The goal of the current study was to assess larvicidal efficacy of fruit extract of Diospyros kaki against Aedes albopictus larvae and to the non-target organisms. Bioassays were performed with crude and acetone solvent extracts on Ae. Albopictus larvae. Additionally, studies on the composition of phytochemicals were conducted. Through the use of Log-probit, regression, and ANOVA analyses, statistical explanations were derived. Both the crude and the acetone extract significantly reduced mosquito larvae. At 350 ppm concentration, 100% death of the 1 st and 2 nd instar larvae was observed after 72 hours. Tannins, steroids, alkaloid, and flavonoids were present in fruits as secondary metabolites. Both the extract had no effect on a non-target organism. The fruits of Diospyros kaki have the capacity to target-specifically regulate Ae. Albopictus larvae.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85446566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of chemical goods, on the other hand, led to a decline in the employment of these methods against pests. Recently, there has been a rise in concerns over public health and environmental security, which requires the identification of natural compounds that have the potential to be utilized against insect pests. Mosquitoes are major transmitters of illnesses and nuisance pests. The use of repellents lowers the risk of being bitten by a mosquito. At present, the use of synthetic pesticides to control insects and other arthropods presents several problems relating to the health of both humans and the environment. One option is to make use of natural products, which, in addition to being kind to the environment, are also very effective. Essential oils from plants belonging to a variety of species have been put through a battery of tests to determine the extent of their insect-repellent capabilities as a potentially useful natural resource. Among these compounds, are essential oils. The major emphasis of this review is going to be on the essential oils that have been shown to have repellent actions, as well as the significance of the synergistic effects that occur between the various components of these oils. Essential oils are volatile mixes of hydrocarbons that include a variety of different functional groups. Their ability to ward off pests has been connected to the presence of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes in their composition. Nevertheless, in some contexts, the combined effects of these substances may have a synergistic boost to their efficiency. The plant families Cymbopogon spp., Ocimum spp ., and Eucalyptus spp . are the most often listed as having potentially effective essential oils that may be utilized as insect repellents. A-pinene, limonene, citronellol, citronellal, camphor, and thymol are some of the individual chemicals that may be found in these mixes and have a high level of activity as a repellent. Last but not least, even though synthetic chemicals are still used as insect repellents more often than essential oils, these natural products have the potential to offer effective and safer insect repellents for both people and the environment. This is even though essential oils are more expensive than synthetic chemicals.","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91256114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have antimicrobial and antioxidant activities which act as very good candidates to replace synthetic compounds. In this insilico study, we focus on Gedunin, a tetranortriterpenoid extracted from Azadirachta indica , the Indian neem tree, which inhibits the Arginine kinase present in Aedes sollicitans . The chemical structure of Gedunin was obtained from NCBI Pubchem chemical compound database for the purpose of drug docking. An automated drug docking server was used to analyse the binding interaction between Gedunin and arginine kinase protein. Gedunin directly interacts with the protein at various functional active sites. The results were analysed using molecular dynamic studies. In conclusion, we infer that natural products such as Gedunin can be effectively used to control havoc-causing species such as Aedes sollicitans. This has been proved using Insilico studies in our current research work","PeriodicalId":14127,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mosquito Research","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86435166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
