However, unreliable wireless and multihop communications among sensors and actuators cause challenges in designing such systems. Wireless HART is the first standard for wireless real-time industrial applications. However, current Wireless HART standard does not provide services for efficient usage of actuators, which are an essential part of automation. In this paper we focus on Wireless HART and propose a periodic and deterministic downlink transmission functionality which enables efficient usage of actuators and control applications. Furthermore, we define new HART commands extending the interface, without affecting available services, to support the integration of actuators. This can be achieved with minor changes in the current standard.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115957085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the LC-resonance response of circular split rings illuminated with a normal incidence light is analyzed. The tuning response of the resonant frequency upon loading various samples of liquids is described. The liquids are deposited on the array of the rings. The sensor allows to extract various information about the dielectric properties and the loss from the resonant frequency. The analyses process consists of comparing the resonant shift to characterize the liquid type and the resonant dip to examine the impurities induced in the liquid.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121256559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As result, new manufacturing strategies need to be considered, taking into account aspects such as costs, quality, delivery times and flexibility, among other. However, in practice, none of these strategies can be effectively implemented if they disconsider the occurrence of faults in the manufacturing system. In this sense, this paper introduces a procedure for supervision of manufacturing systems including diagnosis and treatment of faults, i.e., a supervision strategy that considers not only the normal behavior of systems components, but also abnormal (faulty) conditions of them. The present approach uses Bayesian networks for the diagnosis and decision-making purposes, and interpreted Petri net for the manufacturing process synthesis, modeling and control purposes. The integration of these techniques guarantees the specified functionality of the system. Special emphasis laid on methodological issues and industrial systems, where a hierarchical structure can be adopted. A flexible assembly system is presented as an application example.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124865889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is developed to complement traditional navigation systems such as white cane and guide dogs. The system consists of two stereo cameras and a portable computer for processing the environmental information. The aim of the system is to detect the static and dynamic objects from the surrounding environment and transform them into acoustical signals. Through stereophonic headphones, the user perceives the acoustic image of the environment, the volume of the objects, moving object direction and trajectory, its distance relative to the user and the free paths in a range of 5m to 15m. The acoustic signals represent short train of delta sounds externalized with non-individual Head-Related Transfer Functions generated in an anechoic chamber. Experimental results show that users were able to control and navigate with the system safety both in familiar and unfamiliar environments.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121588897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a next-generation energy system to achieve them, Cluster Energy Management System (CEMS) is beginning to be studied in Japan. CEMS is the energy management system, which cooperates with various dispersed power sources and buildings using information technology. CEMS monitors and adjusts energy supply and demand in real-time to form the best combination of them, and achieves high efficiency energy usage. In this study, the electricity energy measurement system using KNIVES (Keio University Network oriented Intelligent and Versatile Energy saving System) was build in Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). In addition, it is declared that this system can predict electric power demand based on the past data obtained from itself.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122515789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prediction of this loss increase has been the subject of many studies, but it can be still considered as an open research field, in particular when fast and reliable estimation methods are requested. In the paper a previously developed method to predict the iron losses with PWM supply in magnetic laminations (using toroidal samples or the Epstein frame) and special induction prototypes (with a plastic squirrel cage) has been now used to predict the iron losses of five industrial induction motors with aluminum die cast rotor cages. The measured iron loss values have been collected by means of the conventional no-load test, both under sinusoidal and PWM supply conditions. The reported analyses and comments allow a critical discussion of the proposed estimation method and of the no-load test under PWM supply.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131108036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system has to perform the inspection of various items in the final stage, meaning after the production phase where the bottles are already in the crate. The items to inspect are the following: whether the crate is correct (with the correct color), whether the crate is broken, whether the crate is fully populated, i.e., all bottles are present, to check for bottles without caps and whether the capsule is the correct one. The work uses techniques of computer vision for these verifications and also principal components analysis (PCAs) for the recognition of the capsules. In recent years, the increasing throughput in the steel industry has become the visual inspection a critical production bottleneck. In this scenario, to assure a high rolled steel quality, novel sensor-based technologies have been developed. Unlike most common techniques, which are frequently based on manual estimations that lead to significant time and financial constraints, we present an automatic system based on (i) image analysis techniques, such as, Hough Transform to classify three defects with well-defined geometric shapes: welding, clamp and identification hole and (ii) two well-known feature extraction techniques: Principal Component Analysis and Self-Organizing Maps to classify three defects with complex shapes, specifically, oxidation, exfoliation and waveform defect. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our system, we tested it on challenging real-world datasets, acquired in a rolling mill of the steel company ArcelorMittal. The system was successfully validated, achieving overall accuracy of 87% and demonstrating its high potential to be applied in real scenarios.","PeriodicalId":145288,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116505292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
