Cobalt deprivations did not cause a considerable change in growth photosynthesis activity as compared to the control group. Induction of maximum lipid production was achieved using 0.001 mg L-1 of cobalt-deprived T. subcordiformis. The highest crude protein content (33.75 mg L-1) was observed in 0.001 mg L-1 cobalt. The highest and lowest lipid accumulation in T. subcordiformis was observed in 0.001 mg L-1 and 10 mg L-1 cobalt, respectively. Under cobalt deficient conditions, T. subcordiformis produced a large quantity of saturated fatty acids and the iodine and saponification value. Biodiesel characteristics were enhanced with Co+2 reduction. Also, biodiesel quality decreased with the increase of cobalt. The results showed that the maximum and minimum carotenoids were observed in 0.1 and 10 mg L-1 cobalt, respectively.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47506756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The yield of carotenoprotein increased with increasing enzyme concentration up to 51.6%, which was consistent with increasing degree of hydrolysis. Protein and lipid content of the hydrolysate was 79.6 and 9.4 percent, respectively. The hydrolysate had a high nutritional value with a high amount of essential amino acids (465 mg/g) compared to the control (254 mg/g). The carotenoprotein exhibited a dose-dependent increase in antiradical activity measured by two in vitro assays, with an efficiency of 94 and 57 percent for DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities, respectively. Protease-extracted carotenoprotein showed higher ACE inhibiting effect than the control at different concentrations (p<0.05). The results from this study showed that carotenoprotein from banana shrimp have both radical scavenging activity and antihypertensive properties and a high content of essential amino acids, and could be good source for value-added nutritive food ingredients.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"1510-1525"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48067182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyzed cytochrome oxidase I (COI) sequences for five genus of cypriniform fishes from Iran. The present investigation provides data on genetic structure of some species of Nemachilidae including Paraschistura bampurensis, Oxynoemacheilus kiabii and Turcinemacheilus saadii and Leuciscine cyprinids Alburnoides bipunctatus and Alburnus alburnus from inland waters of Iran. The DNA sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene in all fishes were amplified, and the resulting sequences were compared to entries in GenBank using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool for nucleotide data. Individuals were assigned to groups using COI gene sequence divergence analysis which was determined using Kimura 2parameter distances. Results revealed two major clusters which were inconsistent characterized by mediocre genetic divergence (mean 0.8%). The sequences of P. bampurensis showed that specimens collected from four rivers (Beshar, Khersan, Shapour and Fahlian Rivers, southwest of Iran), with 1.89% for Nemacheilian loaches and 0.8% for two Leuciscine cyprinids within-species Kimura two parameters distance, shared haplotype in Neighbor-joining (NJ) tree. Some clusters showed haplotype sharing, or low levels of divergence between species, hindering reliable identification. We discussed the importance of further DNA barcode studies for native and invasive cyprinid species and subsequent submission to GenBank databases for more reliable species match and inference.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"628-645"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41338802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first phase of the study was a detailed monthly water quality and fish stock survey for one year along with associated environmental observations, which was analysed via Landsat 8 imagery for 2014. In the second phase of the study, appropriate indicators were selected in weighted overlay on ArcGIS platform to perform creek productivity analysis. For this purpose, 13 creeks of Indus delta were selected for detailed analysis. These creeks were chosen using GIS techniques based on accessibility, depth and size. Results obtained from a total number of 65,085 fish catch from 252 identified fisheries important species in which 134 species were estuarine, 107 species marine and 11 species belonged to freshwater. Out of these, six species of Penaeus indicus, Pennahia anea, Stolephorus indicus, Escualosa thoracata, Charybdis sp. and Acanthopagrus arabicus were selected for spatial distribution analysis. It is observed that creeks of west of Jhang River known as Issaro, Waddi Khuddi, Patiani, Mal, Dabbo, Chann, Richhal had higher fish abundance and species richness than those of eastern creeks. The important fisheries species showed strong correlation with mangroves, salinity and temperatures. This study indicated that all parameters were strongly dependent on anthropogenic interventions at the study area and these activities seriously affected fish catch and growth of species mainly because of recent environmental changes. Experiment 1 aimed to investigate the growth promoting and anti-oxidative effects of Azolla nilotica (AZN) and Spirulina platensis (SP) in Oreochromis niloticus. Seven fish groups (G1-G7), each in three replicates, were fed a basal diet (control), AZN 5%, AZN 10%, SP 0.5%, SP 1%, a mixture of Azolla nilotica 5% and Spirulina platensis 1% (AZN 5 %-SP 1% mix), and a mixture of Azolla nilotica 10% and Spirulina platensis 1% (AZN 10% SP 1% mix), respectively, for 3 months. The results showed a significant increase in growth indices (weight gain, specific growth rate, average length gain, feed efficiency ratio), and a decrease in the feed conversion ratio in all supplemented groups compared to control. Hepato-somatic index in G4 and G5 groups, and intestinal-somatic index in G4 G6, and in G5 and G6 were obviously higher than control. Spleno-somatic index and antioxidant enzymes (GSH-px, SOD and CAT) markedly increased in G5 and G6 compared to control. Significant increase (p<0.05) in white blood cells was recorded in G2 and G4. Experiment 2 verified the effect of one-month supplementation of SP 1% on males and females O. niloticus fecundity. Males fed with SP 1% had an enhanced fertility as indicated by an increase in sperm density, spermatozoa motility and livability rates compared with the control. There was a significant increase in eggs number and the fecundity index in unripe females and a tendency of egg size to increase in ripen fish. It could be concluded that SP 1% and AZN 5% supplementation is advantageous to improve O. niloticus growth and fecundity.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"846-862"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48110233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the effects of the environmental and human factors were examined on altitudinal patterns of fish habitat selection, faunal changes, species richness and fish abundance from upstream to downstream in the southern part of the central Alborz Protected Area during 2016 and 2017. 366 fish individuals of five species in three families were identified and brown trout was the dominant species. The river was divided into three zones based on habitat structure, species composition and influence of physical and chemical variables. The results indicate that, in some situations, including small changes in habitat structure indices, physical and chemical variables along the altitudinal gradient are more effective in habitat preference, describing the composition, and abundance. Chemical variables can help to have a better understanding of the conventional patterns, shaped by the habitat structure and physical variables. Habitat suitability index model for brown trout in three zones is completely different over the two years and this species could overcome these conditions. However, upstream areas were more appropriate. Dam, with decreases of outlet water temperature, also creates homogeneous and simple habitats leading to changes in expected fish distribution patterns with decreasing altitude. These conditions may have increased habitat suitability index for the brown trout in downstream, while despite favorable ecological conditions in the middle zone, habitat suitability index and alternative habitats available in this zone are likely to decline due to density and interspecific competition. The natural pattern of fish distribution and habitat selection varies along the altitudinal gradient due to various factors and human disturbances. Optimal management of protected areas can control the effects of some of these factors at least temporarily.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"410-429"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48033788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the high costs, live prey with pathogenic bacteria also increases the risk of contracting foodborne diseases. More than 3.5 billion large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) larvae (total length over 4-centimeters) were raised in 2016. However, no formulated diet is available for replacing live feed in early stages of this croaker so far. In the present study, a new microdiet (Yq) is investigated for rearing croaker larvae at early stages (15 days after hatching). A commercial import diet (Cd) and live prey (Lp) were fed as controls. About 20,000 larvae per tank were hatched from Ningde Fufa Fishery Company in May 4th, 2017. Quality parameters, such as growth performance, survival and three digestive enzyme activities were measured. The survival rate of Yq (58.5%), Cd (51.5%) and Lp (69.6%) exhibited no significant difference (p >0.05). Furthermore, the cost of Yq was only about 23.3% of the cost of Lp. Specific growth rate in Lp was about 8 times higher (p 0.05). The high survival rate and low cost of Yq showed that it is suitable in rearing Larimichthys crocea larvae at the early stages.","PeriodicalId":14569,"journal":{"name":"Iranian Journal of Fisheries Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"313-323"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49137941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the function of occludin in the intestinal barrier at the protein level, a rabbit occludin polyclonal antibody was prepared against heterologously expressed Cyprinus carpio A fragment of the occludin gene containing antigenic determinants was first ligated into the pET-21a, which is an expression vector and transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3) strain. Expression of the target fusion protein was induced by isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG). The purified fusion protein was used as an antigen to immunize New Zealand long-eared rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) through ear margin vein and subcutaneous injection to obtain rabbit anti-carp polyclonal antibodies against occludin. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to evaluate the antibody titre, and the antibody was used to determine the distribution and expression of occludin in the intestine of carp after infection with Aeromonas hydrophila. The target fusion protein had a molecular weight of approximately 31.7 ku, the antibody titre was 2.4 × 106, and the integrity of occludin protein was lower in various intestinal segments after A. hydrophila infection. The results indicated that the prepared antibody had a high titre, affinity, and specificity and can be applied to study the expression and distribution of occludin in C. carpio.
