However, most research work has focused on protocols or on specific applications. As a result, there remains a clear lack of effective, feasible and usable system architectures that address both functional and non-functional requirements in an integrated fashion. In this paper, we outline the EMMON system architecture for large-scale, dense, real-time embedded monitoring. EMMON provides a hierarchical communication architecture together with integrated middleware and command and control software. It has been designed to use standard commercially-available technologies, while maintaining as much flexibility as possible to meet specific applications requirements. The EMMON architecture has been validated through extensive simulation and experimental evaluation, including a 300+ node test-bed, which is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest single-site WSN test-bed in Europe to date.","PeriodicalId":147957,"journal":{"name":"2011 IFIP 9th International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125533268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the heterogeneity of devices and tight coupling of individual information systems, the developers cannot easily create their specific applications by combining with physical and web resources. In this paper, we proposed Rest Thing which is a restful web service infrastructure based on REST principles in order to hide the heterogeneity of devices and provide a seamless way to integrate embedded devices with existing web applications. Besides, we implemented a prototyping system, which provided the restful accessible way of the wireless sensors, and built a demo application on the smart phone to collect and merge physical and web resources. Thus, these applications will provide the expected user-level QoS. When starting a multimedia application, the proposed framework provides admission control services for CPU reservation on all the devices used. The reservations are handled by broker components. The brokers use underlying operating system's mechanisms to start and stop reservations. Classically, devices of the home network make use of a General Purpose Operating System such as Linux. A lot of work has been done to integrate real-time schedulers in Linux or to provide distributed resource management frameworks. However it exists no solution that estimates, reserves and guarantees the quantity of CPU for multimedia applications. Moreover, modifying the devices' operating system may not be possible. Hence we propose a framework that supports both the standard Linux kernel and classical real-time scheduler. We evaluate the CPU resource management framework by testing multimedia applications, together with a stress on the CPU, on PCs and embedded devices (beagle boards).","PeriodicalId":147957,"journal":{"name":"2011 IFIP 9th International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128991732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A group of vertices with high intra-connection and sparse inter-connection is called community. In this paper, we propose a novel method for community detection in networks, which works better in time and precision compared to similar methods. The proposed method is able to detect communities of a wide variety of networks with different properties. This method is an agglomerative parallel algorithm. Also it can find multiple communities and exchange the nodes between detected communities simultaneously. It has utilized local modularity for constructing the communities. After all, genetic algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the proposed method. The algorithm is evaluated by modularity metric and shows a noticeable good precision. Also it has used simulated annealing to maximize the modularity.","PeriodicalId":147957,"journal":{"name":"2011 IFIP 9th International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"69 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130062914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its performance may vary when a low-dimensional embedding results in a graph with void regions and local minima locations. Our contributions include: (a) an examination of the effects of clustering on influencing routing near void regions and overcoming problems with local minima, (b) a generic framework for enabling a cluster view for greedy routes, that can work with any low-dimensional embedding, and (c) a quantitative evaluation of the performance improvement we achieve, using some reference clustering approaches, over a number of virtual coordinate systems for geometric routing.","PeriodicalId":147957,"journal":{"name":"2011 IFIP 9th International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131037171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the traditional distributed coding strategy may cause serious \"cliff effect\" in the decoding process, that is to say, few source data can be recovered before sufficient encoded packets are received. Moreover, nodes may fail due to the lack of energy or the influence of the switching of external environment, such as a disaster scenario. Such failures may concentrate in a small region or distribute in the whole deployment area which can severely reduced the decoding efficiency of the persistent data in WSN. In this paper, we propose the PLTCDS (prioritized LT codes based distributed storage) algorithm to improve the data decoding efficiency when the data persistence is assured. The main idea of PLTCDS is that the predefined node broadcasts a beacon to stimulate the nodes to form the network with degree distribution priority. To ensure the effectiveness of storage nodes, PLTCDS introduces a class of cumulative counter scheme to avoid empty storage. Also we discuss about the idea of another type of PLTCDS. Experimental results show that PLTCDS algorithm can enhance the network data collection performance and reduce the influence of \"cliff effect\".","PeriodicalId":147957,"journal":{"name":"2011 IFIP 9th International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122526600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
