That is why several technologies were developed for digital television, both in Brazil and in Europe, in order to obtain more acceptance among the population, focusing on attracting more and more users. Having a large number and variety of programs available, such as TV shows, news, movies, games, apps, Internet and others; and the different technologies that allow decoding and access to all this information, comes the need to deploy a single platform that allows the use of Broadcast and Broadband platforms into a single technology, regardless of the parameters established in the countries with the highest technological development. Therefore, the objective of this work is to optimize a model that be adapted to the Brazilian Digital TV System (ISDB-Tb) with the European one (HbbTV), developing a technology that obtains greater interaction with the viewer, using broadcast channels and the Internet.","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128198181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, many of these studies have been carried out only in a theoretical way and have been verified by simulations, without actual hardware implementations, which will reveal their true performance. One of the main proposals consists on changing the current paradigm in transport networks, by encoding the path information into packet headers using Bloom filters to virtually eliminate the routing tables. In this paper we work on the implementation of a node in a NetFPGA card to evaluate the performance of MPSS and D-MPSS mechanisms (proposed in previous works), which use Bloom filters into the packet headers. To build this, it is required to develop some techniques to work with header Bloom filters of variable size, which need compression and decompression in the fastest possible way, optimizing the resources used during the switching decisions. Performance measurements are provided to verify the forwarding efficiency, considering latencies and the comparison between both methods, in which an advantage for D-MPSS is checked.","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131785622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering this, the use of self-healing mechanisms becomes necessary in order to create a more fault-tolerant and robust WSN. With this problem at hand, we have proposed and developed DACA, a Disjoint path And Clustering Algorithm that increases the network lifetime through network topology control and self-healing mechanisms. By using the Collection Tree Protocol (CTP) algorithm, we first create a tree using all the initials nodes of the network, having this tree as our initial communication backbone. After this, we build a set of spatial clusters using K-means and reconstruct the tree using only the Cluster Heads (CH), therefore reducing the number of active nodes in the network. With this new subset of nodes forming a tree, we apply the N-to-1 algorithm to create disjoint paths, making the network more robust to communication failures. The experiments show that DACA considerably extends the lifetime of the network by having a set of backup nodes to support the communication network when an active node dies, while still maintaining a good coverage of the area of interest.","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126009042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solve the problem of spectral detection two hypotheses H0 and H1, are considered. A statistic test over the received data is compared with a predetermined threshold, to check the availability of the channel and the accuracy of the detector. Hence, a detection probability (PD) and false alarm probability (PFA) are defined for a specific signal to noise ratio (SNR). A simulation is performed in Matlab and is validated on GNURadio using a board USRP N210 to detect frequency modulated (FM) signal at 100 MHz. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves are used to illustrate the performance of binary classifier system when its discrimination threshold is modified. The matched filter gets a better performance than the energy detector under some characteristics and agrees with the requirements established to changes in PFA and noise power, besides has a higher measurement range (signal detection allows -25 dB SNR).","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126082186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then recently, many research has focused on region-based techniques that allow the user to specify a particular region of an image and the system will return images with similar regions to the query. For that reason this paper proposes a method of retrieval image based on irregular regions of interest where the user can to select one region. Preliminary experimental results show that the proposed method provides better retrieving result than retrieval using some of the existing methods.","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131790744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to population projections, Ecuador will have aged a 12% more than the current index by 2050. Thus, the application of technology to provide remote monitoring and healthcare services at home would reduce the high demand that hospitals currently experience. Under these assumptions, this paper describes the implementation of a prototype to monitor the health status of elderly people. The system collects data from different biological variables of the human body such as temperature, blood oxygen level, heart rate, body position, and even electrocardiogram signals. This propotype also uses mobile communication (i.e., GSM/GPRS) to send alerts and concentrate data at a Web server. That server might generate electronic health records in order to assist distant doctors. The performance of the system was analysed according to its reliability, average sampling rate at each sensor, and message latency through the mobile network. With this proposal, we look for a significant improvement in the quality of life of elderly people by preventing possible emergencies that may cause the death of patients.","PeriodicalId":141807,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Colombian Conference on Communication and Computing (IEEE COLCOM 2015)","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114978600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
