The main causative organism is E. coli . Though this bacterium is harmless and present in large intestine as symbiotic relationship but when it comes in contact with vagina it causes severe infection and warrants use antibiotics. As use of antibiotics leads to antibiotics resistant bacteria there is need to develop alternative medicines those may be used to fight this menace, there are several traditional medicines being used by native people and present huge scope for new drug discovery. This project work aimed at such minor research. Leaves of guava has been used traditionally to treat common fever, skin infections and others. To validate such traditional claims, it was put under the study whether this could work against E. coli bacteria. The aqueous leaf extracts of chosen guava plants Psidium guajava L. were prepared. These were studied for their antibacterial property against E. coli. P. guajava L. leaf extract showed satisfactorily results and zone of inhibition was shown in case of E. coli. 500μl P. guajava extract concentration gave best results on E. coli culture plate, showing no growth at all. For comparison with other microbes, when leaf extract was tested, no live microbes were seen in S. aureus culture broth, when P. guajava extract was added and incubated. This culture also showed decrease OD level each day, showing low microbial count. E. coli culture broth showed a little growth with the addition of extract. Pseudomonas and Klebsiella did not respond at all.","PeriodicalId":14070,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Herbal Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88777845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional therapies can also be combined with modern clinical techniques, biomaterials, and medicines to reduce bacterial resistance and hasten the healing process. Myristica fragrans (nutmeg) being a traditional medicinal herb has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and healing properties. Especially, 1% ethanolic extract of Mystrica fragrans has shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties whereas its oral wound healing property has not been evaluated. Hence, this in-vitro study aims to evaluate the oral wound healing efficacy of 1% ethanolic extract of Myristica fragrans (nutmeg) by observing its effect on cell viability, cytotoxicity and proliferation of human gingival fibroblast. The results demonstrated that 1% ethanolic extract of Myristica fragrans had statistically significant (p=0.006) increase in the cell proliferation and viability at 24 hours and 72 hours respectively with no cytotoxicity at both time intervals. Present study demonstrated that 1% ethanolic extract of Myristica fragrans can be effectively used to enhance oral wound healing without any adverse effects.","PeriodicalId":14070,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Herbal Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135469285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Haemorrhoids are defined as the symptomatic enlargement and distal displacement of the normal anal cushions. Piles symptoms include prolapsed lump, painful bleeding, discomfort while passing stool, soiling, or itchiness. Piles can cause severe discomfort to the patients, hampering their daily activities thus reducing their quality of life. Majority of the people experience the disease at least once in their lifetime. People maintain secrecy about this disease due to social stigma in the initial stages, and then they must resort to surgery in the chronic stage when haemorrhoids become worse. The disease, due to its recurrent nature, needs new treatment modalities. The aim of this review is to determine the importance of herbal formulation, Hapéloo Piles relief capsule, for the management of haemorrhoids. The herbal formulation contains unique combination of plant-based ingredients like Azadiracta indica, Terminalia chebula, Symplocos racemosa, Curcuma longa, Aegle marmelos, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Foeniculum vulgare which are beneficial in management of piles by reducing the symptoms, thus contributing to the healing of haemorrhoidal oedema.","PeriodicalId":14070,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Herbal Medicine","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135469284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
