Indeed, both building material choice and the principles of the manner in which those materials are brought together are the result of geographical opportunities and cultural accumulation. Artvin, located within the borders of the Eastern Black Sea Department, is influenced by a humid Black Sea climate and forests constituting the largest natural flora group. Wood, therefore, is the most common building material used in residential construction. In some parts of the province, there are dwellings that use wood as the only building material. In these dwellings, wooden logs are stacked on top of each other in processed or semi-processed shapes. The most important step in this method, known as wood masonry/piling, is the process of attaching wooden materials to each other from the corners. The defining feature of these dwellings is the interlocking of wood using notches and grooves but not nails. Wooden masonry dwellings struggle to survive both migration from rural areas and the introduction of new construction materials and techniques. However, these dwellings are important components of the region’s cultural heritage. In this context, it is highly important to protect them so that their legacy can be left to future generations. One of the most rational ways of achieving this would be to transform these dwellings into both tourist attractions and tourist accommodation. This study, was aimed at contributing to the formation of awareness about the importance of these rural dwellings and their conservation, as well as at contributing to tourism development planning at the local family administration and management levels.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124293427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the uncontrolled exploitation of wetlands and disregarding the balance between preservation and utilization, deteriorations can be occurred in ecosystems. One of the areas where such degradations have been experienced, is the wetland area of the Gölhisar Lake, which is located on the Burdur-Fethiye fault zone trending NE-SW in the Western Mediterranean Basin, southwest of the Lakes Region. Gölhisar Lake has a rich habitat in terms of flora and fauna. However, the decrease of the lake surface as a result of the plant infestation, increase in agricultural activities around the area and changes observed on the water level have been damaged the ecological balance. The aim of this study is to examine the ecosystem characteristics of the lake and to suggest solutions for the sustainable use and management of natural resources. Within this scope, ArcGIS 10.4 programme has been used for gathering and evaluating geographical data of the lake area and current problems have been identified by field observations. Unplanned water and land use made in and around the lake area with different demands and practices appears as the primary concern for the future of the lake and it has been revealed that the surface of the lake is about to dry and ecosystems in the lake and it circles have been negatively affected.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123252062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the different disciplines within the social sciences, there has been no unity in culture. According to Durkheim, one of the important names in the science of sociology, culture is a whole that societies create in their own dynamics (Alver, 2010). According to Archaeologist Smith, culture is characterized as the learning process of societies (Çağırkan,2017:149). According to geographers, culture is the values that man produces with him against nature (Tanrıkulu,2015: 473). Cultural heritage in cultural geography is the sources that have universal values that people transfer from past to present (Diker ve Deniz,2017: 10). The roads and routes within theseheritage and the caravanserais on these roads are among the important actors of the cultural heritage. Throughout history, the concept of location and road were evaluated together. Roads were used as a means to link geographical, cultural and economic values (Bakırcı, 2014: 63). Caravanserais, in the regions where people from different cultures come together, culturally influenced by each other and affected each other to create environments (Alkan, 2016: 145). Nevertheless, it is inevitable that spaces have an impact on human behavior. Different socio-cultural characteristics of people affect their perception of space (Başkaya, Dinç and Karakaşlı, et al., 2003: 81). The places where caravanserais were built were geographically accessible areas. The areas on which they were built grew rapidly, economically, commercially and culturally, and turned into a gate of gain for the nearby settlements.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128773164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Harput is the source of Elazığ’s local identity, cultural values, historical roots, and architectural codes. The current city of Elazığ, born from Harput, was formed by moving the inhabitants of Harput to the Elazig Plain. However, Harput began to lose importance in terms of all aspects due to the abandonment or relocation and the new generation is unaware of Harput’s culture. This might be considered as a prodigious loss in terms of our culture and values and injustice for future generations. Harput ‘s culture, folklore, lifestyle, traditions, historical figures, and architectural features can only be understood and explained in Harput. Today, TV series and movies are important media tools and destinations are now used in TV series and films as a product. The aim of this study is to reveal the characteristics of Harput which may be subject to the film industry. To this end, the geographical characteristics of Harput, the mansions located in Harput, its local music style, and its historical figures were examined. This study, which consisted of a literature review and field observations, revealed Harput’s physical and human geography characteristics in terms of film tourism.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116838365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
