Differing from existing results which mainly describe various asymptotic properties, this paper gives analytical formulas of estimating pair-wise error probabilities (PEP) of ZF and MMSE decoders for given parameters M, K (number of users), and ρ (Signal-to-Noise Ratio, SNR). Furthermore, a formula estimating MMSE decoder dB gain over ZF decoder is given. Based on this formula, an analytical formula calculating the gain when ρ goes to infinite is also presented, which is almost the same as one given in the paper. At last, simulations to confirm these formulas are shown.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133680720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two-step construction method of designing the AR4JA codes whose minimum distance grows linearly with block size, is proposed. Two-step expansion improves the traditional PEG with adding the ACE algorithm for placing edges in a protograph-based code, which brings down the error floor. Compared to the traditional random expansion and the one step expansion like Progressive Edge-Growth(PEG), the two-step construction algorithm aims at constructing the AR4JA codes with high performance and low complexity. Verified by the simulation, the BER performance of the two-step expansion method is similar to the ideal AR4JA codes in the deep space channel condition. With the same Eb/N0, the two-step construction method shows the lower BER than random construction method and one-step extension method through the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134118064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relay helps communication pairs in a probabilistic manner during several relaying slots. We formulate an optimization problem to find slot-sharing ratio maximizing an upper bound of the expected sum rate while the upper bound of each user's rate satisfying a predetermined target for the given number of relaying slots. An exact optimal value of slot-sharing ratio is provided by using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. And we propose an algorithm to search the optimal number of relaying slots. In addition, the cost of sensors is constantly decreasing making it possible to use large quantities of these sensors in a wide variety of important applications in environmental, military, commercial, health care, and other fields. In order to monitor certain types of infrastructures. Many of these applications involve lining up the sensors in a linear form, making a special class of these networks which are defined in this work as Linear Sensor Networks (LSNs). In a previous paper, we introduced the concept of LSNs along with a classification of the different types of LSNs, a sample of their applications and the motivation for designing specialized protocols that take advantage of the linearity of the network to enhance their communication efficiency, reliability, fault tolerance, energy savings, and network lifetime. This paper presents a distributed topology discovery algorithm for a hierarchical two-level LSNs. New definitions for important structure and design parameters are introduced. The proposed protocol allows the nodes to construct an ordered list of the nodes in the network which can be used to create an efficient routing table. In addition, it would be useful for simplifying, and enhancing the reliability and robustness of the routing process by taking advantage of the linear alignments of the nodes. Furthermore, the protocol does not require the nodes to have location detection capabilities such as GPS, which would lead to a more complex design and higher cost of the sensor nodes.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124938201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A real seamless mobile environment is only realized by considering vertical and horizontal handoffs together. One of the major design issues in heterogeneous wireless networks is the support of vertical handoff (VHO). VHO occurs when a user with a multi-interface terminal changes connection from one type of wireless access technology to another while maintaining an active session. In this paper we present a novel multi-criteria VHO algorithm, which chooses the target NAT based on the several factors such as user preferences, system parameters and QoS requirements for different traffic classes. Two modules i.e., VHO Necessity Estimation (VHONE) module and target NAT selection module, are designed. Both modules function based on weighting the different users' and system's parameters. To improve the robustness of our algorithm, the weighting system is designed based on the concept of fuzzy linguistic variables.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127796733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the focus is on the case when there are two clusters and each cluster has two users that wish to exchange messages within the cluster with the help of the relay. It is assumed that the relay has N antennas and each of the users has M antennas. A DoF outerbound is derived and it is shown that for several scenarios of interests the DoF outerbound can be achieved. Specifically, when N ≤ M, a network coding based two-way relaying approach with time division multiplex access (TDMA) is sufficient to achieve the DoF outerbound. When M <; N ≤ 4/3M, the signal space alignment with multiple access and broadcast transmission between the clusters can achieve the DoF outerbound. It is also show that when N ≥ 4M, the DoF outerbound can be achieved by just using multiple access and broadcast transmission between the users.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126484263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cognitive secondary users are initially assumed to perform channel sensing and then enter into data transmission phase. Under sensing uncertainty and Gaussian primary user interference assumptions, additive disturbance experienced at the secondary receiver is seen to have a Gaussian mixture density. Achievable rates under such assumptions are examined and a closed-form rate expression is determined. An outage capacity formulation is also derived. Finally, energy efficiency is analyzed by investigating the minimum energy per bit and wideband slope expressions in the low-SNR regime. Through this analysis, tradeoffs and interactions between sensing parameters, sensing performance, throughput, transmission energy, and energy efficiency are identified.","PeriodicalId":154082,"journal":{"name":"2012 1st IEEE International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127616834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
