The world has long ignored warnings that antibiotics and other medicines are losing their effectiveness after decades of overuse and misuse in human medicine, animal health and agriculture. Common illnesses like pneumonia, postoperative infections, diarrhoeal and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as the world’s largest infectious disease killers – tuberculosis (TB), HIV and malaria – are increasingly becoming untreatable because of the emergence and spread of drug resistance. Worsening antimicrobial resistance could have serious public health, economic and social implications. The threat of antimicrobial resistance is also becoming a key consideration for programmes addressing maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, foodborne diseases, water and sanitation, and infection prevention and control. Although the 21st century is being shaped by technology and innovation, humans could soon find themselves in an era where simple infections once again kill millions every year. The past three years have seen unprecedented global political momentum to address antimicrobial resistance: in 2015, governments adopted a global action plan at the World Health Assembly and in 2016 passed a political declaration at the United Nations General Assembly. Antimicrobial resistance has made it onto the agendas of the G7 and G20 groups and is a core component of the Global Health Security Agenda. WHO is working closely with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Organization for Animal Health in leading global efforts against antimicrobial resistance and ensuring that the necessary momentum is consolidated and sustained. These efforts are guided by an ad-hoc interagency coordination group established in 2017. A global development and stewardship framework to combat antimicrobial resistance is being drafted to support the development of new antimicrobial medicines, diagnostics, vaccines and other tools. One of the gravest global concerns about antimicrobial resistance currently is that antibiotic resistance has emerged in so many pathogens, including TB. In 2016, at the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on antimicrobial resistance, Heads of State directed an unprecedented level of attention to curbing the spread of infections that are resistant to antimicrobial medicines. They reaffirmed their commitment to stopping the misuse of antimicrobial medicines in human health, animal health and agriculture, and recognized the need for stronger systems to monitor drug-resistant infections and the amounts of antimicrobials used in humans and animals. In the wake of the increasing global awareness of the need for new antibiotics, Member States highlighted market failures, and called for new incentives for investment in research and development of new, effective and affordable medicines, rapid diagnostic tests, and other important ","PeriodicalId":137514,"journal":{"name":"Ozone Therapy","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122914624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is evidence that oxidative stress is increased in fibromyalgia, although it is not known whether this increase is involved as a causative factor in the development of the disease, or whether it is secondary to the patients’ unfit condition. Ozone therapy is thought to act by exerting a mild, transient, and controlled oxidative stress that promotes an up regulation of the antioxidant system and a modulation of the immune system. The objective of the present study was to get a preliminary evaluation of the potential effectiveness of ozone therapy in the management of fibromyalgia. At our knowledge, this is the largest study of patients with fibromyalgia treated with ozone therapy reported in the literature and it demonstrates that the ozone therapy is an effective treatment for fibromyalgia patients without significant side effects.","PeriodicalId":137514,"journal":{"name":"Ozone Therapy","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121386918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the MEDE Clinic of Sacile, Italy, from February 2016 to December 2017, we have treated 65 patients, with auto hemo transfusion, according to the Scientific Society of Oxygen Ozone Therapy (SIOOT) protocols, twice a week for one month and twice a month as maintenance therapy. In conclusion, at our knowledge this is the largest study of patients with chronic fatigue syndrome treated with ozone therapy. Oxygen ozone therapy is an effective therapy in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. However, more patients are needed and in particular a longer follow up is a necessary. In the meantime, ozone therapy seems a treatment that, also because without any side effect, is possible to be proposed to patients with chronic fatigue syndrome that are not obtaining sufficient results from available therapy.","PeriodicalId":137514,"journal":{"name":"Ozone Therapy","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124425305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ozonated vegetable oils are generally preferred in ozone therapy as they are easy to apply and obtain. In this study, the density, viscosity, peroxide and iodine values of hazelnut oil obtained by being treated with ozone in different periods at a flow rate of 7-8 were determined and compared with its commercial form, i.e. refined hazelnut oil. In order to determine whether ozonated hazelnut oil can be safely used, its cytotoxic effect potential was assessed by performing 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium assay on three different cell lines. For this purpose, the viability at five different concentrations of each sample was calculated after 48 and 72 hours of incubation in the H1299 lung cancer, human umbilical cord vein endothelial cells and A549 cell line. As a result, it was found that hazelnut oil applied to three different cell lines and in five different concentrations (100/50/25/12.5/6.25μg/mL) did not have any cytotoxic effects. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the samples did not have a toxic effect due to treatment with ozone in comparison to refined ozonated hazelnut oil. Therefore, this study has shown that ozonated hazelnut oil can be used as an alternative to refined hazelnut oil without exerting any toxic effects due to treatment with ozone. In light of this information, it was concluded that hazelnut oil can be safely used after treatment with ozone without having any cytotoxic effects and that it can be produced as a functional oil providing both the pharmacological and cosmetic effects of ozone.","PeriodicalId":137514,"journal":{"name":"Ozone Therapy","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117081258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sustainable development bases its strategies not simply on the concept of growth, but rather on that of optimisation, around three main principles: ecosystem integrity, economic efficiency and social equity. The purpose of this paper, after an introduction about the concept of sustainability in general and as a strategy for the enterprises, is to discuss the potential of the use of ozone in different field, as a source of sustainable development, according to two of those principles, i.e. economic and environmental. In the first part, the concept of sustainability will be investigated in deep, with a managerial point of view, while the second part of the work will briefly analyse the current state of the arts of the uses of ozone, with also some practical examples. Finally, the discussion will take care of the reasons why the use of ozone, in several fields, could be considered as a driver for sustainability.","PeriodicalId":137514,"journal":{"name":"Ozone Therapy","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124937582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
