In order to predict the remaining life of the austenitic stainless steel (12X18H12T), a metallographic analysis of the sigma phase percentage should be made. Following steel microstructure preparation, a series of microscopic digital images are used to measure this parameter. The digital images contain low amount of Gaussian noise and the sigma phase particles must be separated from all non-metal and other small-size or noise inclusions. Implementation of automated measurement leads to more accurate results and minimizes the subjective evaluation factors. A set of morphological features for each blob in a test group of blobs is analyzed using Kohonen self-organizing neural network after applying image filtering and blob detection algorithm. Self-organizing maps are used to filter the blobs. The achieved results are compared with those, obtained from the application of other metallographic methods for the same purpose.","PeriodicalId":146203,"journal":{"name":"2011 19th Mediterranean Conference on Control & Automation (MED)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124199042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is done by divers, with deployment of markers, poles, grids, etc. over the sea-bottom. Surveys with the traditional techniques require a considerable effort limiting the possibilities of multiple inspection surveys by the responsible agencies. Within the last ten years, ISME (Interuniversity Ctr. Integrated Systems for the Marine Environment) and SBAT (Italian Ministry of Culture, Superintendence of Archaeological Goods of Tuscany - Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici di Toscana) have worked toward automation of the survey process. The objective is the development of low-cost, easy-to-use and non-invasive systems to obtain a geo-referenced augmented map of a wreck site. During the VENUS project, funded by European Commission - Information Society Technologies (IST) and ended in 2010, UNIVPM - Università Politecnica delle Marche (ISME) and SBAT has worked together providing scientific methodologies and the technological tools for the virtual exploration of deep underwater archaeological sites. The VENUS project improved the accessibility of underwater sites by generating thorough and exhaustive 2D and 3D records for virtual exploration. UNIVPM's team and SBAT's team, following the work done in VENUS, in the last year (2010), have continued to develop new technologies and have validated techniques with other archaeological institutions. This paper presents the results obtained by UNIVPM's team within the Breaking the Surface 2010 Workshop4 (Murter, Croatia) in studying one famous cultural and historical heritage site in Kornati Archipelago. Several dives made on this site and a program of remote sensing using an AUV and an ROV with a camera was made. In addition to these explorations, a number of finds are been geo-localized and a final map has been created starting from the photomosaic of the sea-bottom. To this aim, different technological components are been developed or integrated, including a still camera for photogrammetric reconstruction of the site and an USBL acoustic positioning system. Crucial to the performance of the automated system has been the integration of the acoustic positioning system with the photo archive in the dive state estimation algorithm, in the design and definition of a specific data format used to store the data; in the geo-referentiation of the estimated position and in the determination of the geometrical features of the site. This positioning data will be effective also in facilitating excavation operations, allowing to focus the diving on the precise spot determined by the archaeologists after the geo-referenced surveys.","PeriodicalId":146203,"journal":{"name":"2011 19th Mediterranean Conference on Control & Automation (MED)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123560879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, sufficient conditions for polytopic uncertain continuous-time switched linear systems to be quadratically stabilizable via state feedback are summarized. Next, sufficient conditions for polytopic uncertain switched linear systems to be quadratically stabilizable via estimated state feedback are presented. The obtained result is an extension of the result of [14] to the polytopic uncertain subsystems with switched outputs. Further, a numerical example is also investigated.","PeriodicalId":146203,"journal":{"name":"2011 19th Mediterranean Conference on Control & Automation (MED)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121926462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is, the input of controlled system in current cycle is modified by using the PD strategy on the error achieved between the system output and the desired trajectory in the previous iteration. The convergence of the presented scheme is analyzed and an optimal design method is obtained to determine the PD learning coefficients. Furthermore a condition is achieved in terms of the system parameters so that the monotonic convergence of the presented method is guaranteed. Depending on the load current and the battery state of charge, the power management system decides the amount of the load power shared with each power source. The hybrid system operating power is divided into three categories which are named as Start-up state, Charging state and High power state based on the propulsion motor current. A unidirectional DC/DC power converter boosts the fuel cell system voltage and operates in voltage control mode or current control mode depending on the operating power state. Similarly, a bidirectional power converter is developed to boost the battery voltage to the DC bus voltage during the high power state. The bidirectional converter operates in buck mode during the charging power state. Based on the fuel cell current decided by the power management system, the fuel cell air supply system controller varies the inlet air pressure and flow rate to prevent the fuel cell oxygen concentration loss. The referenced model is used to obtain the optimum air pressure which produces maximum net power from the fuel cell system. Then, the air supply system is controlled to obtained the optimum pressure ratio and hence maximized the net power output. The fuel cell system power output with optimum compressure power is compared with the constant compressure power. The results shows that, the dynamic control of the air supply system with the power management decisions increase the fuel cell system net power output considerably.","PeriodicalId":146203,"journal":{"name":"2011 19th Mediterranean Conference on Control & Automation (MED)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128624838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
