At the same time, special attention is paid to autonomous decentralized sources of green energy, namely, devices that can be installed in places with a high foot traffic density. EE is being generated thanks to pedestrians moving on such devices. The aim of the work is to study the process of generating renewable energy by an energy-generating platform (EP) based on a multiplier with spur gears, depending on the number and connection scheme of stepper motors to the electric machine unit of the EP. Experimental studies of the electric power generation process have been carried out, depending on the number and connection scheme of stepper motors (SM) to its electric machine unit. Such a platform has compact overall dimensions and it is intended to be installed both indoors and outdoors, in places with high foot traffic. To conduct experimental research, a prototype of the EP with an electric machine unit was developed. The analysis of the conducted experimental studies and the subsequent processing of their results made it possible to determine that the use of two SMs in the EP electric machine unit increases the value of the generated electricity by ~44%. When performing one step on the EP, the installation generates approximately 1.11W of electricity. The connection of two SMs increases the value of the generated electricity by 1.69 times (in direct motion) and 1.38 times (in reverse motion). Knowing the EP potential capabilities and the passing people number, it is possible to calculate the EE value which the EP can generate in a certain time of work, which allows you to determine the required number of such devices at the facility to provide it with the green EE fully or partially.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130840975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed detection and isolation method is based on the analysis of only the output voltage signature. This latter reveals a specific distortion caused by the faulty switch. Its identification is achieved upon the location of the distortion within the fundamental period of the output voltage. Numerical simulations and experimental tests confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in detecting open-switch faults in the PUC5 inverter.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131268951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the research project ”Hybrid-Optimal”, this concept was tested in a low voltage grid in Germany. A hybrid battery storage system was operated to prevent overvoltages in an area with significant decentral PV generation. In this paper, the algorithm and the software environment are presented and explained. Additionally, measurement data of a test period is analysed and evaluated. The battery system was able to fulfil its task in general during the test period. On several days, unintentional battery states occurred, corrective measures are thus discussed in the paper.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123752677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to compensate for the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources and remedy to possible imbalance problems on the national grids, the users of the electricity system are required to reduce interactions with the grid and increase the self-consumption of energy. Accordingly, prosumers equipped with local generation and storage systems, and enriched with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, are encouraged to join the energy communities, as they can produce, store and share energy with the other members of the community. The proper sizing of storage systems is essential in this context. This paper presents an IoT-based management model that exploits the energy sharing among the prosumers of a community, with the aim of evaluating the impact of the storage systems’ sizes on the energy self-consumption and on the cost savings that can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122890348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process leading to optimization includes selection suitable airfoils, placing the airfoils along the blade radius, splining between the specified airfoils. The performance of the blade design is evaluated using a MATLAB code that uses the blade element momentum theory (BEM) and its modifications to get the results. The blades of the turbine and their aerodynamic efficiency are considered vital to the small wind turbine (SWT) efficiency and therefore vital to its spread in the market. The study achieved maximum power coefficient of 0.3647 and energy of 361.8 kWh/year for a blade radius of 70 cm, a hub radius of10 cm and wind speed of 9 m/s with Weibull distribution parameters A=4.5 and k=2 and the used airfoils are S835 and S834. The results showed a direct and fast approach for designing an efficient SWT and this makes the SWT an economic solution that eases the transition towards a more sustainable world.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"777 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113995411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach requires careful consideration of the wake interactions and possible increase in turbine loads. This study presents variations in turbulence intensity with changing freestream wind speed, as turbine wakes travel down a large array of turbines. The study incorporates the Park and Law’s modification of the popular Jensen’s wake model, into Frandsen’s simplified “wake turbulence” model to model and analyze these TI variations in a hexagonal farm layout which is known to accommodate the greatest number of turbines for a given farm area. The results show that larger turbine-to-turbine separation distances in the longitudinal direction is likely to promote a quicker saturation of turbulence intensities downstream compared to smaller turbine-to-turbine distances. The implication of this in a scenario where increased farm density is also a priority is that such large turbine-to-turbine spacings must be restricted to some but not all wind directions. From the study, a hexagonal layout will be a good option.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"260 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115889574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a hybrid AC/DC microgrid to reduce the processes of multiple conversions in an individual AC or DC microgrid. In this paper, a new method of the supervisory controller is proposed to autonomously control and monitor for an islanded microgrid and to maintaining more stable energy flows with maximum utilization of renewable resources. The supervisory controller enables the microgrid system to operate in different modes of operation by the coordination control algorithms in the different components for smooth transfer of power between AC and DC networks. With the energy management option of the supervisory controller, this supervisor also provides an efficient load scheduling method to meet varying power supply needs and manage the sources and allow the microgrid to make a good operation and decisions. Therefore, in this paper, an islanded AC/DC microgrid has been modeled and simulated to identify the relevant technical issues involved in the operation of a microgrid system based on renewable power generation units using MATLAB/Simulink, and a new method of an energy management system is proposed for monitoring the islanded microgrid.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124272921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The estimation of State of Charge (SoC) and terminal voltage of the battery is derived through Coulomb counting and Extended Kalman filter for constant current discharge under a Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) cycle. The parameters required for the state space model are determined experimentally for different discharge currents of a single cell. The design of battery pack for different power requirements like two, three and four-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs) from these 18650 cells is deduced and the performance indices are estimated based on an UDDS cycle.
