{"title":"The Self-Concept of Students Receiving Bidik Misi Scholarships at University of Jember","authors":"Belly Garniasih, Raudlatul Jannah","doi":"10.19184/jes.v7i2.16629","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19184/jes.v7i2.16629","url":null,"abstract":"One of the scholarship programs at the University of Jember, which annually provides a lot of quotas, is a scholarship through the Bidikmisi program, which is given to students who come from economically low-income families and a good history of achievement. As it is known that ideally, Bidikmisi students must behave, appear, and act according to the definition of Bidikmisi scholarship itself to prevent misunderstandings in the use of scholarship funds. But still, some Bidikmisi students at Jember University do not display the definition of 'ideal.' From this phenomenon, a question arises about 'Self-Concept of Bidikmisi Students at Jember University.' In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive approach, which aims to obtain information about the self-concepts of Bidikmisi students at Jember University. The theory used is symbolic interactionism by George Herbert Mead, where the theory explains that a person is seen as an actor who interprets, evaluates, defines, acts, and tells about the use of symbols as a form of interpretation in one's interactions with others or with groups. The symbols used cold become in the form of verbal or nonverbal. The results showed that there were two kinds of Bidikmisi students' self-concepts, namely positive concepts and negative concepts. Positive self-concept, namely (1) making parents proud, (2) getting high achievements and aspirations, (3) being responsible. Al-Irsyad Hospital is an Islamic hospital that involves 'Friends of Patients' who can provide spiritual needs even when needed to strengthen the patient's mind in the process of healing. The construction process carried out by Friends of Patients is not only for patients but also for all components of the hospital, especially for employees as an Islamic hospital culture. The theoretical framework of this study is the social construction of Peter L Berger and Thomas Luckman. This type of research is qualitative research and how to determine the informants in this study using purposive techniques. Retrieval of data using observation, interviews, and documentation. While the data validity test in this study uses data triangulation, the findings of this study indicate that there is a change in perspective regarding pain, among others, illness is a trial and test from God. Illness is a form of forgiveness of sins and errors of God. The disease also elevates human degrees. Risks are increasing because of the equator crossing Indonesia and the exploitation of nature by humans. These landscape characteristics, as well as the potential for flash floods and landslides, are also found in the Kalijompo Plantation, Jember Regency. thus alertness to disaster is needed. This research was conducted to describe and analyze institutions in alert to flash floods and landslides in the Kalijompo Plantation, Jember Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach through conducting interviews, documentation, and observation. Anthony Giddens' agency theory is borrowed as a theoretical approach. The findings of this study are agencies acting as facilitators, provocateurs, and motivators in disaster alertness. Using a qualitative research design, researchers found that organic farmers face many challenges in managing their organic agriculture. For this reason, they must develop and ensure the sustainability of organic farming. Efforts to build farmers' knowledge in maintaining organic farming were established and influenced by the success of the strategies they used. By using qualitative descriptive methods, data are collected through interviews, direct observation, and literature study. The theory used for the analysis is Ecofeminism Vandana Shiva. The researcher is also participatory in the rejection action. The results showed that women were involved in this environmental movement of their own volition. Most of the women who participated in the campaign had a low level of education. Their involvement is based on concerns over the loss of their family's source of income and life. {"title":"Social Construction of Hafidzah Al Qur'an in Jember District","authors":"Wardatur Rochmah Masykuroh, Raudlatul Jannah","doi":"10.19184/jes.v7i1.16636","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19184/jes.v7i1.16636","url":null,"abstract":"Qur’an memorizer or commonly known as Hafidz Qur’an is currently getting quite intense attention from Moslem society in Indonesia, especially Moslem society in Jember. This positive acceptance can be seen from the development of tahfidz Qur’an program in various educational institutions in Jember and the number of educational scholarship offered to students who memorized Qur’an. This study aims to explain the social construction of the Hafidzah Qur’an in Jember with the use of constructivism method. The theory used is social construction that explains the formation of a society based on the knowledge they have through three simultaneous processes, namely, externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The result of this study is that the social construction of the moslem community in Jember shows positive acceptance of hafidzah Qur’an. It began with an externalizing moment when people found out about hafidz Qur’an through Islamic studies and television programs. The method used is a qualitative method with a feminist social science approach. The researcher selects the informants by using purposive techniques, with the criteria of workers who have worked in factories at least one year. Data collection techniques are done by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data using triangulation techniques. The analysis technique uses the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The theory used is the Marxist / Socialist feminist theory. The results of the study show that: 1) In a work distribution system because women are considered to have a cautious nature, they are given easy jobs, but require accuracy, while work for men requires heavy work. 2) In the salary system, women are considered cheap labor, so they deserve a cheap salary. It is because the involvement of women in this work is only a side job. 3) Right to leave, the company does not distinguish between leave rights for male and female workers. However, workers who were given leave did not receive a replacement salary. 4) Promotion of position. Anyone can obtain the development of jobs by the requirements for appointment. This behavior results from interactions with the environment, especially with people who have consumed cigarettes. The main reasons teenagers smokes are curiosity in cigarettes and the desire to express men's identity through smoking. Families and peer groups generally provide a supportive environment for adolescents to smoke. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe smoking behavior in school-age children. The research method uses descriptive, qualitative methods with purposive sampling techniques. This study found that families permit adolescents to smoke, and their schools do not strictly regulate smoking. Besides, restrictions on working women based on customs and norms in the village make it difficult for women to find work. The view that women should focus on domestic and family matters. It limits women to work to help improve the family economy. Thus, empowerment for women through community empowerment group is needed to be able to carry out economic activities without having to leave their duties as a housewife. The theoretical framework of this study is the theory of liberal feminism gender based on women's freedom and equality. This study uses a qualitative method and purposive sampling. Data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation.
