The phase purity of synthesized CuO NPs was confirmed using X-Ray diffraction analysis. The average crystallite size of CuO NPs was calculated around 12nm. The optical absorption band was observed at 277 nm through the ultra-violet visible absorption (UV-Vis Abs) spectrometer. Functional group analysis of CuO NPs was performed through the Fourier Transform Infra-red spectrometer. The larvicidal activity of CuO NPs was carried out using Aedes aegypti, Culex quinquefasciatus larvae. Lethal concentrations LC50 and LC90 values of both mosquito vectors were calculated using SPSS software. The maximum mortality rate of Culex quinquefasciatus was found at a 15 ppm concentration of 100% and their LC50 values, LC90 values are 4.23 ppm and 13.67 respectively.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135652611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, there has been a paradigm shift towards eco-friendly and long-term solutions. This comprehensive review examines a range of sustainable approaches to mosquito and pest control, evaluating their efficacy, environmental impact, and potential for widespread implementation. Through a critical analysis of current research and practical applications, this article aims to provide a holistic overview of the state-of-the-art techniques and technologies in sustainable pest management.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135213938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, adopting a more specific and biological approach, such as use of larvivorous fish for control of mosquito larvae, proves to be a sustainable alternative. The objective of this study is to find out the larvivory potential of five ornamental fish species namely Puntius tetrazona , Gymnocorymbus ternatzi , Danio rerio , Pethia conchonius and Poecilia sphenops . Among the studied species, Puntius tetrazona demonstrated a significantly higher mean consumption rate of mosquito larvae, indicating its pronounced larvivory potential. However, all the fish species showed a significant difference of consumption rate among different feed types. These results highlight the importance of these ornamental fishes in controlling mosquito populations, emphasizing their potential role in mosquito-borne disease management strategies.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75590545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plant extracts from Andrographis paniculata have anti-mosquito properties. The study evaluated the extracts' larvicidal, pupicidal, and ovicidal activities, and their LC 50 values were compared between the two mosquito species to determine their relative effectiveness in controlling mosquito populations. The study shows that methanol extracts have promising larvicidal, pupicidal, and ovicidal activities against Aedes Aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito species. Methanol extracts showed promising larvicidal, pupicidal, and ovicidal activities against Ae. Aegypti and Cx. quinquefasciatus species with LC 50 values of 86.74 and 84.41 ppm for larvicidal activity, 95.27 and 92.91 ppm for pupicidal activity, and 56.8 and 60.0 ppm for ovicidal activity, respectively. Hexane and chloroform extracts showed good larvicidal activity but not promising pupicidal and ovicidal activities. Further research is needed to determine the active compounds and evaluate their safety and efficacy in the field.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73295252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
