According to the world and Ukrainian researchers’ study results, AI use in translation has not become widespread yet, despite the rapid tool development over the past 10 years. In addition, the Ukrainian translators technical competence issue improving still remains relevant. Entering the labour market, Ukrainian university graduates, majoring in translation, mostly have to master these technologies on their own, which significantly reduces their work efficiency and decreases the translation training quality compared to more progressive teaching methods in Western Europe, and the USA. The purpose research is to substantiate theoretically and practically the trends in AI technologies development in translation. The paper identifies the prerequisites for the AI use in translation and gives a three automated translation systems comparative analysis. It revealed the CAT-systems specific features, namely Trados, SmartCAT and MemoQ. The article analyzes such above-mentioned automated translation systems indicators as the manual and machine translation efficiency, functionality, the program availability for installation and mastering by a novice practitioner or student translator, as well as its interface design. Based on these indicators, the study defines the most effective CAT-system of teaching students the automated translation basics in the mastering translation skills process. The conducted analysis shows that it is worth using them only upon mastering the more user-friendly programs skills, e.g. the SmartCAT cloud system. It was figured out that this program is not inferior to Trados Studio and MemoQ. Apart from that, a built-in translation training system make the learning process more intuitive, which is a significant advantage to a novice translator.","PeriodicalId":151172,"journal":{"name":"Lviv Philological Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126730584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The starting point of the study is the fact that rendering English colloquial lexis into the Ukrainian language has a few peculiarities: namely, while choosing the correct variant the translator should take into account the pragmatic meaning of lexical unit. In other words, it’s important to find the colloquial unit in the translation language, which is not always easy. The difference between the two languages, their national and cultural peculiarities cause some translation transformations which take place in the process of rendering. The novelty of the study is proved by the complexity of translation of this very lexical layer of the vocabulary, which is one of the main components of lexical corpus of modern English and Ukrainian languages. One should also keep in mind that any language as a system of sound sighs appeared in a human society as a communicative means and was developing for a long time as a colloquial speech. The aim of the paper is to carry out lexical and grammatical translation transformations of colloquial lexis in modern English film discourse in Ukrainian dubbing of films about Marvel superheroes. It is defined that the most effective way of rendering English colloquial units is choosing their right functional variant, which represent their stylistic adequateness. From the functional perspective rendering colloquial lexis in English film discourse into Ukrainian is performed by means of translation transformations, special adaptations at lexical and grammatical language levels, which include antonymic translation, total rearrangement and compensation. It is proved that total rearrangement (16.7%) is the most frequently used for rendering slang, jargon, phrasal verbs and cursed words, the role of which is determined by the imagery and partial equivalence of such vocabulary.","PeriodicalId":151172,"journal":{"name":"Lviv Philological Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129709816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
