Timely screening and treatment can restore personal health and raise health standards nationally and internationally. This study describes the development and testing of non-invasive haemoglobin detection device, designed by Tech4Life Enterprises. The core concept behind the development of the device is to integrate technological and social aspects involved in monitoring anaemia in communities so as to improve their quality of life, thus promoting a sustainable healthy life style.","PeriodicalId":142240,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122693986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents power flow control algorithm for voltage source inverter used in a micro-grid under unbalanced grid conditions. Energy Storage and local energy source are the key components of the micro-grid that is required to help stabilize grid. There is a variety of technologies that can be used to store energy, but all these technologies have a controllable power electronic interface like inverters to mains (IEC 60038 Standard, Voltage: 400V, 50Hz, three-phase Supply). The control algorithm for inverter in this paper is based on dual vector current control. It gives robust operation of the inverter under generalized unbalanced input conditions. The control algorithm is based on the separate regulation of positive and negative sequence components, allowing the delivery of constant active power to the mains, and suppressing twice grid frequency oscillations. The presented control scheme improves voltage profile of the micro-grid. The control scheme is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink model and simulation results are presented. The results shows effectiveness of control scheme and are found in accordance with IEC standards and Engineering Recommendation P29.","PeriodicalId":142240,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132053679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then, Data from the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) were used to discuss the technology trends in wind energy. The horizontal axis wind turbine structure, major components, and fundamental of operation of each block was briefly discussed. The tools and techniques used in design and control of large-scale wind turbine were also reviewed. Some overview of the various stages of turbine operation and control strategies used to maximize energy capture in below rated wind speeds was presented; however, the emphasis was on control to alleviate loads when the turbine was operating at maximum power. The nonlinear model of wind turbines and their linear version for design of controllers were explained and developed. Finally, the available linear control techniques for capturing maximum power from the wind were conferred.","PeriodicalId":142240,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech)","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124687570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Entering another realm, such as cyber space, poses new threats and issues for modern day power systems. In order to understand these threats, a cyber-power test bed was developed for testing cyber-attacks on an electric power grid system, along with its crucial components and data. The cyber-power test bed in development includes: the RTDS machine (Real Time Digital Simulator) for simulating the power system, a computer with a virtual machine that will simulate the power system via RSCAD, an SQL database to store the important data for the power system that is streamed via OpenPDC, an attacking computer with a virtual machine containing common hacking tools, and a network switch to place all virtual and real machines on the same network for an isolated testing environment. Finally, this system was developed successfully and the result of this experiment supported the concept of developing a smart grid cyber test bed.","PeriodicalId":142240,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129471035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A lot of research is being done considering such vehicles at the system level. One of the systems being worked on is CVT (Continuously Varying Transmission). In this paper, an attempt is made to incorporate a CVT system with an electric vehicle. This setup will allow the motor to operate in high-efficiency ranges and effectively bring down the power consumption of the entire system.","PeriodicalId":142240,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126138073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
