Sialolithiasis can vary in different sizes, shapes and any measurements exceeding 15mm are considered as giant sialoliths. Swelling to the salivary glands is closely linked to sialolithiasis and is still considered as an infrequent diagnosis. The clinical case involves a 55-year-old male patient with evident swelling to the left submandibular area of the mouth. The correct diagnosis was identified and with the use of a computed tomography (CT Scan) confirmed the presence of a giant sialolith. It is imperative to examine the oral area to identify any tenderness or concerning enlargements and therefore a palpable intraoral was carried on the sialolith.","PeriodicalId":13838,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Dental Sciences","volume":"56 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140523626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: 3D printed model was constructed with two implants analogues replacing upper first premolar and first molar. Scan abutments, corresponding to CAD/CAM titanium bases, were screwed into implant analogues. The model was then scanned using Primescan AC intraoral scanner and scan file was imported into CAD software as STL file to finalize the design for fabrication of interim implant-supported fixed partial dentures. The CAD file of the designed interim IFPDs was sent to subtractive and additive manufacturing machines to fabricate 24 interim IFPDs, 12 per group. Interim IFPDs were then seated onto ti-bases and marginal gap was evaluated using stereomicroscope. Independent t-tests were performed to analyze data. Results: Regarding marginal gap, subtractively manufactured interim IFPDs showed statistically significant lower gap values than additively manufactured ones. Conclusion: The study exhibited a difference between the subtractively and additively manufactured interim IFPDs, showing that subtractively manufactured ones are of reliable marginal fit.","PeriodicalId":13838,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Dental Sciences","volume":"8 1-3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140522287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diabetics with poor control blood glucose levels are at risk of oral and systemic complications. Oral conditions such as xerostomia, gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth loss. Systemic consequences including coronary, peripheral, and vascular diseases. Aim of the work: This study was designed to identify the most common oral and systemic complications associated with controlled and uncontrolled type 2 DM (T2DM) among a sample of Libyan population. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in 426 adults of both genders who diagnosed with T2DM. This study sample included controlled (HbA1c 7%) and uncontrolled (HbA1c > 7%). Statistical analysis: The acquired data was tabulated and forwarded for statistical analysis. The data was described using cross tabulation tables, bar and pie charts. To determine the P value, the Chi-square test was used to investigate the significant presence of oral and systemic complications associated with T2DM. Result: A total of 426 patients diagnosed with T2DM were considered for this study showed (52.1%) were males and (47.9%) were females. The ages varied between 23 and 95 years old. According to the HbA1c values, 331 (77.7%) were non-controlled diabetic patients (NCDPs) and 95 (22.3%) were controlled diabetic patients (CDPs). Amongst 426 (DPs) 422 patients were diagnosed with oral complications. A total of 187 patients were diagnosed with systemic complications. Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between T2DM with oral and systemic complications. The oral complications in DPs indicated uncontrolled glycemic status.","PeriodicalId":13838,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Dental Sciences","volume":"89 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140515686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
