Medium and large mammals are continually affected by these factors. In this context, we conducted an inventory and estimated the abundance of medium and large mammals in a particular peri-urban remnant forest in the city of Porto, Rondônia. Fieldwork was carried out involving 88 kilometers of census during the daytime, indirect signs research, and interviews. We recorded 21 species of mammals. For the Neotropical region there is deficiency in knowledge about hunting behavior, affected species and other aspects that allow a better understanding of the effects on local biodiversity. In this study, we made an approximation of cases of mortality of wildlife by domestic cats in the Colombian Caribbean Region. We found 107 hunting records, belonging to 31 species belonging to 24 families, 12 orders and three classes of vertebrates Amphibia, Sauropsida and Mammalia. The most affected species correspond to Cnemidophorus sp (31 cases), Columbina talcopati (16 cases) and Cnemidophorus gaigei (10 cases). Additionally, we found a hunting record of a migratory species, Porzana carolina, and two subspecies of endemic reptiles from the Colombian Caribbean region, Erythrolamprus melanotus lamari and Ameiva bifrontata divisa. These records become the first reported for Colombia, warning by the quantity and taxonomic spectrum of the potential impact that it may be generating on wildlife and its ecosystem services.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122805073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El espécimen de O. variegatus se observó y fotografió en una localidad con vegetación xerófita. La subsistencia de esta especie en la localidad podría deberse a la presencia de cultivos de maíz y alfalfa. Futuras investigaciones son necesarias para conocer su abundancia y sus relaciones ecológicas en el área.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128217427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Daily activity patterns are a crucial component of mammalian ecology and behavior, being temporal avoidance often the most important mechanism of coexistence among species. Animal’s daily activity patterns (temporal specialization) can be classified in diurnal, nocturnal, crepuscular or cathemeral. Temporal overlap alone does not define the vulnerability of the prey or the preference of the predator, since there must also be spatial segregation, which can alleviate possible hostile interactions among the animals. In this study, we test if there are any significant differences among the daily activity patterns of predators and prey. We used the camera-trapping data to test if the predator’s species have less occurrence than expected by chance on the trails. The study area is the Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos (PARNASO). C-score is used to determine the spatial segregation and the exact test to determine the temporal segregation between predators and prey. Our results suggest spatial segregation among predators and prey in PARNASO. Also, the exact test showed that predators have cathemeral activity while prey are mainly nocturnal, as expected, probably to avoid predators. Despite its importance, the theory of how predation affects species differences and diversity is much less developed than the competition theory, which shows that more studies like this one need to be done","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129728404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En los últimos cinco años, ha habido un aumento del número de especies de mamíferos descritas como nuevas en Colombia, así como primeros registros y cambios taxonómicos. Con el fin de actualizar la información de las especies de mamíferos de Colombia, realizamos una revisión exhaustiva de los cambios taxonómicos de las 528 especies registradas en listas previas. Agregamos nuevas especies descritas, así como nuevos registros de especies ya descritas. Discutimos especies cuya presencia ha sido sugerida recientemente en Colombia, pero que no es respaldada por especímenes de museo. La lista actual de mamíferos en Colombia tiene 543 especies, con cuatro descritas en el último año. Esperamos que la lista sea una herramienta apoyar las necesidades de investigación, en especial las extensiones de distribución, los problemas taxonómicos y la conservación de los mamíferos del país.
