(2021), in the section entitled ‘3.1 Parameter estimates’, there was an error in the reporting of the standard deviation of the log-normal distribution. The first sentence currently reads as follows:</p><p>‘The best-fitting distribution to the serial intervals recorded from Serengeti District, northern Tanzania was a log-normal with mu and sigma parameters of 2.80 and 0.97, respectively, corresponding to a mean interval of 26.3 days with a standard deviation of 25.4 days (Figure S2a)’.</p><p>It should read as follows:</p><p>‘The best-fitting distribution to the serial intervals recorded from Serengeti District, northern Tanzania was a log-normal with mu and sigma parameters of 2.80 and 0.97, respectively, corresponding to a mean interval of 26.3 days with a standard deviation of 32.7 days (Figure S2a)’.</p><p>This was a typing error and does not affect any of the results or conclusions that are presented within the paper.</p><p>In addition, there are some minor updates to the Supporting Information Figures S4 and S5. The references to the mixture models have been removed, as issues were identified in the fitting of these models.
