Moench) is the important grains crop for human being and animals in Upper Egypt, grain sorghum are attacked by certain smut diseases causing considerable losses in the grain yield. Covered kernel smut (CKS) caused by Sporisorium sorghi and long smut (LS) caused by Sporisorium ehrenbergii are one of the most significant diseases in sorghum production especially where untreated seed is planted. Results of this study showed that the high rates of inoculum of S. sorghi and S. ehrenbergii teliospores playing a great factor to increasing the infection with CKS and LS diseases and yield losses, while they reduced the yield of grains. Sorghum cultivars Giza-15 and Dorado differed in their ability to infection with these two types of CKS and LS respectively. Results revealed that due to infection by CKS disease Giza-15 (highly susceptible) recorded the lowest yield and highest yield losses (2.30 kg and 51.78%, respectively) and (2.25 kg and 52.22%, respectively) in both 2014 and 2015 seasons, respectively. While Shandweel-305 cv. (highly resistant) recorded the highest yield and lowest yield losses (3.11 kg and 12.39%, respectively) and (3.15 kg and 11.26%, respectively) in both 2014 1nd 2015 seasons, respectively. Also, due to infection by LS disease, Dorado cv. (highly susceptible) recorded the lowest yield and highest yield losses (2.53 kg and 29.72%, respectively) and (2.56 kg and 30.99%, respectively) in both 2014 1nd 2015 seasons, respectively. While Shandweel-305 cv. (moderately resistant) recorded the highest yield and lowest yield losses (3.35 kg and 6.42%, respectively) and (3.33 kg and 3.47%, respectively) in both 2014 1nd 2015 seasons, respectively. Different planting dates (1 st May, 1 st June and 1 st July of the early, optimal and late planting, respectively) also affected on the response of grain sorghum to infection by both smut diseases and yield losses. Therefore, adjustments to time of sowing often make it possible for sorghum to escape from smut diseases by ensuring that the crop is not in the most disease susceptible stage when smut inoculum is abundant and the weather favorable for infection and disease spread.","PeriodicalId":139703,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sohag Agriscience (JSAS)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124816402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment amid to investigate the efficiency of biofertilizers i.e. ( Nitrobin, Phosphorine and Potasiomag) as an effective alternative for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium chemical fertilizer on okra green fruits and protein percentage. NPK chemical fertilizers were added at four rates i.e. (43.75, 87.5, 131.25 and 175 kg N/fed.), (15, 30, 45 and 60 kg P 2 O 5 /fed.) and (12.5, 25, 38 and 50 kg K 2 O/fed.), respectively. The four rates represent 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the whole recommended dose of NPK according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. Two okra ( Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) cultivars i.e. Balady and Eskandrani were used in this study. The obtained results indicated that there were significant differences between the two okra cultivars and among different fertilizer treatments in most studied characteristics in both studied seasons. The interaction between Eskandrani cultivar and bio-fertilizers plus 3/4 NPK significantly enhanced vegetative growth traits, green fruits yield characteristics and its components as well as seed yield characteristics except number of seeds/pod in both seasons. However, the highest protein percentage recorded when Eskandrani cultivar fertilized by recommended dose of chemical NPK or bio-fertilization plus 1/2 NPK or bio-fertilization plus 3/4 NPK with no significant differences among them in both seasons.","PeriodicalId":139703,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sohag Agriscience (JSAS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123527775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reduction of phytate by using the ordinary water without adding phytase extract (control) in dough mixing then, fermented to 45 min., was 17.2 and 22.1% of its initial value after fermentation and baking, respectively. The addition of phytase extract from germinated wheat, wheat germ and rice bran during dough mixing led to increase the hydrolysis of phytate and reduction its content in final diabetic bread. The obtained results by addition phytase extract from wheat germ showed highly increase in phytic acid degradation compared to germinated wheat extract. When half amount of water required for dough mixing was replaced by equal amount of phytase extract from defatted wheat germ, the phytate phosphorus levels in diabetic bread decreased by 90.6 % of its initial values. Addition of phytase extract prepared from rice bran to the doughs minimized the phytate content during fermentation by 62.7, 65.7 and 77.2% in the presence 10, 20 and 30 ml of rice bran phytase extract, respectively. It can be concluded that, the use of wheat germ phytase extract is better to reduce the phytate content in diabetic bread compared with germinated wheat and rice bran phytase extracts.","PeriodicalId":139703,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sohag Agriscience (JSAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121222548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 115 amplified bands were scored out of them 98 were polymorphic. The percentage of polymorphism (%P) ranged from 42.86% to 100.00%. The cluster analysis revealed similarity coefficient values ranged from 0.31 (Gabali and California) to 0.66 (Bouscat and New Zealand). A cluster analysis realized using percentage of similarity method for phenotypic data, revealed similarity coefficient values ranged from 77.74 (California and Gabali) to 96.37 (Bouscat and V Line). Results of single marker analysis showed seven, five and four RAPD markers related to body weight, body tall and mortality rate (MR) traits, respectively. The marker OPA-13 200bp was significantly associated with litter's weight at weaning (LWW) (r=0.010, p =0.041). The associated markers each explained a maximum regression of 69.00 (LWW) to 93.00% (MR) of the total available variation for individual associated traits. The phenotypic data showed that New Zealand rabbits had the highest body weight and the body tall compared with the other pure breeds. The highest pre-weaning mortality rate was for Bouscat rabbits compared to other pure breeds. In the same direction, the highest LWW was for California rabbits.","PeriodicalId":139703,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sohag Agriscience (JSAS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127453949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
