Due to the low leaching rate of direct acid leaching, the effect of the roasting process on the leaching rate of scandium from the raw ore was investigated. By comparing the operation of the two leaching processes, oxidised roasting-hydrochloric acid leaching and alkali roasting-hydrochloric acid leaching, we obtain the optimal technical conditions for both leaching processes. At the same time, the mechanism of alkali roasting was investigated and the conclusions obtained are of some reference for the extraction of scandium from low-grade rare earth ores.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"36 1","pages":"36 - 44"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42188379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three different experimental investigations are done using rheometer, namely, continuous cooling test, isothermal test and shear jump test, to understand the rheological behaviour of ADC12 Al alloy. Continuous cooling tests reveal increase in slurry viscosity with decrease in temperature at a specific shear rate. The isothermal test results show decreasing viscosity with increase in rate of shear and confirm that semi-solid slurry experiences shear-thinning phenomena. Shear jump experiments (SJEs) show that the viscosity of the semi-solid slurry is less sensitive at higher shear rate, which is desirable. The steady state and iso-structural stress values (obtained from SJEs) at low shear rate region showcase an upward movement of solid content, i.e. with a proportionally downward slurry temperature.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"36 1","pages":"18 - 26"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44417035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet this process is characterised by generating a great amount of heat that needs to be controlled. The minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) system emerged as an alternative to the flood cooling system. Nevertheless, the employment of the former in austempered ductile iron (ADI) surface grinding is still an unexplored topic. This research seeks to experimentally study the applicability of MQL and the influence of the wheel speed and workspeed, in the surface topography of ADI samples subjected to different conditions of surface grinding. ADI surface topography was acquired, then the roughness parameters and surface hardness alterations were determined. The results show that the application of MQL in ADI surface grinding is possible. The surface roughness is similar to that of the flood cooling system and the surface hardness alterations are small.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"36 1","pages":"27 - 35"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43222609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results indicated that the equiaxed crystal ratio decreases with the increase of superheating degree and the cooling intensity. When the superheating degree increases from 15 to 25°C, the equiaxed crystal ratio drops sharply. While the equiaxed crystal ratio decreases slightly with an increasing superheating degree from 25°C to 55°C. It is further revealed that the superheating degree has a greater effect on the equiaxed crystal ratio compared with the influence of cooling intensity. Quantitative analysed the relationship among the equiaxed crystal ratio, the superheating degree and cooling intensity is in line with the Extreme 2D model. The accuracy of the model performance can reach 97.6% when predicting the equiaxed crystal ratio of CSP-CP 780 during CSP process.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"36 1","pages":"9 - 17"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45512627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A blister defect, aligned with the rolling direction, was observed on the surface of the AA6xxx Al rolled sheets. It was indicated that the porosities and small microstructural inhomogeneities inside the cast ingots, identified by ultrasonic tests and metallography analysis, were not the origin of these surface defects. Pilot scale rolling trials indicated that the blister defects were correlated with the longitudinal internal casting cracks. The short side cracks in the cast ingots, covered by a thin Al oxide layer, were not healed and remained partially open after the rolling process. The unhealed cracks served as the nucleation sites for H2 precipitation during the later stages of the thermomechanical process, which were subsequently resulted from surface blisters on the AA6xxx Al rolled sheets.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"35 1","pages":"169 - 180"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2022-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45381603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is primarily due to the high reactivity of titanium alloys resulting in their interaction with refractory materials. This reduces the quality of the castings due to the formation of various defects. The interaction of VT1-0 grade titanium in the liquid state with CaO, ZrO2 and CaZrO3 were studied. The processes occurring at the contact boundary between these substances and a change in the structure and microhardness of titanium castings near this boundary were described herein. The data obtained showed the disadvantages of molding materials based on CaO and CaZrO3. The features revealed for the interaction of a titanium melt with CaZrO3, where a highly porous CaTiO3 layer has been formed in the reaction zone,made it possible to recommend this compound as a promising material to cast molds in order to produce castings from titanium alloys.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"35 1","pages":"152 - 160"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2022-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43264479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental results revealed that when the cooling rate rose from 2 K/s to 10 K/s, the area fraction of the eutectic constituent and the lattice parameter of α-Al decelerated, but the relative solid solubility of α-Al increased. When the cooling rate continued to reach 100 K/s, the area fraction of the eutectic constituent and the α-Al lattice parameter elevated, lowering the α-Al relative solid solubility. According to the model of non-diffusion of solid phase and incomplete mixed solidification of a liquid phase, as for Al-6Cu alloy, relative solid solubility initially increases and then decreases with a boost in cooling rate. The model results are consistent with the experimental results.","PeriodicalId":13939,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Cast Metals Research","volume":"35 1","pages":"131 - 138"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2022-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46212697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
