This paper describes dorsal hand vein recognition using statistical and Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) based features extraction techniques and artificial neural networks (ANN). For this purpose, 240 images of 80 users were obtained from Bosphorus Hand Vein Database. The images were first pre-processed by cropping region of interest (ROI), before the application of mean filtering, contrast enhancing and histogram equalizing. The ROI was then segmented by implementation of binarization method. The statistical and GLCM features were then extracted from the segmented ROI. These extracted features were sent to ANN for classification of the images. The training result shows that the proposed technique is able to recognize dorsal hand vein pattern with with considerably high accuracy of 99.32%.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115509913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Photovoltaic (PV) as a modular generation is relatively easy to implement compared to the other renewable energy plants. In 2017, PV usage hits 100GW, globally. The safety of photovoltaic modules appears to be an issue with the growing usage of photovoltaic, as PV modules will face various modes of faults during the operation. Nearly 50 % of the total fault is the hot spot that is very difficult to locate in a largescale PV field. The latest method requires up to 105 days to detect hotspot in a 15 MW PV generation with an area of 30 hectares and made of 63000 modules (contains millions of cells). Those methods which cannot quickly and continuously detect the fault can degrade and burn the module. Therefore, a fast detection method is needed to prevent the catastrophic failure of PV modules. Thermal imaging using fish eye lens is promised to face this problem. It has wide field of view so that the wide area PV farm could be monitored simultaneously. However, fish eye lens has non linear projections which affect the image shape. Therefore, in this paper, the simulation to identified PV image characteristic that created by fish eye lens has been performed. The results show that there are some parameter combinations which can create a clear image without any overlapping. Also, the result show the length characteristic of PV image which can be used to defined the requirement of thermal sensor sensitivity.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127182250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Games can be either physical or mental, for example, sports and chess. Games have developed over the past decades, having gone through significant changes via digitization. Games nowadays are at everyone’s disposal since almost everyone possesses a smartphone. Videogame such as PUBG, Call of Duty mobile, Fortnite, and more are very addictive games that consume a lot of our time daily. Although games are ‘time wasters’, we should acknowledge the one thing that games offer: this is the constant testing, and learning a simple game engages the brain proves that games are an asset in mental development and thus gamification can be used to provide a fun learning environment. In this article, we discuss how gamification has been implemented in various applications over the years, people’s take on gamification and gamified apps from a survey and interview conducted, and thereafter design a student-oriented gamified study app, Gamesy, that makes use of game elements to improve performance in school and change/improve study habits in a game environment via progressive game design. With this, better performance may be realized in the tertiary education level, university, and college.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126726009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can be employed to perform tasks like surveillance in high altitude, inspection in a large area, transportation and they can be even used for some military activities. Landmines are common threats to the military, civilians and animals. Innocent people lose their lives or limbs to these deadly weapons every year. MQUAD is a hardware and software solution to detect landmines in a landmine contaminated area. It can alert the demining squad about the exact location of the detected landmine. All the parts for quadcopter frame are 3D designed and printed using PLA material to reduce the overall weight of the system. Flight controller for M-QUAD is developed using a gyroscope and accelerometer module and a microcontroller. Radio Frequency (RF) receiver connected to Flight Controller controls the movements of the quadcopter. Pitch, Roll, Yaw and Throttle movements of the quadcopter are controlled by a RF Transmitter. An IOT based metal detector is developed and employed to detect landmines and the sharp metal fragments inside them. A GPS Location Alerting system is designed to share the location of the detected Landmines with the demining squad. M-QUAD was hovered manually to detect landmine like metal structures and the location of the detected metal items were observed with the help of the Mobile Application. Three detection coils with different diameters were employed during the experiment to observe the change in detection range for each coil. Detection coil of 14cm diameter detects up to a depth of 25cm. This system will serve as a useful tool to eradicate landmines and save innocent lives.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114276454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The single element antenna was designed to operate in the Priority 1 spectrum 3.5 GHz band set by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The antenna was built on a Rogers RT5880 substrate with a dimension of 44.1 mm x 35.1 mm x 1.57 mm, which has a dielectric constant ($varepsilon_{r}$) of 2.2 and loss tangent ($delta$) of 0.0009. The simulated performances of the antenna achieved a return loss of 26.347 dB at 3.5 GHz, bandwidth of 641.2 MHz ranging from 3.282 GHz to 3.910 GHz, and a gain with value of 3.68 dBi. The fabricated antenna was measured using Virtual Network Analyzer (VNA) for real world measurement, and the return loss at 3.5 GHz exhibits a value of 12.146 dB. The error was identified and simulated in CST-MWS software, and preventive measures have been listed.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114566236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prominent green reducing agent namely ascorbic acid has used in the GO sample preparation and act as reductant which help removal of oxygen containing functional group hence, resultant of rGO. In this investigation, the GO purification rate has accelerated by help of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in function of washing agent with only 3 cycle’s wash. Raman spectroscopy results show that the synthesized GO and rGO samples yield in the range of 1349.33 cm$^{-1}$ (D band) to 1571.35 cm$^{-1}$ (G band) of Raman peak, respectively. A narrow and sharp Raman peak with high intensity of rGO sample has indicates it having a better quality as compared to GO sample. Contact angle measurement reveal the large angle obtained from rGO sample which are 72.8° on left hand side and 65.0° for right side, correspondingly have confirmed it is more hydrophobic than GO which attained contact angle of 52.5° on both sides. Surface morphology examined by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) show that both samples that diluted with deionized (DI) water have a loose sponge which similar to a thin wrinkle sheet in structure that suggest it has well exfoliated by using modified Tour’s method. On the other hand, produced samples that not diluted with DI water has tightly packed, corrugated and crumpled in form. Results from Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) measurement has confirmed that oxygen-containing functional group have been removed from rGO sample by having higher calculated carbon / oxygen (C / O) in quotient with 3.09 as compared to GO sample with 1.43 which based on the atomic percentage of C/O. The significant reduction of resistance value from rGO sample with $33.41 times 10^{4}Omega$ as compared to GO with $41.18 times 10^{6} Omega$ have leading it to obtained better conductivity with $4.77 times 10^{-7}$ S / cm in comparison to GO sample with $3.86 times 10^{-9}$S / cm. Thus, this modified Tour’s method with the usage of green reductant agent has potential to be used in producing sensing device applications.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128985110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It revolutionize how manufacturing operates and performs maintenance. Information Technology plays a crucial role in IR4.0 that drives the digitalization of manufacturing. The combination of Information Technology with Operational Technology forms the core of Smart Manufacturing. It works beyond automation and machine-to-machine communications. Among the benefits of IR4.0 are enhanced efficiency in production, mass-customization of product, zero downtime, extended tool life and energy efficiency. Robotics is an ideal smart technology of IR4.0. Current trend in Robotics introduces the deployment of collaborative robot, for SME. However, monitoring and interaction with such system comes with additional challenges especially in large-scale deployment. Dashboard application becomes more important for such system to have a better management. Most of the existing applications are managed in an isolated system even within the same factory, thus make it difficult to maintain and troubleshoot if problems occur. The vital fact about renewable energy is the energy infinitely replenished. Solar energy is the most popular source in Malaysia compared to wind energy, hydropower, biogas, geothermal, and others. Unfortunately, some of the renewable energy have not widely used even though they have a high capability to supply electricity. As Malaysia is the world’s second-largest producer of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), hence it can be used to produce biogas. A study has been carried out to explore biogas ability to supply electricity in Malaysia. This study has been conducted in several contributing factors, namely geographical distribution, technology involved, and economic analysis. These factors will prove the feasibility of electrification via biogas. The review has been done by collecting the information and data from the previous studies such as journal and visits to official websites and related authorities that shows the current data and usage of biogas. The results show that biogas generation activity has been primarily promoted and produced due to sufficient waste products and modern technology used. In the last decade, the Malaysian government had actively involved in fostering biogas and built economy catalyst to pursue biogas by involving the private sector.","PeriodicalId":142867,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131347395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
