A novel piston-like diaphragm with a hard core fixed at the center is used as the sensing element. Theoretical analysis shows that the Young's modulus of the diaphragm and the radius of the hard core have significant effect on the pressure sensitivity. Experiments are carried out to test this effect and the performance of the hydrophone. The static measurement result is in good agreement with the theoretical result and an acoustic sensitivity of 7 nm/MPa has been achieved.","PeriodicalId":154236,"journal":{"name":"2008 1st Asia-Pacific Optical Fiber Sensors Conference","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127235993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reports the research results on the measurement of frequency shift characteristics of Mach-Zehnder electro-optic intensity modulator. Two measurement methods of frequency shift characteristics for high and low frequency modulations lead to different results, which are studied in theory and experiment. The realization of a multi-wavelength optical source based on Mach-Zehnder electro-optic intensity modulator has been introduced. The technique to reach the maximum intensity for interesting shift frequency, particularly for heterodyne detection of Brillouin distributed optical fiber sensing, has been given.","PeriodicalId":154236,"journal":{"name":"2008 1st Asia-Pacific Optical Fiber Sensors Conference","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133457670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It proposes a new design of light path of the sensor head. Both methods of dual-channel optical detection of the polarization state of the output light and signal processing are proposed. Signal processing can obtain the linearly output of the current measured of the wire more conveniently. Theoretically analysis on the magneto-optical fiber current sensor is given, followed by experiments to compare. After that, further analysis is made according to the results, which leads to clarify the exiting problems and their placements. The F-P sensor was made by two face to face single-mode optical fibers and their surfaces have been polished. Due to the low reflectivity of the fiber surfaces, the sensor was described as low Fresnel FPI. The working principle was analyzed using two-beam optical interference approximation. To measure the temperature, a certain temperature sensitive material was filled in the cavity. The slight changes of the reflective intensity which induced by the refractive index of the material was caught by OTDR. The length of the cavity was obtained by monitor the interference spectrum which is used for the setting of the sensor static characteristics within the quasi-linear range. Based on our design, a three point sensor array were fabricated and characterized. The experimental results show that with the temperature increasing from -30°C to 80°C, the reflectivity increased in a good linear manner. The sensitivity was approximate 0.074 dB/ °C. For the low transmission loss, more sensors can be integrated.","PeriodicalId":154236,"journal":{"name":"2008 1st Asia-Pacific Optical Fiber Sensors Conference","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133695037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the feedback intensity exceeds critical amount, excess noise would be induced in the demodulator. The maximum tolerable intensity back-reflection coefficient Rc and backscattering coefficient Sc into a fiber distributed feedback (DFB) laser with lead fiber length from 1 m~37.5 km before the onset of instabilities were shown. Rc was found to decrease with increasing lead fiber length while Sc was relatively invariable with varying fiber length. The coherent Rayleigh backscattering (CRBS) would induce neglectable noise with a lead fiber exceeding 13.5 km. To eliminate these noises, one or two isolators should be incorporated in the system.","PeriodicalId":154236,"journal":{"name":"2008 1st Asia-Pacific Optical Fiber Sensors Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114349633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
