, the use of automated song and call recognition has progressed to support bird studies about ecology and behavior. We used a Pattern Matching method to label the presence of the Cinnamon Woodpecker, Great-Green Macaw, Red-capped Manakin and Chestnut-backed Antbird to create a random forest model and detect the species’ vocalizations to characterize their vocal activity in the reserve. We used Audiomoth recorders. For all acoustic detection models, accuracy, and precision values above 91% were obtained despite the imbalance of positive and negative classes, the value of Unweighted Average Recall was high for each model. Three sites showed the highest number of detections and the number of detections per site varied among species. A preference of use for some sites within the reserve was identified for A. ambiguus and C. mentalis and a more generalist use for C. loricatus and P. exsul. For each species, greater acoustic activity was found in the morning hours with less activity in the afternoon hours for some of the species with a peak of activity between February to May. The acoustic detection patterns found agreed with the literature for each species when analyzing the ecological behaviors inside and outside the breeding season of birds in Costa Rica. This acoustic information will improve conservation decision making for the species involved and other species that develop in these ecosystems.","PeriodicalId":161872,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on BioInspired Processing (BIP)","volume":"234 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123261925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
