In September 2019, in the lower reaches of the Don River, two specimens of a shrimp previously unknown for this river basin were recorded. The finding was made downstream of khutor Arpachin. The coordinates of the first finding location are as follows: N 47.258610°, E 40.166330°. The shape and armature of the rostrum, the proportions of the second pereopods, and a number of other morphological characteristics allowed the species to be identified as Macrobrachium nipponense (De Haan, 1849) (Decapoda, Crustacea, Palaemonidae). M. nipponense (De Haan, 1849), or oriental river prawn, is a subtropical shrimp, originated and widely distributed in Southeast Asia, including Japan, China, Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar and Taiwan. It is known that in the 1980–1990s in the temperate zones, this species was introduced into the cooling ponds of thermal power stations as a target of warm-water aquaculture. Several decades later, M. nipponense began to be observed outside the primary recipient reservoirs. The first findings of this genus were considered to be associated with long-distance migrations of this prawn. However, more recent data have shown that, at least in the south of the temperate zone, the prawns have formed stable populations outside warm water refugia. Finding of the oriental prawn in the Don River not only expands the known range of the species but also gives evidence for the continuation of the process of active expansion of M. nipponense through Eurasian water bodies.","PeriodicalId":152923,"journal":{"name":"Водные биоресурсы и среда обитания","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125913625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"BATHYMETRIC DISTRIBUTION OF СOMMON MOLLUSC SPECIES DEPENDING ON THE PROPERTIES OF SOFT SUBSTRATES NEAR THE COAST OF THE WESTERN CRIMEA","authors":"A. Petrov","doi":"10.47921/2619-1024_2022_5_3_69","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47921/2619-1024_2022_5_3_69","url":null,"abstract":". Up to the present day, the bathymetric distribution of zoobenthos under hydrodynamic load and subordinate changes in grain size composition and density of bottom substrate have not been fully investigated. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to evaluate the density of bottom sediments at different depths off the coast of the Western Crimea; 2) to calculate the pressure force exerted on substrate by the common species of bivalve molluscs (Veneridae); 3) to reveal the reasons for the changes in mollusc species composition due to differences in the properties of bottom sediments in different locations. According to the results of the underwater studies, strongly pronounced storm-induced re-sedimentation of sandy fractions is observed to the depth of 12–14 m. Sandy substrates with density of 4–8 conventional units (c. u.) are formed within this zone, and here prevails striped venus clam Chamelea gallina . These molluscs, characterized by a bulky shell (up to 30 mm) and high values of specific ground pressure (80– 90 mg/mm 2 ), can dwell near the dense sandy surface, avoiding contact with the subsurface redox layer located 6–10 cm deeper. At the depth of 16–25 m, the effect of storm hydrodynamics on the bottom weakens and only sandy aleurite fractions with density of up to 2.5 c. u. are getting re-sedimented. Sediment redox conditions develop at the depth of 4–5 cm. Within this zone, the most abundant species is rough pitar venus Pitar rudis , represented by the individuals with shells up to 13 mm in length and specific ground pressure of 35–40 mg/mm 2 , which allows the molluscs to stay on the surface of substrate and avoid the contact with the redox layer. At the depth of more than 27–30 m, during the storm-induced mixing processes, the sedimentation of small ground particles prevails over their horizontal transfer. In the grain size composition of the substrate, aleurite-pelitic fractions prevail, and redox layer develops deeper than 2.5 cm from the bottom surface. Only the thin surface layer consisting of loose silt with density of 0.8–1.0 c. u. remains suitable for habitation of macrozoobenthos; here, golden carpet shell Polititapes aureus , characterized by a thin shell and the lowest ground pressure (25–30 mg/mm 2 ), prevails in terms of abundance. The results of this investigation can facilitate the understanding of spatial distribution patterns and adaptive features of the most abundant macrobenthos species under the influence of key environmental factors.","PeriodicalId":152923,"journal":{"name":"Водные биоресурсы и среда обитания","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125293176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four groups of Artemia bottom eggs were identified: ext ernally whole cysts; cysts with a defective chorion (rounded, whole with breaks and irregularities on the shell surface); eggs without a chorion (orange, rounded or irregular in shape, soft); cysts and eggs with abnormal coloration (black or gray chorion). On average, the proportion of ext ernally whole cysts in lakes was 54.8 % (Cv=31.4 %); for the cysts with a defective chorion it was 28.9 % (Cv=47.7 %), and for the eggs without a chorion it was 13.7 % (Cv=77.2 %). Cysts with black and gray chorion coloration have been recorded in the muddy soils of the Yodnoe (Iodine) Lake (42.3 % of the total concentration of cysts in the lake), Kuchuk Lake, Malinovoe (Raspberry) Lake, Bolshoe (Big) Yarovoe Lake, Kulunda Lake, and Maloe (Small) Yarovoe Lake (1.8 %; Cv=111.8 %). The correlation between the proportion of externally whole cysts and the content of sand in the soil (r=0.229) has been proved; cysts and eggs of black and gray color have been recorded in silty soils or in the soils with a high content of silt (r=0.212). No cysts were found in salt deposits, and the concentration of externally whole Artemia cysts decreases in the soils with an admixture of salt (r=-0.213). The average hatching rate of nauplii from bottom cysts in lakes was 7.8 % (0–22 %).","PeriodicalId":152923,"journal":{"name":"Водные биоресурсы и среда обитания","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115591189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper considers the possibility of applying the thermohaline method (using the construction of T,S-diagrams) to determine the quasi-heterogeneity of water layers in the Azov Sea drawing on the expedition data obtained in 2016–2020. The diagrams allowing to identify a two-layer water structure in the aquatic environment of the Azov Sea (excluding the area of Taganrog Bay) have been constructed. The analysis of water stratification in the conditions close to the natural regime of the sea (thus, including salinity), as well as in the present conditions of its salinization, has been carried out. The data obtained through the analysis of sample observations have been verified with mathematical methods; the explanations from the standpoint of T,S-analysis of the aquatic environment have been presented. The hydrological features of the salt regime of the Azov Sea are given with the specification of the situations during the advection of the Black Sea waters, which precondition a stable separation of the waters in the southern part of the sea into surface and bottom “water masses”. These possibilities are justified mathematically, and for the modern period of considerable salinization of the sea, in accordance with the theory of T,S-analysis of water masses, a classification assessment of the aquatic environment is proposed.","PeriodicalId":152923,"journal":{"name":"Водные биоресурсы и среда обитания","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117226415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
