The division of labor in the application is determined by a network flow assignment algorithm. The effect of variation in availability of the host computer on the distribution of the application is also studied. In particular, host availability is an important factor in determining the task distribution. As host availability decreased, procedures miqrate from the host to the satellite.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124955479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is an efficient solution to the problem when the demand for customized circuit layouts greatly overshadows the more standardized techniques. No computer background or programming experience is required. This approach allows the designer to quickly compose high-density mask layouts using simple free-hand line symbols. These easily drawn symbols, representing complex circuitry, utilize a standard device-level building block library which simplifies the conversion of LSI circuits into photomasks, and permits the designer to generate up to 100% of the layout without leaving his desk.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122824015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The distinguishing feature of the LDE from the multitude of interactive graphics programs that accomplish the same function is the use of a computer controlled TV camera for input and program control rather than conventional interactive input devices such as light pens or data tablets. A graphical editing language allows the LDE user to indicate, by marking the drawing in appropriate fashion, the changes that are to be made. The drawing, which was generated on a hardcopy output device, with the added edit information is placed in front of the camera. In successive phases the LDE computes a two dimensional homogeneous transformation relating the viewed drawing and its computer description, locates the lines added to the drawing, parses the added lines according to the edit language and finally uses this information to update the drawing description.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121163320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For new applications of computer graphics to be developed and used, the graphics terminal must meet the requirements of users and applications. Because many of the users will be nonprogrammers and the interactions will involve pictures, the applications are significantly different from those currently supported by batch computing or alphanumeric terminals. Studies of users, applications, and implementations of interactive computer graphics systems have resulted in thirty specific requirements for the display screen, the associated hardware for input, output, processing and storage, the interaction rates, the terminal packaging, and the support of the applications programmer. Comparison of existing graphics terminal alternatives in terms of the requirements indicates that eighteen of the thirty requirements are provided inadequately. Comparison of the relative importance of the requirements for different classes of applications indicates that color, image mixing, hard copy output, portability, upward compatibility, and reduced reflection, glare, and noise would be the most useful terminal improvements for developing new applications of computer graphics.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128181933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes a computerized method for obtaining images of the dynamic spatial distribution of x-ray attenuation throughout multiple parallel cross-sectional planes bisecting the intact thorax, with 1-mm spatial resolution and 60-per-second temporal resolution, and for generating time delay video and cine displays of the spatial and temporal sequences of these cross-sectional images. Operator-interactive computer programs facilitate the dynamic display of reconstructed cross sections of the heart and lungs, with or without dynamic background subtraction, and permit calculation and display of any desired single or spatially related set of coronal, sagittal or obliquely oriented sections. Such displays permit viewing of the temporal and spatial distribution of contraction, expansion, and perfusion of these organs over their full anatomic extent in various orientations and in variable time-base modes ranging from stop-action to real-time. The results achieved with this computerized system for three-dimensional reconstruction and display of moving organs, particularly the heart, lungs, and circulation, demonstrate the potential for providing greatly improved techniques for investigation of the relationships of the dynamic three-dimensional anatomy and blood-tissue exchange properties of moving organ systems to their regional and integrated function, and ultimately for providing powerful new clinical diagnostic methods for elucidation of abnormalities of the heart, lungs and circulation in man.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122563307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The terminal comprises an integrated of hardware and software. While various choices are available for the actual input and output devices, the present prototype utilizes video display for both devices and a \"cross-wire\", touch-sensitive input panel. The EITS allows an \"author\" to define an essentially infinite set of symbols, and an infinite variety of \"keyboard\" formats. Chord inputs (i.e., simultaneous, multiple-\"key\" combinations) are also supported. Symbols can be defined in terms of dot matrices, generalized graphics, symbol strings, and functional operations. In spite of the complete generality afforded, the integrated system develops a standard-type of binary-bit-coded input stream, in which the individual symbols are uniquely and canonically represented, and which is amenable to all of the usual \"text-file\" operations, such as character manipulation, editing, transmission and re-display.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121188525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system relies on the user's recognition of phenomena of interest and his manipulation of simple graphical objects to build up a kinegram, an animated representationof the film. Display of the kinegram superimposed on the original film facilitates the entry and refinement of the animation. The net result is an analysis by synthesis. In this paper we describe the current production version of GALATEA from the standpoint of the user. Included are a functional description of the constituent hardware, demonstration of various aspects of system behavior, and some examples of interactions common in user applications.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123524470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Miles","doi":"10.1145/563274.563302","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/563274.563302","url":null,"abstract":"A low cost graphic and data collection facility consisting of a storage tube display, plotter, digital multimeter, floppy disc, calculator and BCD instrumentation interface has been built into a single, mobile unit. Laboratory data may be collected automatically by recording the output of the low speed digital multimeter or medium speed BCD DMA interface in calculator memory and then buffering the data to either floppy disc or tape cassette. The data can be summarized and displayed immediately on the CRT or plotter by the calculator using programs available on a floppy disc resident library. Alternatively, the data can be routed to one of two timesharing computer systems at speeds up to 9600 baud where 2-D and 3-D software packages and large application libraries can be used to construct more sophisticated displays for presentation interactively on the CRT. Various applications appropriate to a university environment are discussed. A similar facility at the Sacramento offices of the Army Corps of Engineers used for flood information reporting is also described.","PeriodicalId":160433,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1976-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116504331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
