Through physical atmospheric models, a short period time weather can be accurately forecasted. To provide weather forecast, machines learning techniques can be used for understanding and analyzing weather patterns. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based weather forecast system and conduct data volume and recency analysis by utilizing a real-world weather data set as a case study to demonstrate the learning ability of deep learning model. By using the Python Keras library and Pandas library1, we implement the proposed system. Based on the system, we find out not only the relationship between the prediction accuracy and data volume, but also the relationship between the prediction accuracy and data recency. Through extensive evaluations, our results show that according to the weather data we have been using, more data is beneficial to increasing the accuracy of a trained model. The recency of the data does not have a consistently significant impact on the accuracy of the trained model.1Certain commercial equipment, instruments, or materials are identified in this paper in order to specify the experimental procedure adequately. Such identification is not intended to imply recommendation or endorsement by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, nor is it intended to imply that the materials or equipment identified are necessarily the best available for the purpose.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114373298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implementation of SON with ML as a foundation requires significant amounts of real labeled sample data for the networks to train on, with high correlation between the amount of sample data and the effectiveness of the SON algorithm. As generally real labeled data is scarce therefore it can become bottleneck for ML empowered SON for unleashing their true potential. In this work, we propose a method of expanding these sample data sets using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), which are based on two interconnected deep artificial neural networks. This method is an alternative to taking more data to expand the sample set, preferred in cases where taking more data is not simple, feasible, or efficient. We demonstrate how the method can generate large amounts of realistic synthetic data, utilizing the GAN’s ability of generation and discrimination, able to be easily added to the sample set. This method is, as an example, implemented with Call Data Records (CDRs) containing the start hour of a call and the duration of the call, in minutes taken from a real mobile operator. Results show that the method can be used with a relatively small sample set and little information about the statistics of the true CDRs and still make accurate synthetic ones.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126878801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our approach uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to train a dataset of hundreds of instances from the ASL alphabet, extracting the features from each and every pixel and constructing an accurate translator based on predictions. This approach employs an atypical trade-off for a translator, where a superior precision and speed at the inference phase compensates for the computational expense at the early training. Furthermore, and to the best of our knowledge, the accuracy obtained by using the proposed deep learning technique, surpass the accuracy obtained using non-machine learning practices. The performance obtained by the proposed algorithm has also been compared with existing literature, showing that the suggested methodology outperformed the accuracy of its analogous counterparts.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124160908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A limitation in creating a new caching algorithm is the cost associated with its development, testing, analysis, and efficiency in specific scenarios. The Functional Algebraic aTomic Evaluators (FATE) is introduced to address this problem. FATE is an information processing engine that evaluates information (such as the value of cached content) and acts upon said results. FATE is designed to be highly configurable and flexible, and to enable rapid development, accuracy in duplicate functionality on different platforms, and ease of use. It uses XML configuration files to setup the evaluation of the content. Each algorithm in FATE can be used as-is or optimized.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123454131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cumulative distribution function of a sum of lognormal random variables does not yield a closed-form expression, thus it is challenging to approximate the outage probability of a diversity system over lognormal fading channels. In this work, we obtain the closed-form expressions of outage probability bounds for dual-branch equal-gain combining (EGC) system over correlated lognormal fading channels. A detailed proof and numerical results verify the tightness of the bounds from low to high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes. The new analytical tool provides an efficient way to compare two EGC systems over correlated lognormal fading channels, and shows that correlation can cause an infinite SNR loss to the EGC system.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"143 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121893994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, we first propose a quantitative QoE evaluation model based on playback continuity, segment media quality and perceptual quality fluctuations caused by bitrate switching to evaluate users’ subjective perception accurately. Large quantities of subjective mean-opinion-score (MOS) tests show that there exists a good correlation between our model score and subjective perception. Second, we formulate the rate adaptation in DASH services as the optimization problem of multi-stage decision process, and the goal of optimization is to maximize the reward of decision that measured by the QoE model. Numerous experiment results demonstrate that our proposed rate adaptation approach has good performance in different network environments.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116447819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a general EON, a spectrum allocation must not conflict two constraints. First, the allocated spectrum band must be continuous from a source to a destination if no spectrum converter is applied. Second, spectrum slots for the allocated spectrum band must be consecutive in a link. Recently, a technology to slice and to recover the spectrum band has been invented. The second constraint of the general EON can be broken. The proposed scheme applies a slicing technology in the EON. An algorithm to allocate the spectrum is introduced. Results show that the request blocking of the proposed scheme reduces up to 82% and 13% in a low traffic and high traffic, respectively, compared to the general EON.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128223540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To effectively increase the real-time performance of millimeter-wave (mmWave) MIMO system, a series of advanced communication techniques have been proposed recently, such as Hybrid precoding and MIMO relay, which integrated analog and digital schemes to reduce the hardware complexity of the conventional fully-digital beamforming and further maximizing the capacity of the MIMO channel through introducing relays and formulating multi-hop system. However, in practice harsh conditions such as uncertainty environment like rain, wind, snow, users’ movement, and the unknown interference, would seriously affect the effectiveness and practicality of those emerging communication techniques. This paper proposes a Game Theoretic Based Intelligent Multi-User Millimeter-Wave MIMO (GT-MU-MIMO) system that includes a novel dynamic code book based beam training protocol and an online reinforcement learning algorithm supervising the mobility of multi-robot-relay as well as handling the serious effects from the uncertain environment and unknown interference. Firstly, a novel dynamic codebook development has been introduced to lower the complexity during multi-user beam training. Then, a decentralized game theoretic deep reinforcement learning based intelligent algorithm has been developed. It will not only optimize GT-MU-MIMO beam training efficiency and managing mobility of multi-robot-relay online, and also effectively handle uncertainty while user moving and avoiding the signal interference from unknown radio jamming attack, etc. The effectiveness of proposed design has been demonstrated through computer aided simulation.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132283367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, users lost the control totally once they upload their photos to the current social network. In this paper, we propose the design, implementation and evaluation of PrivacyJPEG, a framework to preserve users’ privacy on their uploaded photos, especially when these photos are forwarded to other social networks. PrivacyJPEG acts as a third-party plugin to existing photo sharing-supported social networks, it enables: 1) to encrypt several privacy areas of photos and bind the access control polices before users uploading their photos, 2) each user’s privacy policy could restrain the following users on a dissemination chain, 3) any privacy areas on the photos could be hidden away from unwanted viewers even across different social networks. Besides, PrivacyJPEG presents a carefully designed embedding method, which binds the policies to the uploaded JPEG file without disturbing their displays. We implement a prototype of PrivacyJPEG, design and perform a set of useful real life experiments. The evaluation results indicate the effectiveness and efficiency of PrivacyJPEG.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133477645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, operators are still unable to monitor user QoE effectively because traditional network quality indices are not directly related to the user’s audiovisual experiences. Motivated by the fact that mobile devices are the network elements closest to the users, we explore the possibility of estimating user QoE by capitalizing on mobile terminal capabilities. For this purpose, we first collect over eighty thousand data records through a self-developed mobile application operating in the real world conditions with the support of a prominent Chinese wireless network operator (i.e., China Unicom). The collected data consist of 89 objective parameters concerning wireless video services and 4 types of subjective user scores. Then, we perform data preprocessing and feature selection based on Spearman correlation analyses. Finally, we establish two predictive models for QoE estimation based on the classification tree C4.5 algorithm and the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) algorithm, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the two decision tree-based models outperform other machine learning algorithms. Specifically, the prediction accuracy of the GBDT is approximately 70% for a five-level scale and approaches 90% for a more practical 3-level scale. Therefore, this study strongly demonstrates the feasibility of the user terminal-based approach for QoE prediction.","PeriodicalId":161815,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132948545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
