To this end, eighteen eggs labels were collected directly from commercial establishments in a way that ensured representation of all different production systems (furnished cages, deep litter, free-range and organic), as well as the hen and quail species. The study showed a high fulfilment of the mandatory parameters in hen eggs, with a few flaws in the storage recommendations and the egg classification of some of the free-range eggs. Likewise, many of the optional parameters were met in all the production systems noted. In quail eggs, important deficiencies were found regarding the mandatory information showed in their labels; these were unjustified omissions from a legal point of view. Finally, a proposal for implementing a labelling guide for the fresh eggs produced and marketed in Canary Islands is made that fulfils the current legislation and the specific needs in the marketing of these products.","PeriodicalId":14771,"journal":{"name":"Journal Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Research","volume":"56 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91147803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: (i) To prepare a clinical review of ceftriaxone. (ii) To describe/analyse the profile of cephalosporins consumed in outpatient clinics by Portuguese districts in 2015. (iii) To identify/analyse the safety alerts of ceftriaxone issued by the National and European Medicines (EMA) Agencies. Methods: Diverse sources were accessed, namely PubMed and Micromedex. The report of INFARMED, I.P. on the consumption of cephalosporins in Portugal and the safety alerts of ceftriaxone on the website of INFARMED, I.P. and the EMA were consulted. Results: The clinical review was developed. The districts of Lisbon, Coimbra, Portalegre, Porto and Leiria presented consumptions above the national average (21.25 DHD). Ceftriaxone was the second most commonly used cephalosporin in this group. Only two informative circulars of INFARMED, I.P. on the safety of ceftriaxone were identified. Both circulars were based on the benefit risk assessments of EMA. Conclusion: The efficacy and safety profile of ceftriaxone remains favourable. It is possible that this antibiotic may be prescribed outside the scope of its therapeutic indications, considering the significant differences in its consumption among some Portuguese districts. Thus, monitoring for the appearance of bacterial resistance is critical.","PeriodicalId":14771,"journal":{"name":"Journal Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Research","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78694388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is beneficial for pregnant women to have a fractionated alimentation, as it minimizes symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum and reduces the increased risk of hypoglycemia. The objective of this study was the preparation of three cereal bars, each one suitable for a trimester of pregnancy for pregnant women without known nutritional deficiency or pathology. Three cereal bars with a common base were obtained, to which were added nutritionally adequate ingredients for the nutritional needs of each respective trimester. The bars respected the increase of the caloric intake during the pregnancy, but, in terms of micronutrients, it was verified that no micronutrient has reached the total Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) through the consumption of two cereal bars. Still, these bars may become important tools for adherence and maintenance of healthy alimentation by the pregnant woman.","PeriodicalId":14771,"journal":{"name":"Journal Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Research","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83218315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dorsiflexion is associated with functional walking performance, and its relation with microcirculation of lower limbs has not yet been addressed. In this study we explore the impact of dorsiflexion in the lower limb microcirculation with non-invasive technologies, as near as possible to the normal physiological state. Six (31 ± 9 years) healthy subjects were enrolled in this study after informed written consent. The experimental protocol consisted of 5 minutes standing, 1 minute of dorsiflexor muscle group contraction, and 5 minutes recovery in the initial position. Microcirculation was evaluated by photoplethysmography (PPG) and laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF). Pulse rate (PR) was obtained from PPG. Nonparametric statistics were used for phase comparisons. Dorsiflexion significantly modified the local perfusion, with PPG registering a decrease (p=0.028) while LDF registered an increase (p=0.028). PR did not change during the procedure. Foot dorsiflexion seems to cause different responses in the skin microvascular networks which might be attributed to the different measuring depths of the techniques employed, justifying further studies.","PeriodicalId":14771,"journal":{"name":"Journal Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Research","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79226652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
