Given the connectivity requirement imposed on neighbouring cellular microstructures for their successful printing, we propose in the current work a criterion for connectivity evaluation based on Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm, and a unit cell generation model is established with the aid of the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) approach. A family of 9 lattice units satisfying a prescribed connectivity condition is subsequently optimized under various load conditions. Lastly, a multi-scale structural optimization design approach is developed under the neural network framework, and the best combination of the a priori optimized lattice units is found. The effectiveness of the proposed protocol is verified on a series of numerical examples considering structural stiffness/toughness.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114375549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bridge structure has been analysed by nonlinear dynamic analysis to represent the response up to collapse under earthquake loading. The analyses are performed by adopting a novel macromodelling approach based on a recently developed macroscale anisotropic masonry model with embedded discontinuities.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117163315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main properties and results of detailed inspection of the structures are shown. Computational models that were created in finite element method environment in order to recreate the behaviour of the bridges under typical loading conditions and estimate their load carrying capacities are presented. The outcomes of several linear and nonlinear static analyses that were conducted for this purpose are discussed. What is more the results of finite element analyses are reviewed against the inspected bridge condition and final conclusions are formulated on that basis.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123638883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data-driven characterization of viscoelastic materials using hydroacoustic measurements 使用水声测量的粘弹性材料的数据驱动特性

{"title":"Data-driven characterization of viscoelastic materials using hydroacoustic measurements","authors":"L. del Rio-Martin, A. Prieto","doi":"10.4203/ccc.3.20.1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4203/ccc.3.20.1","url":null,"abstract":"Any numerical procedure in computational acoustics requires choosing an appropriate model for the constitutive law of the vibroacoustic material under consideration. Regarding the linear wave propagation in a viscoelastic material, the most common model assumptions are the classical Maxwell and Kelvin-Voigt models or the most recent fractional derivative models. Usually, once the frequency-dependent constitutive law is fixed, the intrinsic parameters of the mathematical model are estimated to fit the available experimental data with the mechanical response of that model. This modelling methodology potentially suffers from the epistemic uncertainty of a priori inadequate model selection. However, in this work, the mathematical modelling of linear viscoelastic materials and, consequently, the choice of their frequency-dependent constitutive laws is performed based only on the available experimental measurements without imposing any functional dependence on the parameters. This data-driven approach requires the numerical solution of an inverse problem for each frequency of interest. The acoustic response of a viscoelastic material due to the time-harmonic excitations generated by a transducer has been calculated numerically. In these numerical simulations, the non-planar directivity pattern of the transducer has been taken into account. In addition, the acoustic pressure field has been approximated using a plane wave discretisation to avoid numerical pollution errors at a high-frequency regime and reduce the computational cost of the calculations solving each inverse problem. To illustrate the proposed methodology for selecting the visco-elastic model, experimental measurements of insertion loss and fractional power dissipation in underwater acoustics have been used.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"12 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132899595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Vulnerability reduction of structures under dynamic loadings","authors":"D. Cancellara, F. De Angelis","doi":"10.4203/ccc.3.11.4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4203/ccc.3.11.4","url":null,"abstract":"In the present work a suitable retrofitting strategy is presented for reducing the vulnerability of under-designed structures subject to dynamic loadings. After the recent seismic events in Italy the seismic codes have been modified and the seismic risk associated to a large part of the territory has been substantially increased. Many structures build in the past with respect to obsolete standards no longer satisfy the current technical standards for the seismic codes. In the present work a retrofitting strategy for under-designed structures is investigated by the adoption of steel braces realized in series with innovative buckling restrained axial dampers in the nonlinear modeling of the dissipative behavior of structures under dynamic actions. The adopted retrofitting approach shows to be useful for the mitigation of the seismic risk of under-designed structures by providing a suitable increment of the safety degree of under-designed structures. A pushover analysis is performed in order to determine the capacity curve of the considered under-designed structure and the safety factors are evaluated for the structure before retrofitting and after the innovative retrofitting. The reported analysis shows that the investigated innovative retrofitting strategy can be usefully applied for an effective reduction of the seismic vulnerability of under-designed structures by suitably increasing the safety factors of the investigated structures subject to dynamic loadings.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123828730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
