The results from the model are shown to be in close agreement with a recently recorded GIC event. The model is then used to predict waveforms for a possible maximum GIC level combined with different power flows. The effect of this event on the currents going through the harmonic filters and the distorted waveforms on typical sequence filters is addressed.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121695514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this simple sensor model, the impacting particle generates a force pulse that has its shape influenced by the particle radius, density, impact velocity and modulus of elasticity. This force pulse can be estimated by analyzing the plate vibrations as measured by the transducer. A sensor based on this model could provide a number of particle characteristics in real time, and determine size distribution or perform particle discrimination by having a sample of the particle impact upon the sensor. The factors determining the generation of the force pulse and the thin plate's response to this pulse are discussed. A system model and analysis is then reviewed. Finally some considerations in the design of a sensor are examined.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132260176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The trial evolved from several smaller trials over the past few years, and includes the use of fiber optic broadband communications and multimedia networks. The trial provides broadband education, entertainment, and other interactive services, plus telemetry and alarms. The project follows SaskTel's long history of utilizing technological development to offer customers new services for the future. The services filled a gap in the education process by networking the home and school. The author expands on the details of the trial, providing information on the system design, available services, and results.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132275777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SaskPower has adopted harmonic limit standards along the guidelines proposed in the IEEE 519-1981 standard and revised in the IEEE 519-1991 standard. These limits are discussed and a detailed method is given to evaluate a customer's installation. Two example cases are presented including the evaluation of a gas pipeline compressor station installation and an oil field installation.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114547387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system includes supplementary DC control interacting with the conventional AC area controls. Taking advantage of the fast controllability of DC links, supplementary control utilizing DC power modulation could simultaneously improve system dynamic stability, reduce area control error, and reduce inadvertent energy interchange. The supplementary DC power modulation is based on variation of the net power interchange due to step load disturbances in one of the control areas. A linear model was used for the power system to study small changes around a base reference state and only the power-frequency control aspects of the overall power system control problems were considered. Eigenstructure analysis of the state space model of the power system was used to evaluate system stability. Control optimization was achieved by minimization of a performance index which is a function of the area control error (ACE). Computer simulation was used to obtain power system dynamic responses to step load disturbances and to estimate the optimal controller parameters.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117101000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The excitation system has an automatic frequency regulation (AFR) scheme and an automatic voltage regulation (AVR) scheme. The two regulation schemes act on the excitation currents independently to enable the DESG to supply power at constant frequency and constant terminal voltage while its rotor is driven at a variable speed. The authors describe the implementation of the excitation system and its performance when the AFR scheme is set to the AUTO control mode and the AVR scheme is set to the MANUAL control mode. Real-time results are presented showing the performance of the AFR scheme when the DESG is operating under different system disturbances for an operational slip range of +or- 10%. The results show that the excitation system is flexible, fast acting, and accurate. The steady-state error in the regulated output frequency is much less than 0.1%.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127445241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fault detection algorithm is based on the positive- and negative-sequence models of the synchronous machine. The algorithm uses voltages and currents at the generator terminals to detect the faults. The performance of the proposed algorithm was tested using data recorded from a laboratory generator which was subjected to a variety of internal and external faults. The results indicate that the algorithm effectively detects winding faults.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":146674,"journal":{"name":"IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122144050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Square root raised cosine roll-off prefiltering with a roll-off factor 0.35 is implemented using digital memory circuits. The same memory circuits are used to incorporate predistortion for the nonlinearity of the biphase attenuators. Although predistortion for the modulator only has been incorporated, the same circuit can be used to predistort for power amplifier nonlinearities. The modulator is suitable for silicon monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) implementation using digital and memory circuits on the same chip.
