Using the generalized perturbation reduction method, the nonlinear wave equation is reduced to the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations. It is shown that the second-order derivatives play a key role in the description of the process of formation of the bound state of two breathers oscillating with the sum and the difference of frequencies and wave numbers. The resonant, nonresonant and hybrid mechanisms of the formation of the two-component nonlinear pulse -- the vector breather are realized depending on the light and medium parameters. Explicit analytical expressions for the profile and parameters of the nonlinear pulse are presented. The conditions of the excitation of resonant, nonresonant and hybrid nonlinear waves are discussed. In the particular case, the resonant vector breather coincides with the vector $0pi$ pulse of self-induced transparency.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130260238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To find the solution with a high accuracy we use two-step numerical method combining the Petviashvili iteration procedure and the Newton-Kantorovich method. The vortex soliton with the topological charge $m=1$ turns out to be stable provided the nonlinear frequency shift exceeds a certain critical value. We add to the equation a weak controlled pumping term and start adiabatic evolution of turbulence from statistically homogeneous Gaussian noise. After reaching a certain level of average intensity, we switch off the pumping and realize that the \"grown up\" turbulence is statistically stationary. We measure its Fourier spectrum, the probability density function (PDF) of intensity and the autocorrelation of intensity. Additionally, we show that, being adiabatic, our method produces stationary states of the integrable turbulence for the intermediate moments of pumping as well. Presently, we consider only the turbulence of relatively small level of nonlinearity; however, even this \"moderate\" turbulence is characterized by enhanced generation of rogue waves.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123313504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such memories amongst engineers have promoted this attitude that the shear walls structures exhibit a brittle overall performance. So the conviction that shear walls are inherently brittle still prevails amongst engineers, and therefore, they usually prefer to choose moment-resisting RC frames without shear walls. For getting an insight into the nonlinear behavior of RC shear walls, we have reviewed the experiments conducted on the RC shear walls. Besides, through using the post-earthquake reports written after major earthquakes, we have checked and scrutinized the seismic performance of RC frames equipped with shear walls too. Investigations performed on the nonlinear behavior of the shear walls have demonstrated that slender shear walls, designed to fail in flexural mode, could safely dissipate excitations energy of the earthquakes. These studies also revealed that even squat shear walls can be designed in a way that their behavior would be similar to those of the slender walls. Considering these matters, designed shear walls according to the recent codes maintain sufficient shear strength and respectable energy dissipation capability.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115492579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In equilibrium condensates only quantum vortices of unit topological charge are stable, due to the dynamical instabilities of multiply charged defects, unless supported by strong external rotation. Due to immense fundamental interest in the physics of these fundamental topological excitations, a great deal of work has been expended towards understanding ways to force their stability. Here we show that in photonic Bose-Einstein condensates of exciton-polariton quasiparticles pumped in an annular geometry, not only do the constant particle fluxes intrinsic to the system naturally stabilize multiply charged vortex states, but that such states can indeed form spontaneously during the condensate formation through a dynamical symmetry breaking mechanism. We elucidate the properties of these novel states, notably finding that they radiate acoustically, in a process analogous to the emission of gravitational waves from binary black holes. Finally, we show that the vorticity of these photonic fluids are fundamentally limited by a quantum Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, and therefore by the condensate radius and pumping intensity. This represents the first report of this instability - deeply fundamental in fluid dynamics - in a quantum photonic fluid.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127847197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of the shape on the motion is examined by the perturbation method. We introduce a slight $n$-mode modification from a circle, where the profile is described by $r = R(1 + epsilon cos ntheta)$ in polar coordinates. The results predict that a camphor particle with an $n=3$ mode modification from a circle, i.e., a triangular modification, moves in the direction of a corner for a small particle, while it moves in the direction of a side for a large particle. The numerical simulation results well reproduce the theoretical prediction. The present study will help understand the effect of the particle shape on spontaneous motion.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125410917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frustration is provided by the presence of both ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic interactions between adjacent magnetic moments defined on the lattice nodes. At the critical value of the frustration $f=f_{cr}=3/4$ such a systems displays the phase transition from the ordered ferromagnetic state to the disordered frustration regime characterized by the highly-degenerated ground state. In the frustrated regime, $f_{cr}< f leq 1$, unexpected scaling of spatially averaged magnetization $langle vec{M} rangle $ on the total number of nodes,$N$, i.e. $langle vec{M} rangle simeq N^{-1/4}$, has been obtained. Such scaling is provided by highly anisotropic magnetic patterns displaying the ferromagnetic ordering along the $y$-direction, and short-range correlations of magnetic moments along the $x$-direction. We conjecture that all these intriguing features are explained by the presence of the double-degenerated ground state in the basic cell, i.e. single triangle, of the kagome lattice accompanying a large amount of intrinsic constraints. We anticipate the implementation of the phase transition and anisotropic magnetic patterns in various systems, e.g. natural magnetic molecular clusters, artificially prepared Josephson junctions networks, trapped-ions and/or photonic crystals.","PeriodicalId":154515,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: Pattern Formation and Solitons","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131383853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
