The aim of this work is to find influence of process parameters viz. weight fraction of TiB2 (8%, to 12%), stirrer speed (400 rpm to 700 rpm) and casting temperature (725°C to785°C) on hardness and wear of the composite. Taguchi's L-27 is used for design of experiments. To investigate the presence of TiB2 particles and its dispersion in molten metal matrix XRD and microscopic observations were carried. The analysis of variance (ANOVA), signal to noise ratio (S/N) was calculated to determine the contribution of each process parameter towards improved mechanical properties and best set of process parameters. Thereafter, confirmation test was carried to validate the result obtained in ANOVA with experimentation. Non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to optimise the process parameters of composite fabrication.","PeriodicalId":14033,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Engineering Innovation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42244133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is noted that in both the MIG and TIG welded parts, the fracture occurred irrespective of the sheet metal thickness. However, the formability of TIG welds was comparatively better than the MIG weld parts. Further, fuzzy-logic method was adopted to predict the Erichsen index value and compared with the experimental values. It was observed that fuzzy-logic predicted values were nearly accurate to the experimental ones, with a minor error of 1.4%. Fuzzy-logic technique is found to be a useful technique to predict the response and in saving time and costly trials on the shop floor, thus beneficial for industrial applications.","PeriodicalId":14033,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Engineering Innovation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46386321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A face centred composite design (CCF) is employed for design of tribological experiments. The tribological effects on Al-CSA composites such as wear rate (Wr - mm3/m) and coefficient of friction (CF) are analysed with operating variables such as normal pressure (A-kg/cm2), percent of CSA (B - vol. %), sliding-distance (C - m) and sliding velocity (D-m/s). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) reveals that normal pressure has a significant influence on wear rate and coefficient of friction. Interaction plots showed that the wear rate of composite has increased, due to extreme plastic deformation, delamination and particle cohesion, and an increased pressure and sliding distance. Regression analysis reveals the effect of variables on tribological responses. Confirmatory tests are conducted and found that the regression model is acceptable and error lies within the range, i.e., 5%.","PeriodicalId":14033,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Engineering Innovation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48356824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A series of FA-ZnO nanocomposites with the variation of FA and ZnO have been synthesised by chemical route followed by sintering at 1,300°C to produce the end product. To confer the end product, structural (XRD, FTIR) and surface morphological (TEM) studies have been carried out to identify the formation of the nanocomposites. pH level studies has been undertaken to find the feasibility of the prepared composites for different electrochemical bio sensing applications. The optical (UV-VIS) and electrical (IV) characterisations have been carried out to realise the semiconducting nature of the prepared sample. The obtained band gaps of the prepared materials are varying from 2.51 eV to 3.09 eV depending on the fly ash content in ZnO.","PeriodicalId":14033,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Engineering Innovation","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41791943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
