The aim of this study was to evaluate the cross- toxicity of these associations on renal cells. Methods: African green monkey kidney cells (VERO) were incubated with anti-malarial drugs and plant preparations. The products used were: Artesunate 100mg / amodiaquine 270mg (ASAQ) and artemether 80mg / lumefantrine 480mg (AL) , and Sida acuta and Enantia polycarpa at a concentration of 10 ?g / ml. After 5 days of incubation, a cell count was performed using a haemocytometer. Results: ASAQ resulted in significant cell destruction compared to the control between Day2 (p 30% in the tubes treated with ASAQ and Sida acuta . Finally, cell destruction was statistically significant in tubes treated with the combination of antimalarial drugs and traditional plants compared to the control tube from Day2 (p <0.001). Conclusion: The renal toxicity observed with ASAQ, Sida acuta and combination of antimalarial drugs and herbs, appears dose-dependent or cumulative. The mechanism of this renal toxicity should be better analysed in further studies.","PeriodicalId":14194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacological Research","volume":"17 1","pages":"181-186"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81758408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Crude aqueous extracts were obtained by decoction of Heliotropium indicum stem with leaves and roots. A phytochemical screening of extracts has been made by thin layer chromatography. The pharmacological effect of the extracts was assessed by administration to L-NAME-induced hypertensive Wistar rats. Blood pressures were measured by carotid catheterization. The chemical screening revealed the presence of many secondary metabolites such as coumarins, flavonoids, anthocyanics, lignans, saponins, tannins, terpenes and triterpenes in both extract. Alkaloid were detected only in the root extract. 7-days administration of L-NAME induced an increasis of rat mean arterial pressure (MAP) from 1063 mmHg to 1342 mmHg. Administration of both extracts significantly decreased the MAP from 1342 mmHg to respectively to 108 1 mmHg for the stem with leaf extract and to 1212 mmHg for the root extract . These results provide a support for the use of this plant in traditional medicine.","PeriodicalId":14194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacological Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"165-169"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89372891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last decades, the number of this work, thienopyridine derivatives were evaluated as an HSV-1 inhibitor to since the elevated number of acyclovir resistance in immunocompromised patients could promote a continuous viral pool increase and disease recurrence. In these substances, thienopyridine derivative with radical nitrate in para position (109) was able to inhibit 99% of HSV-1 replication in Vero cells with EC 50 value of 100 pM, and SI value three times higher than acyclovir. In kinetic enzymatic assay this substance was also able to inhibit about 50% of HSV-1 DNA polymerase but in a non-competitive mechanism a new synergic system to control herpes infections. Preliminary in vivo model studies revealed that substance 109 is toxic when administered in 300 g/mL concentrations. In this work, we concluded that thienopyridine derivatives can be considered a promising new anti-HSV-1 drug and can be used for clinical testing.","PeriodicalId":14194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacological Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"148-153"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80422054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Almost all targets in its therapy are exploited and there is a growing need to search for newer targets. Vitamin D is gaining increasing attention in treatment of primary hypertension. Objectives : To study the efficacy and safety of Vitamin D supplementation on systolic and diastolic BP in patients of primary hypertension (JNC 7 stage I) receiving conventional antihypertensive medications (namely Tab atenolol 50mg or Tab amlodipine 5mg). Methods : It was a prospective, randomized, double blind, parallel, placebo controlled clinical trial with 2 groups of 33 patients each. Both groups had patients receiving conventional antihypertensives (Tab atenolol50mg or Tab amlodipine 5mg). Group A patients were given placebo (lactose tablets) and Group B were given oral Vitamin D 3 (60,000 IU) once weekly at bedtime after meals, repeated every fortnightly for 12 weeks. Results : Patients belonging to Group B showed a statistically significant (p < 0.0001) decline in both systolic blood pressure after 12 weeks of receiving vitamin D supplementation. There was no significant change in the safety parameters. Conclusions : Thus, our study shows that Vitamin D supplementation has some role in safely reducing systolic blood pressure after 12 weeks of supplementation and hence it should be supplemented with antihypertensive drugs to the patients with hypertension.","PeriodicalId":14194,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacological Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"135-137"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86480683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
