Organic channels are any hydrocarbon based media. When organic channels are used to communicate data, they are termed Organic Communication Channels (OCCs). The accomplishments of Human Body Communication (HBC) in Body Area Networks (BANs) suggests OCCs’ great potential when applied to cyber-physical systems. For example, soil-based and vegetation-based OCCs can be integrated into IoF scenarios. However other OCCs are less studied. This paper characterizes vegetation-based and soil-based OCCs through analysis of channel measurements and derivation of path loss equations. Presented results suggest log-distance path median path loss models hold for herbaceous vegetation-based channels. Furthermore, the results suggest vegetation-based channels were more frequency-selective than the soil-based channels examined.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130150337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method builds on ideas from the previously-proposed GPRFSED method of Adams for grayscale images to produce a method that can handle RGB color images. The key ideas embodied in our CMG method are Floyd-Steinberg error diffusion with improved initial-condition selection and greedy-point removal. Through experimental results, our CMG method is shown to outperform several competing methods that are based on a straightforward extension of grayscale mesh generators to color, with our method yielding meshes of vastly better quality at lower or comparable computational/memory cost.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114986116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, for travelers, it is important to select sightseeing places and plan an appropriate route to them. There are many studies on recommendation systems for sightseeing places and their routes. However, in these conventional studies, there is a problem that the information of a place that is reluctantly visited by a traveler, such as on a business trip, becomes noise and, as a result, it might cause a recommendation system to suggest a sightseeing place that does not match the interests of the traveler. In addition, in general, it is difficult to form a good recommendation unless a large-scale data set of sightseeing places is collected and each location is actively evaluated by many users. In this study, we propose a method for extracting users’ preferences based on the behavior of taking and editing photos of sightseeing places. The feature of our method is that it calculates the degrees of interest in photos that are actually taken by a user by counting the numbers of pictures and editing processes such as color adjustments and clipping, which are regarded as a part of the users’ behavior of taking and editing photos of sightseeing places. This is done for the purpose of providing recommendations of sightseeing places. By associating the result of the content analysis of the sightseeing place photos with the degrees of a user’s interest in the photos, it would be possible to extract the user’s preferences from the sightseeing place photos. The feasibility of the proposed method is evaluated by several experiments using a prototype of our system.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131906507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ethernet devices transmit the data from a source to a receiver while the receiver has no statistics regarding the transmission channel. In this era of global transmission where the upcoming communication technology will be equipped with self optimized transmission under which there will be minimum errors. The need to gather information related to the transmission path arises. The primary objective of this research paper is to evaluate the different P4 parameters on optical media. P4 enabled NIC’s, corresponding FPGA Images and traditional Ethernet switches were used for the results. INT- SDN P4 packets were transmitted and the comprehensive test traces were captured and examined. DPDK was used which provides the foundation for P4 packet forwarding. Data, as well as the control plane were fully configurable in the hardware setup which resulted in speedier data transmission and also enhanced the packet efficiency at higher data rates. Metrics such as latency, throughput, data rates and efficiency were accumulated, compared and analyzed on P4 based optical network having a 40 Gbps data transmission rate. Moreover, the inside story of the optical channel was gathered which will provide further insights related to the P4 transmission medium.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125221388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assuming that channel state information is available at the base station, the users are first partitioned into small clusters based on a weighted multi-objective optimization, so that each cluster may be served by a single beamforming vector. The complete set of beamforming vectors is jointly designed to remove inter-cluster interference by taking advantage of block diagonalization along with maximum ratio transmission. Subsequently, the NOMA power allocation factors for the users in each cluster are determined by solving an optimization problem, where the aim is to maximize the transmission sum rate subject to power and SINR constraints. The performance of the proposed NOMA scheme is validated by means of numerical analysis. Compared to the benchmark approaches, the results show significant improvements in terms of spectral efficiency and interference cancellation.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134397107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new oil-based hydraulic artificial muscle (OHAM) with a bio-inspired configuration is presented. The common parts in traditional pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) like compressors, pumps and tanks are replaced with linear actuator and cylinders which makes the platform of the OHAM more compact. Moreover, a phenomenological model is used for the dynamic modeling of the OHAM in the static and dynamic states. Then, a new program in LabVIEW software is developed for the signal processing of the system which helps applicants visualize every aspect of the experimental tests, including hardware configuration, data measurement, and troubleshooting. Additionally, characteristics of the OHAM are determined by the implementation of experimental tests for a single artificial muscle. Finally, the bio-inspired configuration is implemented in order to demonstrate the usefulness of the hardware and software of OHAMs in an opposing pair configuration.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114668504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dynamic power is a challenging source of power dissipation for dynamic logic. Dynamic power is affected by output transition rate. The more the output transition rate, the more the dynamic power is consumed. This paper proposes a new technique to reduce dynamic power based on reducing output transition rate. The new proposed technique permits only one output transition for similar consecutive input patterns. The proposed technique is proved to be very effective when input patterns are fixed for consecutive number of clock cycles as in grey code. An isolator is used to isolate last valid output to avoid output corruption due to reducing output transition rate. Experimental results on TSMC 65 nm at 1 GHZ show the effectiveness of the proposed technique in reducing output transition rate, providing isolated valid output, and reducing dynamic power up to 60% of the original consumed power.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116263060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This feasibility study combines High Frequency (HF) radio via Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems with traditional imaging techniques in order to capture three-dimensional images of the atmosphere. An experiment is devised and the necessary instrumentation built in order to capture coherent images of the ionosphere. The experimental results show these three-dimensional images as well as a novel approach to measuring ionospheric height. The novelty of the research comes from the use of a closely spaced phased-array of radio antennas in conjunction with a post-correlation beamformer re-purposed from radio astronomy.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124261832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One important aspect of multipath transport is the selection of paths on a packet by packet basis. In particular, path switching may cause head of line blocking effects that may impact video rendering. In this work, we analyze the impact of path switching on multipath video streaming, and propose new path schedulers aimed at reducing path switching. We utilize network performance measures, as well as video quality metrics, to characterize new schedulers' performance improvements and interactions between network and application layers of video streams for various network scenarios.","PeriodicalId":152556,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (PACRIM)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128057584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
