By fingerprinting isotopes at sensitive levels, one can track pollutants in various environmental samples and characterize specific locations and sources including those contaminants and chemical runoff. In this work, degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) is employed to analyze atomic isotopes and the hyperfine structures. Rubidium (Rb), cesium (Cs) and potassium (K) isotopes are measured. The results show that isotopes and hyperfine structures of the three samples are clearly resolved. Low detect limit as 5.4 fg/ml, 0.63 pg/mL and 0.09 fg/mL are achieved for Rb, Cs and K isotopes respectively. Isotope-level resolution and trace-level sensitivity indicate that DFWM is a potential spectroscopic technique in isotope trace analysis in environment application.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122825515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, with the advantages of simple structure and high stability, intermodal interference technology has attracted more people's eyes. In this paper, we investigate the theoretical analysis and experiment results of intermodal interference in several polarization maintaining optic fibers such as elliptical core fiber, panda fiber and two-hole PCF. The mode propagation characteristics, dual-mode operation range and intermodal interference propagation constant difference of these fibers are analysised comparatively. And an experiment is setup to demonstrate the thoerical simulation results and the feasibility of optic-fiber sensors based on intermodal interference technology. The research results show that all these three fiber can be used to design intermodal sensors for measuring extern disturbance such as strain, temperature and stress etc.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125019239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ga(NO3)3 was used as gallium source, citric acid as the chelating agent and nickel nitrate as catalyst. After the sol can be formed by mixing ethanol solutions of Ga(NO3)3 and citric acid, the precursor films were coated on Si slices with or without the catalyst. and the dried samples are treated in ammonia at different temperatures in an atmosphere furnace. X-ray diffraction instrument (XRD) indicates that the as-prepared samples are hexagonal GaN, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) reveals that the microstucture morphologies of samples are crystal, nanorods and nanowires, and then high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HTEM) were used to characterize the as-synthesized nanowire is of single-crystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure. In this paper, a novel multiwavelength pulse Brillouin Erbium-doped fiber laser was demonstrated and its principle was given. An electro-optic modulator (EOM) was used to modulate continue wave into pulse light. The results show that, the peak values are unstable, about ±3dB, but the wavelength interval was stable, about 0.088nm. And the unstable factor was discussed. Also the influence of the Brillouin pump power on output optical spectrum was discussed in experiment. Both the wavelength number and the power of the output light increased with the increasing of pulse Brillouin pump power.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123478095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Peculiarities of the interaction of two solitons through such wings in lasers with lumped saturable absorbers (SA) are analyzed. Different sets of bound steady-states of two-soliton molecule are obtained. Among them there are sets with and without an alternation of parity of neighboring quantum steady-states. It is shown that the investigated interaction can result in mechanisms of both attraction and repulsion of loosely bound solitons. It is demonstrated a coding of an information by highly-stable bound soliton sequences.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131320060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By increasing the well thickness, the amplitude of the dipole matrix increases slowly. However, the decrease of the energy separation results in the red-shift of the resonant absorption peak and the decrease of the magnitude of the absorption peak. Moreover, when the well thickness decreases to 10 Å, the evident decrease of the overlap between wave functions for the first two subbands leads to the abrupt decrease of the amplitude of the dipole matrix and the absorption peak. These results indicate that the intersubband optical absorption can be greatly modulated by the well thickness, the built-in electric field has an important effect on the intersubband absorption coefficients in III-nitride QWs, and III-nitride QWs are potential candidates for the design and application of intersubband devices.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116634756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on this algorithm, the initial guessing value is directly corrected based on the relation of the two-end boundary values of laser power when the guessed value does not satisfy the boundary conditions, and it is not necessary to know the initial or terminal laser power. The evolutions of the propagation pump and laser powers along the fiber are analyzed by the efficient algorithm. It is proved that the initial guessed laser power can be fast convergent to the truth value regardless of the magnitude of the initial guessed laser power, and this algorithm can be effective even if the pump power is up to kilowatt level. Finally, compared with the improved shooting algorithm based on the Newton-Raphson method, the iteration progress of this algorithm is easier when the initial guessed value do not satisfy the boundary conditions, and the running time is at least 2 times as fast as that of the improved shooting algorithm, so this algorithm can be more quickly and simpler convergent to the truth value. So, this algorithm can be used in the Tm3+-doped double-clad fiber laser efficiently.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"390 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123362118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SR-AOFF is based on semiconductor optical amplifier-Mach Zehnder Interferometer (SOA-MZI) operating at a single wavelength. It is composed of two coupled SOA-MZIs using a common bidirectional coupler. Due to self phase modulation (SPM) and self gain modulation (SGM) in SOAs, two SOA-MZI switches modulate the injected photon rate of each other. This process occurs in a positive feedback loop to demonstrate an optical bistabilty. The simulation results show that excitation pulses with 35ps duration and optical energy of 7.5fJ can switch the output states. Switching transition time is about 110ps and is equal for leading and falling edges. The output power of this flip-flop is estimated to be in the order of 20 milliWatts.","PeriodicalId":159850,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134560422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
